"As a poster stated, "mama's boys" are in a lot of Western cultures. The author must have just stepped off the plane at Narita and thinks he discovered something that's unique only to Japan. (rollyes).".

You will find the same dysfunction all over the world Rom3, but this type of dysfunctionality can be more pronounced in Japan. Some of the stuff I'Ve seen in Japan at friend's house and what my male friends have said about their wives has been truly mind-boggling.

Not disgrace for tobacco industries or JT I think, but his community is a complete disgrace to humanity. For his community to do that to him really shows a lack of intelligence, and how childish they are.

The guys who use these sites are obviously a problem, but so are these girls. Some of these girls who prostitute themselves do have serious problems (financial etc.) but many of them do it for other reasons. The latter girls really need to be examined very closely, what really makes them do it? What mindset makes you want to prostitute yourself for the sake of a LV or Hermes bag? It's not only the girls, but society that helps push them into it.

Me too, I hope he has great success. I think it will be good for everyone in the long run. Many Japanese like to give the foreign (mostly US) markets a shot and even though most don't succeed, it's important to try. And I think it's equally as important for more foreign artists to give the Japanese market a try. In the long run it will help to break down the stereotypes and social barriers, but in the short-term ... I so look forward to the long-term hehe.

The word itself isn't rascist at all, but how it is used by many Japanese is very rascist. To me, "gaijin" means foreigner or more like "non-Japanese". But many Japanese don't think about the use of this word.

So when they are talking about "Western" people they just use the gaijin as if those Westerners are all part of the same group, which shows a lack of respect for different cultures. The Japanese very often forget that each country has its own culture and set of beliefs, they just prefer to dump all the non-Japanese countries into the same group. This I believe is what causes the problem.

That's the sad part of the whole thing, take a holiday, but the person has mentally reached a point where this is not obvious to them (if it was the cause). I think it goes to show that society is in need of a shakeup soon and make it a better place to live, not just work.

It is a not problem caused by retirements, it is caused by not having a satisfactory training system in place. The experience from the cops of earlier times should have been passed down to younger cops, it's the same in any job/industry. Now, the Japanese police force will need to rebuild.

And with the new technology available, from the article anyway, it appears that the police force haven't keep up with this either. So it is a double whammy, experience not being passed down the "generations" and not keeping up with the new either. A not promising situation.

I have to agree with memyself I. Bobbi is able to make a nice living, but at such a cost to other people. I think Bobbi should look at ways of giving respect to others as it is really needed.

I think it would be fantastic, especially in a country like Japan where it is a culture of shame (and I don't mean that in a negative way). In the old days, in the typical Japanese neighbourhood people took more of an interest in their surroundings, now with nuclear families they don't feel the need to look around them. This appears to be one of the reasons why crime is on the rise.

To bring these criminals out into the open, where they would be publicly shamed would have quite a dramatic effect I believe (as the effects would even carry over to their parents). It would show potential criminals what is going to happen to them if they get involved in something illegal. I think if their names are reported in the media, youth crime would plummet so quick.

I won't complain about hostessing either. Like many other professions it certainly has its pitfalls though, so it would take a special kind of person to do it. If I were a girl I might give it a go myself.

I don't particularly care if they have talent or not, doesn't bother me much. What does bother me is those stupid ads that portray foreign people in a stereotypical negative way. Has anyone seen those Asiaessence (sp?) hair care commercials? It has the beautiful Asian girl being the center of the party (no problem with that, she is gorgeous) but the earlier ads had all the blonde foreign chicks acting if they were so jealous.

And to be honest, I don't know what is more stupid, the people who made the ad wanting to present such an image or those blonde chicks who chose to appear in the ad, certainly they must have known what they were doing.

I'd just say most young people (and even older people) don't have a huge repetoire of recipes, but can cook simple stuff. And I would dare say that is true of any country you go to. Not many people are cordon bleu (is that the correct word?) chefs.

Simon, that is an incredibily unintelligent thing to say, you're picking up the standard stereotypes again. And just to be fair, do you have any idea how much fruit and vegetables Japan simply throws away just because it isn't in absolute pristine condition?

At least in the US and Britain, they produce most of the food they require and won't throw away something that has a slight imperfection.

I seriously doubt this will create a trend to improve your health through video games. For sure, it'll be a boom for a while, but like all games, people will tire of it and then move on to something else. Anyway, if your serious about improving your health, there are better and even healthier ways of doing it other than through video games.

"I think it is because of the foreign language. I think most people in for example, the US are not used to seeing movies with subtitles. They tend to miss out on a lot of the visual part because they are trying to read what's at the bottom of the screen. For those who are Anime watchers and like seeing it in Japanese this is not a problem.".

I'm not trying to flame you Kitsune, but what you are saying is based on actual fact or just your personal opinion? It seems like you're just making a gross generalisation here (as are most posts on JT...).

Is the actual question actually true or just the opinion of the person who posted the question? I think it is just an opinion that is not based on fact. I've seen quite a few films in English that were subtitled not dubbed.
