The Popular Front for the Liberation of America and the American People's Popular Front are fighting it out with the People's Popular Liberation Front, while China looks on, shaking its head and chuckling.

Re China: a barking dog never bites. They can't even deal with their own territory, Taiwan.
Posted in: How bad do you think tensions between Japan and China are going to get over the disputed islands? Is Japan's detention of the Chinese fishing boat skipper the proverbial straw that breaks the camel's back?

I find it unbelievable that AP could generate a story like this and never mention the actual name of the place, Metzada, or alternatively, Masada.

As long as Sweden keeps producing cars that start up easily in cold weather and great mystery novels, it's got my support. I'll pass on the Akvavit, though.

I bet the person entrusted with editing Bush's manuscript is popping anti-depressants now. One can only engage in so much spin without incurring physical and mental vertigo.

There should be no taxes on food, rent paid by residential tenants and medical treatment (including prescription drugs). This has always been my biggest objection with the Japanese consumption tax. People below the poverty line and retirees on fixed income pensions deserve a break. In any case the wealthy can hire accountants to devise all kinds of tax strategies and milk the system for all that it's worth.

If you object to his coming, Sarge, you will have to find a way to kick the UN General Assembly out of New York City. PS: Jesse Helms tried for 30 years without success.

How smart do you want your smart phone to actually be? Do you want it to read your mind, even a little bit?
It would be great if I could teach my cell phone how to waste the servers of the Chinese spammers who have been making nuisances of themselves in here.

I voted newspaper because even if it's online it's still a newspaper. But I do subscribe to and purchase other print newspapers. Japanese 'wide shows' on afternoon TV are newsy, but I regard them as being entertainment more than news.

United happens to be the first part of the name of the country the company is based in. Like American and U.S. Air, they want be seen as waving the flag. (Continental, to some geographically challenged Americans, sounds like it's from Europe.) Of course the days when this sort of thing really mattered to travelers is long gone.

I thought with their newfound prosperity and more open society Chinese were getting smarter. But this shows they are as easily manipulated and dumbed down as ever. What the hell did demonstrating on the street outside the embassy every accomplish, except scaring off visits by Japanese tourist groups to the Great Wall?

Very few victims of suspicious deaths in Japan are given an autopsy. Pandas, it seems, warrant better treatment than humans.

The last time I flew Delta the person seated behind me never stopped poking me in the back as she incessantly punched the screen while playing the games. I have heard this complaint from other passengers. The only way to make sure it doesn't happen to you is to request a seat with your back to a bulkhead. Or not fly Delta any more, which was my solution.
