They started economic reform since 1978. Economically China is strong. Politically, they still have a long way to go. However there are some openess for media & public opinion during the Sichuan earthquake. People can critise the government with media but not bluntly. Local governments are very corrupted. Central government ignore the many injustices of poor & weak citizens. They pretended they look after the poor & disadvantaged.

I noticed that many empty seats during the olympic. Many people wish to buy the tickets. I think tickets were distributed to party officials and private sponsors. Actually they did not come and watch the game. What was a waste! Actually the game belong to foreigners & rich Chinese. Not the ordinary Chinese citizens. Not much fun for ordinary people.

There is no capital punishment in Australia. I wish it is necessary for reintroducing. Otherwise it is getting out of control.

Raj Kumar was right. Olympics is once in life time opportunities for athletes and business for marketing. It is not about the human rights and politics. It is for promotion of the brand image and market expansion. Multi national large co-operation has lobbied for Beijing Olympic.

It is a way of life for making the living. Whether I like someone or not I have to trade with him or her. Otherwise I have no customer.

India is very good in software. However their service fee is getting more expensive. For system integration, I can hire Vietnamese IT specialist as one third of Indian prof salary. Viet is geologically closer too. Japan has many IT support, website design services in Dalian. Just a door step from Japan. I think it is a bit late for his market expansion. May be bio technology or nano technology future prospect is better than IT.

You said "I dont think generals will allow their citizens to die otherwise how/whom they are going to rule?" Of course. normal legitmate government will not allow to die citizens mercilessly.

However these generals became government in 1988 with bloody masscare for killing the citizens. Back in 1988. there are no internet, mobile phones and GPS. The world did not see the real masscare.

However the world has witnessed the bloody crack down on the Buddhist monks in last year. Even unarmed Japanese Journalist was killed in cold blood by military police. You can view the dead bodies from CNN, BBC and other countless websites. Back in 2007, there was no cyclone.it was obvious that they did not die naturally. Besides that Myanmar citizens do not allow to carry the weapons like USA. i did not excergerrate in my comment.

Boglay, Laputta and some small towns of Irrawaddy delta become like that African poor nations. If you are really interested in Myanmar, you have to reserach before you comment.

Even in your home country China, there was 1989 bloody cracked down in Beijing. However China has changed a lot and getting better and modernized. Citizens are freer and more prosperous. Myanmar is still not! The government is so corrupeted, narrow minded and selfish.

How cruel, barbaric & uncivilized? Victims will die on the roads & nowhere to go. Children needed to sit on the road and beg from passing cars. Local donors are not allowed to feed them. Even they have to bride the police for their donation effort. These people are not real homeless or beggars. The government is making them becoming the real beggars. They are the refugee of the Cyclone. They will die slowly in the open space without the help.

    Conqueror of Pluto or Cyclone

The main reason for generals hate the Chocolate bar is most generals have obesity. I think they worry about getting diabetes.

Who care about causing the wick-effect. As far as bodies are completely cremated, no need to worry about the spread of decease and contamination. I may lack the creativity and knowledge for science. However I am not dumb about waterborne deceases and contamination. Stamping out the all dead bodies is one of the priority for relief operation. For dry land, easy to be buried. For wet and soft soil, cremation is preferred.

If the burning fire is strong enough, dead bodies will become ashes within a few seconds. The ashes will become fertile enough for next generation of the crops. Flooded land needed more fertilizer.

Myanmar news paper mentioned that “fresh vegetables that grow wild in the fields and on protein-rich fish from the rivers.” It is incorrect. After the Cyclone, Irrawaddy delta can not grow fresh vegetables for a few yrs. Flooded-Lands needed to be recovered and repaired. Even Rice has to be imported from the Vietnam. Protein-rich fish eat the dead human bodies from river. Eating the fish like eating the dead people. It is against the rules of all religions.

