Wendy's survived for 30 years before they pulled out, from my understanding it was a difference in opinion with the then franchisee, but now making a comeback with a new franchisee Mr. Higa. Wish em the best!

Wendy's is great, I prefer that fast food over McDonalds. I remember I had a Chinese classmate in Tokyo, he never heard of or been to a Wendy's, so I took him to one in Tokyo. A few weeks later I was walking by that same Wendy's and I saw him with a bunch of his friends eating there again too lol.

I was bummed they left two years ago, but glad to hear they are coming back.

Now all Japan needs is some Popeye's Chicken franchises, KFC stinks!!!

Not everything fell apart. If we were to look at the Earthquake itself, many buildings swayed but did not collapese and cause thousands to die. I think I'd rather be in an Earthquake while in Tokyo then say in Thahiti.

It's hard to think of any government anywhere that has handled any major disaster ever with 100% efficiency.

I WILL say this is more evidence that Japan needs to again put the no more than one kid on a bike with parent law into effect, and not rescind it because a bunch of young-mamas complain

So how exactly would having one child prevented this accident from happening? In fact, who's to say that this accident would of still not of happened if there was only one child on the bicycle, or for that matter, who's to say this accident would of not happened if there were no children on the bicycle?

China should really be sending it's ships to stop those illegal Chinese fisherman from entering Korean, Japanese, Filipino, and Vietnamese waters just to name a few. Growing China is causing a lot of fiction with all of these nations when it comes to China's claims.

Correction: first sections of the Ginza line opened in 1927.

Singapore Opened: 1987 , average daily ridership 2million.

Tokyo: Oldest sections (Ginza Line) first opened 1932 (first subway in Asia). Average daily ridership (all railway lines, over 12+million in just Tokyo by itself).

New sections and subway lines do have barriers, many of the older ones do not. Cost of retrofitting all of them are enormous. Imagine the disturbance and cost of retrofitting every single station just on the JR metropolitan area. Probably cost more then the GDP of some small countries.

Guns are so prevalent in in America and tied to history, that even if you somehow managed to outlaw all guns (never gonna happen) but lets say that one day for some freak reason, that all the politicians agreed to outlaw all guns. With the amount of guns (millions of them) that exist out there, there will still fall into the hands of criminals who want to do crime and want access to one.

When so many States(including Virginia) allow OC (open carry ) of firearms in public, this is not surprising at all.

Surprising in what way? Virginia has open carry laws, are you saying in that theory people are getting shot and killed every single day everywhere in the state of Virginia. But in places like New York City and Washington, DC where guns are essentially banned from open carry, No one gets shot and killed everyday. Right? A does not equal B here.

Anyone remember the moving "Coming to America", there was a scene where the King was arguing with his wife about tradition, and the King said "Who am I to change it?".... summed it up right there.

There is nothing in the circumstances that can justify this attack.

You are privy to some information that we don't have? You were in the house and know exactly everything that happened? Maybe it will turn out that the kid is actually the one that should be in jail and the guy was justified in his actions? We simply don't know other then what his friends claimed to have been doing and claimed to have seen.

Virginia has lax gun control and incredibly pro-gun people will use incidents such as this to push for even less restrictive laws. It just goes on and on.

And Virginia tends to be one of the safest states in the country. Compare the crime rates, especially gun related offenses in the State of Virginia, with say a very restrictive state like Maryland. Law a biding citizens are not the ones going out and shooting people, criminals are.

In this country people don't often openly criticise the Emperor. Even if it is not against any law, people seem afraid to do it.

But if someone did in Japan, they might be shamed or shunned by some people, but they won't be tossed in Jail for six years either.

How does this compare with burning the Stars and Stripes in the U.S.? Is that still against the law or has it been updated?

There is no law against flag burning in the united states. Like it or not, it is a constitutionally protected form of free speech in the united states, you can also burn copies of the constitution, declaration of independence etc if you wanted too. You can say "I hate bush" or "I hate Obama" or "Republicans/Democrats stink" and not have to worry about getting arrested. Though if you threaten to kill then that's another crime in itself.

As mentioned, its legal as long as you aren't in violation of fire laws/zones /doing arson etc.

We don't know the circumstances in the house. "kids playing dodgeball" could verywell be a cover story for "kids being hooligans" , and that particular kid just happened to enter the wrong house and messed with the wrong person.

Or , their story could very well be true, the the matter is, WE DON"T know all the facts. Sadly stories like this are rarely followed up by the media or JT.

It's funny, because lets say he did have his Japanese license with him and no IDP how on earth is some Alabama cop going to read kanji it or even confirm it? Might as well show a mickey mouse passport from disneyland. Also the law isn't very clear as reported here, it says Alabama license or license from another country, but doesn't say anything about a license issued by another state. Though it's probably a misquote of the actual law.

Remember the scene from the movie black rain where Michael Douglas transfers the prisoner to the fake cops at the airport, the fake cop gives him the "transfer papers" written entirely in Japanese, but it later turns out to be insurance application papers.

Actually it does mean something because things like that in the past would just merit a simple infraction, however he was detained, and the only reason he probably didn't go to jail was because there was a magistrate who happened to be in the area at the same time, now I don't know how AL law works, but he was able to be bonded on site and released.

Anyway all this doesn't matter anymore as an Alabama judge has thrown out the ticket and it's another black eye for Alabama. Maybe those companies should look into moving their businesses into the neighboring state.
