Could be a bunch of expat Iranians. Could be any number of people who neither favor nor trust the U.S.--a number growing every day and for good reason. Could the U.S. be involved? Gulf of Tonkin, WMDs in Iraq, etc.
I would say in this particular incident, probably not. But I would never put anything past the U.S.

Me thinks that Okinawa and the municipalities involved just got a whole lot more money from the central govt. May look similar to the 2006 plan, but the prefecture is a lot richer for all the fuss they put up.

All one has to do to "be qualified" is to win a presidential election--dems the rules. Nowadays, the only practical qualification is making money for defense contractors; Obama has risen to and exceeded that challenge. He's an exemplary CIC.

Complete hypocrisy on the U.S.'s part. What sanctions will the U.S. face for the multitudes it has murdered?

Ah, negative PR on a global scale--the Japanese worst nightmare. Let Taiji continue the hunt, but with one important restriction:
No government subsidies--kill only enough for the market.

Toyota has been hiding its problems for years. The problem is electrical, but they've been trying to pass it off as floor mats or mechanical. It's time to properly fund the NTSB so they can effectively go after the auto makers who knowingly sell defective products that kill people.

The demand for care workers is exploding in Japan. Most Japanese themselves are just too lazy to work in the field. The too few care facilities for the elderly in Japan are chronically understaffed and have a high turnover rate. Japan needs to expand the programs mentioned in the article manyfold. But I'm puzzled by Hatoyama's comments: "We should do this?" Do it! You're the one in charge.

Considering what he wants, it was a perfect gesture--loads of tatemae for the J-folks to eat up. Oh, okay U.S., we'll go easy on this military base thingy.

Sarge, I also pay taxes in Japan--a lot. And I'm glad that there is at least some semblance of democratic rule here that prevents one or the mobs from forcing their will on everyone else. If Ichihashi is proven guilty, he needs rehabilitation; he needs to understand what he did was abhorrent to the morals decided upon by our society, and he needs a long time to reflect on his crime and somehow atone.

"He lost his right to be treated like a human being when he snuffed out a young life."
So you're willing to lower yourself to his level in the name of revenge?
"The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons."
Quite reflective of Japan and its penal system. Ichihashi deserves punishment, but not torture or inhuman conditions.

You've gotta feel sorry for the guy. I'd hate to be grilled by the cops here day in and day out. Yes, I know he committed a gruesome crime, but prisoners have rights, too.
