Even if Mr. Soros is well meaning it's still paid-for propaganda, and the amount he spends will be equalled, if not exceeded by right-wing oil billionaires and Rupert Murdoch.

This will probably get investigated by Japan's Fair Trade Commission and rescinded by next week.

The 'deregulation' the Republicans keep trumpeting is just a license to steal. Contrast the mess in the US with Canada, whose banks are solvent and residential property prices stablised, because it wisely adopted a policy of preventing people's savings and other assets from being plundered by mercenary traders.

For the next two years and counting the civilised world will be trembling in fear and loathing as it waits to see which redneck, born-again serial adulterer the Republican party will nominate as its standard bearer in 2012.

Mr. Araki exemplifies the mindless conformity and narcissism that is typical of 21st century humans. He desires respect, and to obtain it sets up a sham organisation and surrounds himself with alienated flunkies. It's happening in the US with Glenn Beck, only on a much larger scale thanks to the ubiquity of cable television.

I suppose we'll be reading similar 'mission accomplished' stories like this for some years to come.

The question is should have used the term 'climate change'. Actually a lot of the questions I've seen in JT polls reflect a superficial understanding of the topics on which people's opinions are being asked, and therefore I don't put much stock in the replies.

    Their time will come.

Wishful thinking, mate. If ever put on the dock, Bush and Cheney would take a cue from Eichmann and use the defence that they were only following orders. In this case, god's orders.

Moderator: Back on topic please. Th subject is Tony Blair.

The people who hurled shoes and eggs at Blair are not nice people.

They are still nicer than the once who wanted to hurl hand grenades but couldn't get past the security check. Blair will be hounded for the rest of his life, so he might as well get used to it.

It's got to be a conspiracy by the Mossad. The Japanese are not smart enough to come up with Nippon Civilian Police on their own.

Genuine skepticism is healthy. It's even amusing to read the passionate posts of people who are less believers than obviously intent on disseminating disinformation. None if it is going to change the world, and Americans will muddle on, wondering how they're going to avoid repossession of their home or car. (Unless they work for Goldman Sachs, in which case they'll worry about the barnacles adhering to the hull of their yacht.)

He was right about one thing -- the contents of the Discovery Channel are TERRIBLE! It's too bad he didn't survive, he could have taken them to court and sued them for bringing on his insanity. I can't watch the lowbrow, pseudoscientific crap they broadcast for more than 5 minutes without wanting to scream.

No, no, no techall, you got it completely wrong. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld were merely stooges of the Mossad. Who are owned lock, stock and barrel by the Rothschild family. The purpose of the Iraq war was to boost CNN's ratings so it could sell more advertising to El Al airlines, to fly tourists to Israel. The revenues will be used to build a ski resort on the Golan Heights, to be built by Haliburton. The World Trade Center was about to be condemned anyway due to a bedbug infestation. Mohammad Atta won the bid for demolition, but they forgot to notify the tenants and, as Paul Harvey used to say, now you know the rest of the story.

Not to worry. In three or four generations their kids will be completely assimilated as Americans, watching MTV, snorting coke and cybering in front of webcams. And exchanging Christmas gifts.

9/11 conspiracies are analogous to a powerful drug, and it's clear that addicts become anxiety ridden whenever anyone dashes the cold water of reality on their delusions. In the end, it's a harmless indulgence I suppose. Have fun, guys.

Sigh. Sabiwabi, you have really got a major fixation over Israelis, Mossad, Zionists, etc. These, to anyone who needs further explanation, are all euphemistic substitutions for the you-know-whats -- those people whom you keep insisting you have nothing against. You yourself admitted your hatred of Israel a few screens back, and it's pretty obvious that you hate them so much, you are determined to blame them for anything -- 9/11, the death of Princess Diana, SARS, AIDS, the Tiananmen Incident and the Boxing Day Tsunami. You might be a bit more convincing if you'd put down your dogeared copy of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and adopt some other tack.

I am rapidly tiring of this debate, but would like to point out that those who suggest a conspiracy in here keep raising a stream of questions but have yet to produce anything remotely resembling solid evidence that contradicts the orthodox explanation. And they've had nine years since 9/11 to do so. I think it's safe to predict that in 2051 people will still be passionately arguing these things -- and no new revelations will have been forthcoming.

somebody help me out here...what was it all for, again?

The day after 9/11 all the flags at the UN in New York were flown at half staff except Iraq's. It was Saddam's way of saying he felt no compunction to express sympathy to the country that had kicked his butt out of Kuwait nine years earlier. An infuriated GW Bush saw this as a provocation, which he turned into a justification for attacking Iraq. All of the pretexts successively offered for doing so -- Al-Qaeda complicity, WMDs, genocidal attacks against Kurds, bringing democracy to the middle east, etc. -- were spurious. Americans went along because they were angry and sought to recover their lost face by attacking a country they knew they could easily defeat militarily. So much for 'Mission Accomplished'.
