So the next step now should be to shift to uni-sex bathrooms, showers, barracks, etc.?

Yep, and allowing women to vote and allowing colored people to share the same facilities as whites....

Jeeze now Yokohama has TWO ramen museums? The ShinYokohama Ramen museum used to have a build it yourself cup of noodle stand as well. I found the ShinYokohama Ramen museum to be a front for other restaurants. Pay to get in, then pay to eat ramen. Found better stuff in Yokohama itself.

How does this system work in countries where passport controls do not have an option for the "X" to appear on the computer screens or printed documents. A M or F still needs to be inputted somehow.

Root Beer (however you can find them at specialty stores like Don Quiote and foreign specialty places). Mexican food (harder to find in Japan, and not as good in my opinion, of course Japan isn't full of Mexicans like back in the states either).

There are no court-martials in the Japan Self Defense forces, since all SDF members are civilian civil servants, all crimes committed by SDF members are handled by the jurisdiction they are charged in.

Sounds like an excellent weakness in security to exploit to me.

How? It's mainly reference charts and maps that are pubically available to any one out there who wants a copy. Want a NYC Area terminal chart? Go to the FAA website and download one for free.

Don't think it's as simple as "hey South Korea, we got some North Korean defectors, we're sending them on a plane strait over you deal with it".

    Diplomacy!

I personally am shocked that the FAA said, "sure go ahead, use the iPad." The FAA generally doesn't allow any bit of mission-critical hardware into the cockpit without forcing it through a lot of expensive testing (and often a "certified" version).

I assume because the part is not actually being used on the airplane (eg it's not part of the aircraft). It's an item that is being used as a reference item where pilots can pull up manuals, charts etc. It's not a critical piece of hardware, it's not even connected or even flying the airplane. The ipad is not replacing any of the airplanes actual navigation equipment etc.

The article can be a little confusing for those who are not used to aircraft operations.

The pilots will not be using the ipad to fly the aircraft or even using them for navigating the actual aircraft.

They are being issued to pilots to replace the bulky flightbags that contain aeronautical charts, manuals etc that pilots typically carry. Essentially it's reducing the load they have to carry and will be used for reference only. Even as a non pilot myself, I used to go into the cockpit with a notebook full of manuals, charts (maps) etc, this certainly reduces what the pilots actually need to carry on with them. Not about what's actually controlling the aircraft.

All aircraft navigation(actual controls of the aircraft) etc will continued to be done by the approved onboard aircraft avionics.

The women apparently managed to send an e-mail to family members pleading for help, and police found the three of them at a nearby restaurant. The man told police at the time that they were all just having a chat.

What? Things don't add up here. They were confined to his apartment, then they all got caught up at a local restaurant? huh?

Why did it take the cops 2 hours to get there.

Nothing says it took the cops 2 hours to get there. The events transpired according to the times in 1hr 40minutes There could be a variety of factors. First the McDonalds staff/manager might of tried to deal with the situation before involving the police (more paperwork to file) , finally they couldn't convince the guy so the police were called in (the time-line is not known here). The police arrive and first try to talk the guy out of the situation (unlike police in other countries who would probably go strait in with guns blazing or tear gas). But again the time line is not know here, but it's conceivable that this event could happen in a span of 1hr 40minutes. Not everything is like TV shows where things are resolved in a few minutes and cut to commercial.

Having spent some time up front as an observer, I too say there is something wrong with the article or the reporting. Generally you don't just accidentally press the wrong switch and cause the plane to dive as described. There's more to the story then we are reading, the article seems like a more dumbed down version of the events.
