While it is unethical to hide crucial information about an issue that concerns the health of millions of people, i believe that, the government had no other choice. Any other decision might have led to mass panic, riots, anarchy and a situation similar to a 1945 Japan. Let's face it, people. The government had no plan or any means for the evacuation of 40 million people. This is something almost impossible to do in a country which is so densely populated like Japan.

Was it ethical? No. Was it the right thing to do? Maybe yes. Was there any other choice? Definitely not.

I have some more for you:

    1) Sleeping much earlier every night than in my home country and waking up much earlier as well. 2) Eating fish, rice and soup as breakfast instead of drinking milk and eating a toast. 3) Talking in a lower voice and paying attention not to cause any inconvenience to people around me. 4) Making noises such as "waaa~, sugoi", and "wooo" when people think they say or show something fascinating to me, while honestly, i couldn't care less... 5) Actually sleeping on trains. 6) Walking really fast even when i don't have anything to do. 7) Learned to appreciate food and not take it as given. 8) Wait in looong lines just to eat a ball of ice cream from a famous shop. 9) Bowing the head. 10) Drinking tea and much much more...

The question is: can somebody be fully prepared for such a disaster 24h per day, 7 days per week? I think the answer is no. Personally, i am really scared of such an earthquake as we all know what happened to Kobe in 1995. Fortunately, i think that Tokyo is much more prepared than Kobe was 17 years ago regarding the emergency system, the earthquake resistance of the average building, the access to information in case of such a catastrophe, etc. However, nobody can accurately predict the full scale of the damages in the infrastructure and the human losses. As it already stated, the only thing we can do is being prepared at least to the minimum level (emergency kit, keep some basic supplies at home, etc). Other than that, the only thing we can do is...enjoy life and realize that nothing is permanent in this world.

    It's me

Alright, there are similar cases worldwide, but i have not seen anywhere in the world the same overexploitation of this "young and innocent" trend that is going on in the Japanese market. It is just too much over here. Personally, i am against censorship of any kind and i believe in the free market, but it is disturbing - to say the least.

They might not be 15 years old, but you must admit that the way they dress, behave and talk is being promoted as in the typical high-school girl fashion. I know it's all marketing and stuff, but when you see grown up men being obsessed with this pattern, it's not difficult to understand why we often hear about lunatics and creeps in news.

Yes, i don't mind at all when i see a 10 years old girl singing their songs, but i freak out when i notice 40 years old guys do the same thing.

Indeed, Eurozone and EU are two totally different things not to be confused. Europe tried its best to follow a vision similar to the USA but apparently it forgot that each nation state has its own political, social and economic status quo. I hope that Euro won't collapse though. It will be catastrophic if it does...

Turkey tries very hard to cover the ugly face of its country. It would have been much better if it tried to actually protect human rights rather than try to cover anything that it reveals the abuse of human rights.

If America wants Japan to stop buying Iranian oil that is fine. However they are going to have and help find another source of oil. Japan is in a crisis, the tsunami and earthquake are still being felt. Without enough oil the economy will fail faster. So what is America going to do to help?

    My thoughts exactly.

I don't know what's more disgusting: what the soldiers did to these DEAD Taliban soldiers or the fact that some of the readers here defend this act of barbarism. No matter what, a dead person deserves some respect. Yes, they are fanatics and they might deserve to die but NOBODY has the right to treat a dead person like that.

The poorest a country is, the most corrupted it is, the most difficult it gets to reconstruct after a disaster of that scale. Fortunately for us, Japan is a completely different case. It is very unfortunate though that the Haitian people have to suffer once again despite the huge amount of money that was donated by millions of people.

One of the best scenes ever. I love both Mt. Fuji and Tokyo Tower. Undeniably, two unique symbols of Japan.

It was a really strong one. We shaked a lot here in Chiba but Japan has survived through much stronger ones.

Elbuda, i would suggest you to read few articles about the Armenian genocide. We are talking about more than 1,000,000 Armenian victims. It might not be a big deal for someone from N. America, but for the Armenian people this is very serious.

I don't understand why Turkey does not recognize it. To make a comparison, it would be similar to a modern Germany not recognizing the Holocaust. I guess that would be a big deal, right?

Armenian genocide is a historical fact. It is not debatable at all. The Ottomans did many ugly things during the first 2 decades of the 20th century. Modern Turkey has done many steps ahead and therefore it won't harm it's image if it finally recognizes the Armenian genocide.
