It's an easy shift not to want to kill whales, just need to be open minded enough to listen to science and common sense. Whales are not fish, cetaceans are not food.

Sea Shepherds should start arming themselves. They tried to negotiate and tried non violent methods ... The answer is 'NO!' You cannot kill whales in international waters.

Terrorists throw harpoons into animals and kill them for no other reason than stubborn selfishness, and terrorist supporters seek to justify those murders to the world: while hero's try to stop them. ☠

You thinking the SSCS rammed the Nishin Maru by somehow going backwards? It's more likely the whale killers and their supporters are too blind to see reality. Much like with the AG crime.

Here's the Nisshin Maru ramming the Bob Barker and the Sun Laurel: poetic justice ... Can't wait to hear from; Korea about being rammed by the 'Death Star' in Antarctica. Australia for the heavy fuel below the 60 and the International courts who will deal with the Japanese captains ... "road rage at sea" ... definitely think the he snapped this time!
One must think this marks the end of Japanese Whaling though they have fought like madmen to continue to this point. Surely the public will have to tire of the yen/tax vacuum, not to mention the intentional embarrassment.

@JaneM I don't know if 'cold-blooded-killers' is the correct term: I think only man is capable of that distinction. They do hunt in an often very creative and dramatic way which also shows amazing intelligence and adaptability. Orca's are dolphins but all dolphins and whales are cetaceans.
If you dare to be Amazed watch, "The Intelligence of Dolphins" Shared to me by awesome little Japanese Samurai for animals, Missie! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH68iL5SL3g&feature=share&list=PLZlUxdfaJHpFVX_qJTEwCKLcCZNJpQhzQ

IT's a loophole used to continue commercial whaling. It was an amendment to allow for actual scientific research not to kill thousands of whales, certainly not to kill and endangered or threatened species. Modern science has no no need for lethal research and is rejected by the scientific community including those commissioned by the IWC, who stated that lethal research had no value.
Earlier this year in attempt to justify using Tsunami Relief Funds The head of the department of fisheries admitted Japanese Whaling was commercial and kept sever hundred people employed. The only ones left beating the research drums are in forums.
If you have time watch the movie ,"The Whale" about the Orca who befriended a community here in British Columbia. Please educate yourself then decide if Killing cetaceans is a good or even justifiable position. This is not a racial or cultural thing (I mean Seriously, who doesn't love Japanese women?)
Here's a video of a whale expressing elation and gratitude to divers who freed her from fishing nets. http://youtu.be/tcXU7G6zhjU

To the Japanese public, the shills and trolls for the whaling industry turn whaling into a cultural or race issue because there is no logical defense to what they do.
Whale research has come a long way in the last 20 years but especially the last 5. ✩ Whales are not fish. Whales and Dolphins are cetaceans, mammals and the only other creature other than man that has 'spindle' cells which are thought to provide self awareness. Cetaceans have strong family ties and bonds that are life long. Cetaceans have complicated language including General and Local dialects which include individual names. ( After a whale/dolphin is killed it's family will go on calling out it's name and grieve the loss.
Cetaceans are the top of the most important food chain on the planet: Cetaceans fate is the seas fate ... and so ours.
Foolish pride and bureaucratic deception keeps your government Whaling and it is driving Japan further into isolation.

The good news is ... only 1 whale was killed in the Southern Ocean Sanctuary this year and all whaling vessels are headed North.
Millions of yen were once again wasted but hundreds of lives were not. The Japan gov can likely stop paying their shills now. ( who were a waste of money to begin with and couldn't win an argument with a stuttering monkey)

...So sensitive for those who would harpoon a whale?
Forget about science proving anything about sustainable whaling. Science has proven that whales have spindle cells which are for self awareness, given that and some other exceptional characteristics anyone with sense and any heart would stop killing them period.
Arguing for killing an animal unnecessarily (via a loophole?) best go have a talk with the person in the mirror!

Can't understand why the Japanese news keeps missing the best part: The whalers also accidentally rammed the Korean refueling vessel. The Koreans are very angry and everyone is headed north. If the Koreans keep going the season is done with 1 whale killed and Japanese Whaling is done with one MORE massive waste of public funds.

Science is showing us much about Cetaceans. The Japanese public needs and deserves to understand about these creatures. Their social skills have always amazed people but we find now that whales and Dolphins have spindle cells which were thought to be exclusively human and are believed to allow for self awareness.
This one scientific discovery should be enough to at least give us a reason to take pause. There is much to learn about Cetaceans they are not' "just another animal" . They are the animal at the top of the most important ecosystem on our planet and as that ecosystem goes ... so do we.

I guess he's not aware a couple of months ago the Min. of Fisheries said the whaling industry was indeed an industry as a way to justify using Tsunami Relief Funds. Lying gets so complicated who could blame him.
And they want an Olympics? Better get a fatter wallet out than the one that was keeping the whaling industry afloat! You can't thumb your nose at the international community then come around sniffing for favors.

Hopefully the 'East Asian nations' will decide to find ways to get needed aid to the Palestinian people, giving money to the PA is financing the occupation. Unfortunately my Canadian gov is without honor and all our money goes to the PA by way of (of course) Israel.

The great thing about this day and age is that we are able to do research without slaughtering an animal and leaving it's flesh to rot in a freezer because no one wants to buy it. This year when revealing the fisheries plan to auction the left over meat on-line they admitted that the venture was commercial as a way to justify taking so much of the Tsunami Relief Fund.

The only that would change in Japan left the IWC would be that it would save a lot of money in bribes. Japan goes against the recommendations and scientific research done by the international community and chooses to commercially whale under the guise of science? They set their own limits and chose the species, they will hunt once again in a designated sanctuary disregarding the rest of the world or even state of a species: such as the endangered Fin Whale of which the Japanese Gov hopes to kill 50 this year??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fin_whale There are strong calls to not only increase the boycott against Japan but to extend it to the Olympic bid, already individuals are writing the IOC (1 endangered whale is killed the game will end fast including the Olympic bid).
I Feel this is the perfect opportunity for Japan to back out of whaling gracefully while increasing their chances to get the Games by creating some, lacking, sense of global community. There is a deal to be made with conversationalist groups also that could easily create an industry of cetacean watching and research and transform Taiji into a thriving community once again.
