    This is Japanese-style sensationalist journalism.

We've all left stuff somewhere, and then had that sinking feeling seconds later as we realise what we've done. This doesn't make her an airhead, just human.

One can definitely understand the father's feelings, but stabbing the guy and ending up in jail himself means he will be no help at all to his daughter for the rest of her teenage years.

If the car then runs over the person who was hit (imagine they were hit front on), they could easily be caught on the engine or another part of the car and then dragged along. You don't necessarily bounce off if hit by a car, you could go up on the hood and then fall under the car- lots of different scenarios.

You don't have to wait for donuts anymore as there are now lots of shops in Tokyo. There's one in Yurakucho; I waited there for about 3 minutes the other day before being served. The 2-hour-long queues in Shinjuku were the case about 2 years ago, not any more. If you go on a fine weekend you might have to wait 15 minutes or so, but not at other times.

it's actually the pants that are the "Shakitto" part, not the bra. The article said "support wearers around the pelvis", which a bra obviously doesn't do.

I have known a number of people who committed suicide, and in each case it came as a complete shock to their families. Some people are very, very good at hiding their mental state, and also their preparations to commit suicide, right up until the last minute. I have started thinking that this is an incredibly selfish way to commit suicide, as it seems that people who use it take family members and even people in neighboring apartments down with them far too often. Of course the father is going to try to save his son, probably with fatal consequences. And the person who said that most people in Japan are up and commuting by 5am? No, they aren't. I have to leave home at 6 one day a week, and the streets and stations in Tokyo are very quiet at that time. Totally inaccurate comment.

If they are promoting vertical stripes, then why are they all wearing horizontal stripes?

There aren’t many things that make women happy,

Speak for yourself, Ms. Kurahana. Just because one apparently obsessive introvert says something ridiculous is no reason to think it's actually true.

How many children die in this manner each year?

While of course even one is too many, according to a post above yours, 10 since 2004, so it's not an epidemic- just a very few brainless parents.

I agree. Even if this woman was doing something way more anti-social than feeding cats, that is not the issue here. What gave this old geezer the idea that the best way to solve this problem was to start stabbing her with a knife? The mind just boggles at the actions of some people. Why do so many people think violence is the way to solve their problems? If the old guy was annoyed by someone feeding cats, he is not going to enjoy a prison environment- far more annoying things going on there, for sure.

Oh if only these gals knew how much hard work goes into making international relationships survive..is the author actually married to a foreigner, does anyone know?

Yes, Saori Oguri really is married to Tony Laszlo in real life, and those are their real names. The manga is basically semi-autobiographical.

Mai Inoue is a bit young to play Saori in my opinion, makes Tony look like a cradle snatcher. I'd like to see the movie but hope that Oguri and Laszlo have enough control to keep annoying stereotypical stuff out of the script. If it is true to the manga it should be good.

What tipping system? In Japan and in the country I come from there is no obligation to tip in restaurants or taxis.

Good at what they do? They almost always have to be given directions, even to fairly nearby locations, and they are some of the most aggressive drivers here. The times I have nearly been hit by a car in Japan have all but one been near misses with taxis- one almost backed over me as I walked behind his car. Who doesn't look behind them while backing?

first of all, it's the guy's home. He can get drunk there if he wants to.

That's true, but his wife called the police because he started to get violent, which is quite a different thing from just getting drunk. Are you saying the police shouldn't have responded?

He's riding the mama chari with the seat low because it's funny, it's part of his gimmick- good on him for having a sense of humour. Would it be better if he was on a mountain bike?
