so economy matters, but it's not all there is to it. but it matters. but it's not all. but it does matter. but not in absolute terms. it is however significant. "This is why politics is also a game of inches."

they are a tool world financial elite uses to compel national elites to pass on the costs of systemic financial collapse (of aforementioned intl. elite's doing) on to the working population of each country.
their slogan: austerity for middle and lower classes or watch your country's ratings go down and interest up! france, iceland, uk, japan, greece, germany, romania, usa, aus... every time the same slogan, and every time masses fall for it hook, line and sinker.

uchimizu is a strange custom indeed. it seems to me that all it accomplishes is driving the humidity up, as if we needed any more of that. the only logical explanation i can come up with is that it is a residue from the times the streets were just dirt and wind would get it all in your face and clothes if you don't sprinkle it...
any thoughts?

do you think any part of history could/should be commemorated for it's own sake or is providing wider background always needed? how wide should the scope of such references be? should we go further back and include what provoked japanese to aggression in the first place? or even further to establish the link between subjective behavior of any nation's elite and the objective conditions that resulted in a prevalence of a particular outlook and policies in any given epoch? we certainly cannot limit ourselves to that without showing how the planet on which any of this was made possible itself came to be in the form we know it...
come on, there's no end to it!

actually, to lose a kg of fat you will need to burn 9.000 kcal whose source is purely fat. jogging or running you can expect maybe 40% of your calorie burn to come from fat. that means that in order to burn a kg of fat tissue you will need to expend in the neighborhood of 20.000 kcal. for distance events like marathons it is approximated that one hour of work will require 1.000 kcal, meaning you need to jogg for 20h to effectively lose a kilo of fat. average marathon time for japanese lady, 5 plus hours fits perfectly into the equation...
and obviously, your lifestyle leads to having this or that type of body and nothing short of dramatic and long-term change to your lifestyle can result in meaningful changes in body weight or composition, at least speaking of healthy people

The WikiLeaks documents confirm the massive scale of US-NATO repression. By the American military’s own classification, which downplays the role of US and NATO troops, the release includes 13,734 reports of “friendly action” by US-NATO forces. The number of Afghan attacks—there are 27,078 reports of “enemy action” and 23,082 of “explosive hazards”—shatters claims that the Afghan resistance is the product of a few Al Qaeda terrorists. There are 237 reports of popular demonstrations against the US occupation or US-controlled Afghan authorities.

if we were to keep them every member of the "royals" would have to by with 1.5 median income of the country they supposedly represent. all the real estate nationalized of course. if they think they can't manage with that, well work to get the median up i say.
the real question for me is what do we do with all the plutocracies straddling us as it is

money is just paper backed with trust. i think more transparency could only enhance the trust we all have in the system and really cannot imagine someone would argue against listing of compensations. i'm all for openness and teamwork.
also. i think workers should also have a say in how much is alloted to managerial positions. not a final say, but definite input, together with the shareholders.

nationalism and xenophobia find their way into mass entertainment and/or sports. what's new? it's the same old "they took our jobs" argument applied to football in this case.
this comment even says "domestically produced players"... probably fed on local food only, as well.

The Gulf oil disaster is rooted in social conditions and processes that extend far beyond the particular actions of BP and other corporations responsible for the Deepwater Horizon incident.

"The circumstances of Rudd’s removal are a graphic exposure of the thoroughly worm-eaten character of both the Labor Party and the entire system of so-called parliamentary democracy in Australia."

The leadership challenge was not decided by a move from the caucus but by a tiny handful of unknown factional bosses and union bureaucrats responding directly to the demands of powerful corporate and financial elites for a revamping of the government.

in many african countries the annual pay can be under 300 usd. like congo per capita gdp of 332$!!!! how can ghosn justify earning the likes 42.000 africans?!!!
not to mention speculative hedge fund managers that rake in as much as 1 billion a year (which by the way is 500.000$ per hour if they work 8h/5days a week)!
ghosn by the way is pronounced like gone, which is what i'd like to see this system that supports such inequality, gone with the wind, the way of slavery.

just the first five comments from yahoo japan:
1) rant about BP being based in britain, and look what they've done in the gulf of mexico, finishes with ironic "country of gentlemen" 2) praise to nippon for not leaving the iwc and just have talks with whaling countries instead. why all the blame on nippon, what about canada or norway? etc... 3) england's royalty also hunts foxes! WTF? 4) calling britons tone-deaf when it comes to palate, goes on to warn not to behave as you're still an empire, plus an expletive 5) equating it with "anti-whaling terror organisation"
and just go and sort the comments by the number of "i agree" clicks if you want to go (much) further down this path... i just hold on to the hope that it's mostly net denizens, pretty much of the same sort as anywhere alse but...

i was not allowed to be present in the delivery room in 2005, so i don't see much grounds for: "the days of fathers being barred from the delivery room are (nearly) over". it was a big, famous, university hospital as well.
oh and the absolute favourite for the quote of the century was when the doc told my wife (a lady doctor) that they do not give pain relievers or anesthesia because "oriental women are good at enduring pain". i so wished to inflict some on her right then and there but...
