The degree to which this success story is being loudly trumpeted to the media by law enforcement agencies suggests that they are soliciting a larger budget from the next session of the US Congress.

I read it when it first came out. Once was enough. I wonder how many members of the present generation can relate to WW2 SNAFUS.

America politics has a long tradition of radicals hijacking their party (look at William Jennings Bryan or Barry Goldwater) and galloping off with the nomination. If Palin plays her cards shrewdly she might even win the nomination. A lot of pundits are predicting a third-party challenge in 2012, and if that drains away enough independents and Democrats, Palin could very well wind up in the White House. No matter who runs in 2012, the US clearly needs to abolish its antiquated electoral vote system and elect its presidents directly.

It struck me that if it's really 3:00 a.m., then this is a terrible waste of energy. Who is out and about at such an ungodly hour, to justify leaving the lights on?

China is frustrated over the US support for Taiwan and uses North Korea as a counterweight. Appealing to China for cooperation is an exercise in futility.

What really bothers me is when these idiots hold up traffic while blithely messaging on their phones in the pedestrian crosswalk. Many's the time I felt the urge to jam the accelerator pedal to the floor and leave them crushed under the tyres of my Hummer.

There will definitely be more, and soon. These incidents tend to occur in batches. The tormented kids see the news coverage of a suicide brought on by bullying and come to the conclusion that it's the most effective way to turn against their own tormemtors -- the bullies, teachers, school, parents, etc.

Yes, and it would appear that citizens from about half of that number are hustling on the sidewalk between the Roppongi and Iigura intersections.

I am appalled and horrified by the people with agendas who use Wiki -- particularly in Japanese -- to disseminate lies and calumnies. It's no better than 2-channel as far as I'm concerned.

Unless similarly intrusive checks are conducted at ALL foreign airports from which planes fly to US destinations, terrorists will find a way to get on board and blow themselves up.

Unless the US government can put the same security in force at all foreign airports from which flights bound for the US (and it can't), then this whole thing is a ridiculous waste of time and money.
