and we can finally finish off crazy Kim and his goons.

That's the same befuddled thinking that led Bush 43 to fabricate the WMD story and "finish off" Saddam. Which seems to have run afoul of the law of unintended consequences...

If I were American, I'd be moved to caution my compatriots against falling prey to demagogues who would like to distract them from the country's more serious problems by inciting a pogrom against hapless Mexican workers, without whose labour the US economy is likely to collapse.

Methinks we are being deceived. By you know who. Again.

Libertas, methinks your fascination with off-the-wall conspiracies makes inductive reasoning neigh impossible.

Looking down at my shinkansen ticket, I knew it was time to go but if I was lucky, there was just enough time for a piece of pie and some coffee.

Gosh, I hope you made it. To get to the nearest Shinkansen stations from central Yokohama you either have to get to Shinagawa via Keihin Kyuko or else get to Shin-Yokohama. Both would involve at least 30 minutes, providing you make the right connections.

Ultimately Mexicans won't want to enter the US any more, because at the rate America's standard of living is dropping, the two countries will be on parity in another 10 or 15 years.

I left the UK 10 years ago and there were 5 channels - come back and with digital there appears to be hundreds! Guess that will happen too in Japan.

ROTFLMFAO! The Ministry of Corruption, sorry, Communications will absolutely never give up its chokehold on licensing of terrestrial broadcast stations. That's what makes outlay for the damn things a waste of money -- there won't be any contents. Expect round-the-clock reruns of 'Toyama no Kin-san', 'Zenigata Heiji' and 'Mito Komon'.

You can check the weather, top news, or what's on tonight with one click.

So why do I need a digital TV? I can do all of that now, on an amazing entity called the Internet. With contents from any country and in any language I want -- sometimes even in Japanese.

Rancho Palos Verdes is a ritzy neighborhood. I didn't realise he was that well off.

The days of massive military assaults along 200-km fronts are gone. The NK military (and its saboteurs in the south) would run rampant for all of 48 hours before running out of everything. Not to mention that massed land forces these days don't fare well without air support. This leads me to conclude that Field Marshall Kim will respond to this "provocation" with some creative mischief and not commit the bulk of his forces.

I guess it's really all about whether or not 50,000 yen (and up) is worth the status of being able to show one off.

I think back to former PM Yasuhiro Nakasone, who was something of a nationalist blowhard who liked to mug for the photographers while strutting in traditional kimono. For that reason I can't bring myself to criticise Hatoyama, who is making neither a fashion statement nor a political statement but just being himself.

Since I discovered YouTube, I haven't even touched my old analog TV except to dust the top. Every day that goes by I miss watching TV even less. Expecially NHK, which is stuck with the same programmes it had in the 1970s -- and the same people performing on them them!

On a practical level, one possible future approach would be for nurses to study Japanese and earn credits toward graduation while still in nursing school in the Philippines.

One of the Japanese weeklies came up with a plausible explanation for the 'point blank' range from which the torpedo was supposedly launched: NK allegedly possesses in its arsenal of weapons a 'manned torpedo' that can be steered by a human pilot. The Japanese Imperial Navy operated similar torpedos, called Kaiten, in the Pacific War. They are the nautical equivalent of Kamikaze planes. How the NKs would recruit men to steer such weapons is another matter, however.

Why does there have to be a conspiracy? The two koreas have been in a state of war since June 1950?

Libertas, North Korea reportedly suffered fatalities when the Israeli air force bombed the nuclear reactor the NKs were building for the Syrians. It's ludicrous to imagine these two countries working in collusion.

In considering the possibility that it was not the North Koreans, I think we have to ask cui bono (who benefits). The only thing that comes to mind is that Kim Jong Il is ailing and in the process of positioning his heir. If the NK military is convinced the Kim dynasty won't be sustained beyond the next generation, they might pull the plug on Dear Leader prematurely. There are probably three, four, five or more factions manoeuvering for power, and who knows which of them would stoop to such intrigues. So four dozen young S. Korean seamen had to die so that Brutus and Cassius could launch their plots. If war does come, we may never really know why...

It is FOX TV that does the dumping, on the American public.
