I've had a free one-way flight NZ-Japan, a free business class return flight Japan-HK, and another free business class flight return Japan-Beijing all from air points, so I'm not complaining.

rogerbentham, they are the names of the chess pieces- silver general. gold general etc. If you want to know more, I'm sure a Google would turn up plenty of info in English.

GW, all mainstream models are skin and bone. With today's industry standards, they wouldn't be models if they weren't.

The word "tweasers" in the article should be spelled "tweezers". Actually I disagree with the use of "tweezers" in any case- tweezers are small. Tongs is the appropriate word here. Armchair proofreader out.

"Seiyu, as Wal-Mart is called here?" Are Seiyu and Wal-Mart owned by the same people? If not, I don't think Seiyu is really in any way comparable to Wal-Mart- there is nothing like the scale or spread at all.

I don't care what the lady said or how she said it, punching someone old enough to be your mother on the jaw hard enough to break it because she asked you to stop playing games on a cellphone is borderline psychotic behaviour. To those of you who even begin to think it's a reasonable response, you scare me. I hope there aren't too many of you out there. What would you think if it was your own mother that was hit? I suppose you would go out looking for the guy...to punch him. No wonder society is so messed up when there are people who think that hitting someone will solve their problems.

Anybody who thinks it's ok to talk on the phone in a crowded train (as mentioned above), has obviously never been on the Saikyo line at rush hour because that would be ludicrous. Good luck if you can even move your hand to get the phone to your own ear, and your conversation would be directed right into the ears of someone else as your mouth is only centimetres away from other people's heads on a train that packed. A number of times on the Saikyo line I have thought that I was not far off cracking a rib.
Imagine someone jiggling their elbow while playing a game in your ribs, arm or back for 10 minutes or more and you can understand why this lady was annoyed. I also agree that 50 is not old- how old are some of you people, 10? 50 year olds are usually still strong, active adults, not stooped-over elderly people with canes.

Scary- I live on the Chuo Line, and on Mondays I work near Tokyo station so I was there not long before that incident. I'm with Disillusioned- for a few years now I have made sure to stand well back from the yellow line even and try to keep an eye on the people around me- I hate to be first in the line for a train, even if it means I have to stand. I know this kind of incident is rare so it seems paranoid, but all it takes is one crazy person, and the Chuo line seems to have a lot of them...

What a ridiculous thing for the guy to claim. As the priests said, a devout Buddhist would not steal, much less from a temple. He must think other people are complete idiots.

That wouldn't be an unusual amount for someone to carry around in Japan though.

My 38-year old Japanese boyfriend has twice in the last 3 years spent 3 months in India and Nepal and had his explanation that he was travelling and sightseeing (true) taken at face value. One time he had his luggage opened and quickly searched, but that was it, so it's not a given that all older Japanese guys taking long trips to India are seen as drug smugglers. Lots of my Japanese friends travel in India several times a year even (including my 51 year old yoga teacher- Japanese guy) and haven't reported being x-rayed for drugs on their way back in. Perhaps this guy looked particularly sloppy or did something suspicious.
There are more Japanese backpackers on long trips out there than you might think, umm, Scrote- lots of people go on working holidays, for a start.

She looks quite different to how she used to- I didn't even recognise her from the photograph. She has obviously Botoxed and siliconed her face beyond recognition.

On other websites there have been a number of posts about this kind of thing recently. Not an early April Fool's Day joke at all, it really happens, and quite often. Apparently the police say there's nothing they can do.

I don't see that that would necessarily save the country money anyway- sure smokers tend to die earlier, but all the extra medical treatment they need while doing it must cost money, and the taxes on cigarettes aren't high here.
All those old men I see who obviously smoked at least a pack a day for decades and are now towing around oxygen tanks with them are obviously costing the taxpayer more money than a healthy person of the same age.

Let's forget this is for India and imagine it is back in the States, Australia or the UK- does anyone think for a second that this T-shirt would get past the idea stage? I highly doubt it. And as for this comment: "I know some women who completely bare their breasts for newborn babies! Selfish lasses have no concern for how much they are warping children with that!", there is a big difference between this photo and a picture of a breastfeeding mother for example- all pictures of breasts are not created with the same intent, and this pic has nothing to do with breastfeeding. Do you think that pictures of topless models should be handed out to kids at schools? I see nothing offensive about breasts per se either- I have a pair myself, but there is a question of appropriateness. This T-shirt is not.

How odd to have a picture of a semi-nude celebrity above the caption "school for all children". Did no-one anywhere along the line before that T-shirt was actually made think that might be the teeniest bit inappropriate? Truly amazing.

I know people who can do that, and as you would imagine, it's not possible to do it on large waves. That's what they do to have fun if the waves are small. Smithin Japan, I take it you do headstands on your board even during typhoons?
