I'd rather see a smart Muslim in the White House than a dumb Christian.

I wonder if it includes a name that appears in Tom Dillon's hilarious book on foreigners' bloopers in Japanese, which introduced a missionary named the Reverend Gary Benke (pron. geri benki). LOL!

Palestinians built East Jerusalem so this got to be their capital, they already lost half of their capital so this is reasonable for both

Er, I think the Caanites built Jerusalem. They were evicted by the ancient Hebrews who were replaced by a dozen or so other subsequent conquerers (Babylonians, Romans Crusaders, etc.), all of whom destroyed and rebuilt the city in turns.

Any religious facilities situated in proximity to Ground Zero should be non-denominational or even better, have none at all.

If there's one thing for certain, it's that Manhattan, home of monuments to egotism and greed like the Trump Tower, is a place where money rules. In a way, there's something deliciously ironic about how a Muslim community centre will be in place and running before any new buildings are completed at ground zero.

One has to ask how a traveler on an out of date Israeli passport got into the US, and managed to get clearance to leave it too?

If he had a US green card, his passport definitely would have been valid at the time he applied for it.

Sez, you're confusing the Russians who invaded Afghanistan in the 70's with the coalition troops who liberated Afghanistan in 2001.

Sarge, you're confusing ideological indoctrination with reality. Afghanistan is inherently incapable of liberation in any form. They are determined to perpetuate their own suffering. It's only a question of whether that suffering will be imposed by outsiders or from within.

The price is ¥ 2,205. You can find it on Amazon Japan (amazon.co.jp) by going to 和書 (Japanese books, even though it's bilingual) and typing in Japan Atlas.

Seeing as how the Japanese vernacular media would nitpick Obama's visit to death ('he shouldn't have purchased the floral offering from a ¥100 shop'), and that the Republicans in the U.S. would immediately accuse him of being another Neville Chamberlain, it would be an exercise in masochism to go there.

Wasn't he the guy who told the judge during his trial, 'Your honour, I stole it fair and square!'?

Highways in the western U.S. are often beset by vicious side-winds and a light bus like the one that crashed would be vulnerable. Can't be ruled out yet as a cause.

Sorry, but how/where is there any evidence of that?

Prior to a trial in Japan, both prosecuting and defence attorneys must submit documents to the court outlining how they will proceed with their arguments. I don't think they can be accessed by the general public, but a court reporter at the kisha club can probably arrange to get a peek at them.

Flying brings out the worst in people and the added hassles post-9/11 made the situation nightmarish on the ground as well. It's a good thing the Civil Aeronautics Board makes it hard to carry pointed metal objects on board, or carnage would result.

Why did he not tell this to the POLICE?

Bizarro, he almost certainly did. I think he is referring to his the hordes of reporters and curiosity seekers who flooded the neighborhood in the wake of the crime, wishing to keep his name out of it.

Everything I hear these days is about how Vietnam has become a horribly corrupt place, and I suspect their motive in forming of business or military alliances with anyone is to bleed them dry with demands for baksheesh.

Japanese racism, which is well acknowledged by the U.N., is most certainly based on feelings of superiority.... all racism is based on ignorance. I have many friends who are Apache and they are offended by this.

This post has got to be a put on. There are probably fewer than 50,000 Apaches left in the world, spread out all over the US Southwest. Come one, who are you really?

His visit should not be used as ammunition by right-wingers against the Democrats in the mid-term elections, so if Obama visits one or both cities after the elections, it probably won't be a problem.

Sarge: "Those militants are going to hell." No, they're not.

Ahem! If they are in Afghanistan, I'd argue that they're already in hell.
