"Kiwis and Aussies don't like each other".

A silly comment if ever there was one.

Back on topic. Does a 30cm move in a land mass require atlases, GPS devices etc. to be updated? I know 30cm is very small, but was just wondering.

Personally I don't care at all whether is 55 and she is 33, good luck to them. It just galls me that these "relationships" can be called newsworthy and get so much newstime. As if they contribute anything to the world.

"If saying "I do" in English was too hard for them, maybe they could have said the more universal phrase, "OK!".

I think they should have used that often used Japanese gesture since saying, "I do" was too difficult ... just nodded their heads several times enthusiastically.

As I've got one kidney I prefer bottled water as I believe it to be cleaner (not that I've ever done scientific tests on it or anything of course).

"... it’s come to this because women feel no awareness over being observed by others. They’re concerned about those in their circle of acquaintances but have no consideration for anyone else. The trend is to treat others as if they didn’t exist".

This pretty sums up Japanese culture. Until that it's laughable to think that anything else will.

Probably another jackass venting his frustrations on the world. No excuse, but at least he didn't use a knife.

"The food wasted on this competition is pretty insignificant. If you are that bothered by the food wasted in the Nathan's contest then you should be boycotting just about every food service establishment in existence".

I hardly think there is some similarity between the average food establishment and this kind of contest. Yes, at the average "food service establishment" we all hang out cheering each other to bigger and better forms of gluttony. But if you think so, more power to you sir.

Sorry to say this, but I have absolutely no respect whatsoever for these, "athletes". In both countries (i.e. US and Japan) where food waste is just rampant, it shows how little we compassion we have for the starving millions.

"I really wonder where some posters who claim they have lived here a long time actually live. Paddy's chalked up 16 years now, and in my little piece of suburbia there is not one housewife with a job that I know of. Not one. They all have kids, well generally kid, and that's it. They do not return to work, or do anything to add to family income. This is completely typical of Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba and Tokyo suburbs".

You might have been here 16 years (I'm on 15 myself) and what you say might be true in, as you say, "... my piece of suburbia". It is probably true, and I don't doubt you at all. But then you go on to say, "... this is completely typical of Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba and Tokyo suburbs". How do you know this for a fact? You've gone out and done some research to back up these claims? Just talking to the average "Jiro Tanaka" doesn't make for an infallible information source. What he might say or claim might not be true for everyone else.

My own wife's mother and father divorced after he lost his job when he made a major mistake and put the family into major debt. I know, through my own work, of women who have divorced husbands over job loss. And I also work with women who work because their husbands simply don't make enough.

Very often in Japan I get the feeling that "oldtimers" here think they know everything and nothing will convince them otherwise, and no one else's opinions matter.

Oh dear o dear ... I've lived far too many years in Japan, as I thought the English on the poster was perfect. Oh well, it is Japan after all, anything in English is ok, even if it makes sense or not. Actually, most stuff in this country concerning English never makes sense.

My wife has told me some horror stories about when she used to go to high school in Tokyo. Some really sexually perverted people on the trains here, so she and her friends would make a group in the middle of the trains to protect each other. But even after numerous incidents none of them ever complained to the police.

I guess she must be one of the few Japanese who doesn't think Japan is a safe country at all.

As has been reported on several JT articles previously, forensics here lags behind many countries, and police seem to be only interested in reaching their quotas for paperwork each month to avoid any extra work.

And on a cultural level many Japanese would rather avoid the "fuss" of making a complaint to the the police or a court, which gives Japan a very biased low crime rate I think.

    Are you Australian Altria?

Back on topic, I might try this, but I would prefer rum and coke.

Just looking at the can, I'm also wondering what the underage drinking crowd is going to think about this "new" drink.

Just goes to show what can happen, can happen at some really unfortunate points in time. It really is a message that we all need to get out and enjoy ourselves a little more and hopefully do something meaningful in lives before our time is up.

I must be one of the few to think JAL amongst the worst. Whenever I've been on a one of their flights there level of service is very low. And I have found QANTAS to be one of the better ones, of course they don't have as strict limits on age as some airlines do leading to some people complaining that QANTAS staff aren't very attractive (as if that has anything to do with quality of service). ANA isn't bad either.

And for the few times I've flown on Vietnamese airlines, I've also enjoyed flying with them too.

Must have been some kind of tomfoolery happening at that place. Seems very strange that two people fall into the river at the same time after having a few beers. Water and alcohol just don't mix.

"Eating tons of sushi" is up along with, "I want to see a kangaroo (while I'm in Australia)". It always sounds like people have nothing better to say. Just something to stroke to minds of the masses.
