Any case, I applaud this lady for her work. Like the Japanese astronaut lady that was in the news a few months ago as well.

It appears this "Civil Aviation College" is the only one place in Japan where you can learn to fly? What a difference from the U.S.! There are aeronautical colleges all over and there are flight schools at almost any tended airport. And to the best of my knowledge, there are no height requirements even at the aeronautical colleges (which tailor the courses towards becoming a commecial pilot or ATP).

Yes and Japan is well known for its large wide open land with large amounts of private and executives airports.

    Nice photo.

I'd rather have them smiling and holding a camera, then having a grin and holding an AK47.

The article contradicts itself. It mentions "the two passengers in the taxi" then it goes on to say that it "reportedly let five passengers in". Who knows?

It doesn't contradict itself. Five people were in the taxi, two of them got injured.

Any case the word "spree" usually means something deliberately done, I haven't seen any other news to say it was or wasn't, nor does the article point to either.

Though five people in a regular Japanese taxi, they must of been squished inside.

When riding my bicycle I always make sure my light is on at night, no running red lights etc.

The only close time I almost got into trouble with the law was one night it was raining and I needed to see what my position was so I pulled out my phone GPS right as I was passing a traffic cop directing traffic, he yelled at me だめですよ! I put my phone away and continued along. Though it was my fault because I did know better.

I am someone who rides my bicycle often through Tokyo, mainly because I'm a cheap person, but I need the excersize. I've gone from Shinjuku to Akihabara and Ginza (criss crossing the Yamanote line) too many times to count now. Generally as the writer has noted, if you use common sense you are usually ok. The biggest pain has always been riding right around the major station areas like Shinjuku, where in the morning with the pedestrian traffic it is hard to blow through, I hit a guy coming out of a subway station once, he just ran infront of me out of nowhere, though he continued running on his way (that was the only accident I ever had). Another time my pedal fell off (lol) right in front of a crosswalk, because my mind was occupied about "wtf my pedal just fell off" I didn't notice it had just turned red, and I blew right threw with some cars beeping their horns at me. Any case, I generally try to be on the cautious side. Though those are just some incidents I remember through my usual daily non-occurrence bicycle rides through Tokyo.
I almost exclusively ride on the sidewalks. As for random police checks, I've never been selected for one, but I've been parked right next to, or pulled up to some poor saps (Japanese) folks who have been checked. Bicycle registration, and receipts are kept in my wallet.

International corporations in Europe, with barely an exception, use English as their in-house lingua franca. Even France and Germany, who show dedication to protecting and expanding their own cultures, accept English as a global standard in the business world. So it would only be natural that Japanese companies follow suit.

People are humans not machines. There is only so much President Obama can do. Being President is probably one of the hardest job you'll ever get in life, if Presidents didn't have downtime, they'll go crazy. Bush went on "vacation" a few times to his ranch or camp david. It is not like he was out of reach, if something happened, someone would be running to him with a report.

It'll get me to the airport 30 mins faster for more than double the current cost. No thanks.

The New Skyliner is priced at 2400yen. The JR Narita Express is priced at 3500yen.

Remember if you are coming via JR lines making the transfer at NIPPORI Station to the Keisei Line is a lot better.

For me the NEX was overpriced. The Skyliner has always been a good value for the money at 1920yen, the new skyliner is 2400yen. The NEX is 3500yen.

The keisei line will continue to run the "old" skyliner at 1920yen and of course limited express trains will still cost 1000yen. Keisei will still be more economical then JR trains.

The same month, about 1,500 “tetsu-tori” jammed into Tokyo Central Station to photograph the final run of the Model 500 series Nozomi Shinkansen limited express, requiring 200 security staff to be mobilized for crowd control. Several people were knocked down in the excitement that ensued when the train departed.

I was there at Tokyo Station and don't recall seeing anyone being knocked down or requiring medical assistantce.

While fatalities among such hobbyists have been rare, in May of this year, a 47-year-old enthusiast lost his footing on a hillside above a tunnel while attempting to photograph the Joetsu Line in Gunma Prefecture and died from injuries incurred by the fall.

Tragic ACCIDENT but it was just an accident, not like he was "pushed" off the cliff by another train fan.

But I understand the jist of the article. There's really a few groups of Train fans. Oldtimers like myself and newcomers who come in because of the media hype. Many rail magazines now print letters telling people to be courteous, however a lot of these new comers don't want to play by the rules, and give everyone else a bad name.
