I went to the web site Mohammed.com and all I got was a blank screen.

However, it first has to be approved by the EU and South Korean parliaments and European carmakers are still hoping lawmakers will ensure safeguards for their industry.

The Europeans are naive if they think their products have a chance to sell in Korea. They should look what happened when Americans attempted direct sales of ice cream or distribute movies there -- xenophobia kicked in (violently I would add) and foreign executives weren't allowed to renew their business visas without paying huge bribes.

The US Congress, and especially the Senate, has long been an exclusive club of millionaire lawyers. It's hardly surprising that they feel motivated to get their hands dirty and tamper with their own cozy status quo. Perhaps the injection of a few passionate people to stir things up would remind them that Washington is not their exclusive preserve.

It - like many of the arts in Japan influenced by a combined Shinto/Zen consciousness - works with concrete material to express and open spiritual awareness .

You're pulling my leg, right? You want to 'open spiritual consciousness', try four sticks of tsukune (minced chicken breast) dipped in raw egg and sprinkled with shichimi-togarashi, washed down with three or four jumbo chuhai.

I can remember when smoking was permitted in Tokyo subway stations and hospital waiting rooms. And I couldn't eat in a restaurant or enjoy a cup of coffee without carrying home the stink from somebody else's Seven Star or High-Lites in my clothing and hair. Nice to see Japan making progress, and you can bet other municipalities and prefectures are watching Kanagawa.

I can seldom walk down the street without seeing at least one Japanese parent completely disregarding their small child while they tap out messages on their device; or a cyclist pedaling unsteadily down the street while trying to do something with his phone; or a pedestrian holding up traffic as he or she strolls across an intersection while in the midst of a game. Mobile phones have made meiwaku fashionable. I can't think of a single good thing they have done for humanity. They're also a significant drain on household budgets. The overseas vacation I'm planning in the near future will be paid for mostly with the funds I didn't waste on one of these idiotic and completely unnecessary toys.

France is making a statement that it expects people who desire to live there not to engage in extreme behaviour that clashes with French values. In other words, even if Muslims (or others) choose not to assimilate, at least they should not stand out. A full veil signals a rejection of encounters with others. That's about as rude as it gets. If such a female addressed me on the street for directions (for example), why should I acknowledge her existence or show her courtesy in return? To those who insist on their right to exhibit this kind of feudalistic and backward behaviour: do it to your heart's content in your own country, but not when you come to mine.

Whenever either U.S. party gets hijacked by its extreme wing (c.f. Goldwater in 1964) they take stock after their resounding defeat and, like the Terminator, reform by the time of the next election. Strom Thurmond, George Wallace, Ralph Nader, Gus Hall & Angela Davis and the other 3rd party candidates have never been able to make much of a dent in the mainstream party factions, because the latter have too much money and influence to be moved to deviate from the status quo. In fact, that's what the tea party is really about -- rebellion against the status quo. Nothing new under the sun.

There are rumors floating around that China's getting ready to claim Midway, Tahiti and Easter Island next.

But sometimes, the U.S. official said, the replacements are far less competent than their predecessors

Aha! But isn't that also true for NATO and US troops as well?

I can't think of anything more shallow than people with the conviction they will somehow please god by draping themselves in ridiculous attire.

Years ago when I was young and dashing, the daughter of my company's president had a serious crush on me. I took her to Korakuen to see the Masked Destroyer and Abdullah the Butcher team up against Jumbo Tsuruta and Antonio Inoki. I got drunk and threw my beer cup into the ring, so they ejected us from the venue. On the way to the station I asked her to wait while I piddled against a concrete utility pole. That did the trick and she ceased to consider me as a potential suitor. I suppose it all worked out for the best.

You can use the "Chopsticks" typeface, or you can give it a title like "Year of the Dragon" so that people will know it's set in Asia.

Kanagawa (well Yokohama) was also the first place in Japan to ban public urination, back in Meiji times. Look how long it took them to deal with cigarettes. I wonder what they will outlaw next.

I have a computer connected to the Internet. I have a telephone (land line). That's plenty for me, and anything more than that is a useless indulgence and waste of money.

Canned chili con carne with beans. Saltine crackers to crush and sprinkle over the top of the chili. Packets of pre-steamed rice. Water. Beer. More beer.

"Bullit" with Steve McQueen. With this film's success, Hollywood realised the way to the viewing public's heart was to include more and more shooting people dead, car chase scenes and explosions.