Even Myanmar Generals do not want to cremate the dead bodies from cyclone. Their excuse is fuel is so expensive for cremation. They said "Let's fish eat the dead bodies". I will never eat fish from Myanmar. I will eat the Chocolate bar. It is sweeter than fish.

"the regime opponents will NOT make another attempt at the regime change by people’s power revolution for the sake of their fellow Burmese cyclone victims, not due to position of their Western allies."

It was a funny comment. Let the fellow Burmese cyclone victims wet, starve, sick and die under the rain and salty winds. It has been three weeks since Cyclone disaster. Many of them have broken skins, infections and waterborne deceases. You have to accept the fact that about 3 quarters of victims still living in open and windy space. Not a luxury palace of Nayidaw capital which military junta are living. What was a extravagances?

People are starving. The government wasted so much money for unnecessary construction projects for their luxury life style. Nayidaw has many golf course for generals who does not know how to swing the club.

In my living memory, no international relief teams and aid worker involved in the politics and throwing the government out of office. They just focused on their duty of saving lives, food and medicine distribution and supplying the temporary shelter for homeless. Including US and French ships near Irrawaddy Delta. They are not interested in politics. They are on humanitarian mission not for invasion or narrow minded interests.

Sad thing about Myanmar government is too xenophobic, superstitious and paranoid about western countries. No transparency for their incompetency, corruption and mismanagement. No wonder this country is so backward and third world stage like Africa.

People are suffering. Generals are storing the high quality supplied goods and medicine in their warehouses. High energy biscuits from US were sent to Myanmar Army warehouse. Not for the victims. Some of the supply has ended up in the black markets. How cruel and inhumane?

Myamar or Burmese people has tried to rip off this disgraceful regime thousand of times before. It is just a dream for them for becoming the reality. Myanmar ethnic minorities has been fighting civil war since 1948. They are weaker and military is stronger. Innocence will die with starvation and medical negligence. Not because of the war with the government. They are too weak to fight.

Arm Forces are united behind this corrupt government. As far as Arm Forces does not split like Philippines, Myanmar people will be never released under the boots of the military junta. Sadly this country has been isolating and xenophobic since 1962. People are suffering. Especially rural area condition likes African poor nations. Starvation & malnutrition are everywhere.

The opening for foreign aids is just a show by military. The main reason is they want to get 11 billions donation for rebuilding the devastated region. World bank said this government still have huge outstanding debt from 1998. Donation money will go to Military Generals pockets instead of poor and suffering people. I do not trust their smiles.

This article has some negative feedback about rescue operation. In my understanding, no emergency relief service will be 100% perfect. Some will complain as bad service. Some will compliment. Some had died. Some will survive. We are not living in the perfect world.

For me, I like both Japanese and Chinese. They are efficient and fast.

It is pretty sad and bring back the old memory of Kobe earthquake in 1994. How many people dead at the time? Was the response of the emergency service fast enough? Disaster region will rise again like Kobe. It is a life cycle of destruction and creation.

I saw one local posted as 3 minutes earth quake like 30000 hours. If the earth quake take 7 mins, I can not imagine what will be like that?

Myanmar government has no experience or training in disaster relief efforts. Victims desperately need the expertise of Red Cross or other reputable organizations. Beside that Public servants are so corrupted in Myanmar. About 75% of supply will end up in Black market. Super rich Generals can not be trusted too. They do not care about human lives. They only care about their swiss bank accounts.

For delivery, Myanmar is using outdated boats and manpower for distribution. Victims urgently need medical, food, tents and sewage treatment materials with Supersonic jets, Helicopters and Hoover Crafts. Not the 19th century disaster relief system.

Myanmar Government alone can not handle the such a big disaster. Why not let other to help them? It is unwise for preventing international relief effort. Why not let US Marines, Japan Marines and European Air Force to come and help? They know how to handle the suffering of the victims.

Myanmar is second only in the most corrupted country in the world. Not only backward in technology but also narrow minded and xenophobic. Let's put the victim lives ahead of politics and pride.
