This case is a sad tale, and the Children will bear most of the trauma and ill-effects. Christopher is kinda' low for playing around on his wife, and Noriko is narrow-minded and somewhat bigoted for taking her children to Japan on the fear that they were losing their Japanese cultural identity. Again, the children are the ones who are the losers. On top of that, because their father is American, it is likely they will never be truly accepted by Japanese society shoujld they stay here....unless, like Becky, Thelma Aoyama, and others, they become rich and famnous and totally give up their American/foreign identity...

Let me further add that blame for this falls equaly on the shoulders of both Christopher and Noriko. Chris shouldn't have cheated on his wife, and Noriko should have been less selfish and less culturally narrow-minded, in fearing that her children would lose their Japanese heritage if they stayed in the USA.
All in all, it is the Children who are the biggest loswrs in this fiasco....

The next time some Japanese "expert" starts lecturing television viewers on how the USA has done this or that thing badly, I'm going to remember this situation. It is hypocritically interesting to see how Japanese people and "experts" will lecture me about how bad the USA is and was for not signing the Kyoto Accords to end global climate change, yet in a case like this, where a father is denied visitation rights simply because he is foreign and the wife is Japanese, these "experts" suddenly "disappear" from in front of the TV screen.
It is tragic, TRAGIC, that this sort of thing happensin the 20th century, but there it is: it does. If I had been in this father's shoes, I would probably have done the same thing: taken the children as they walked to school, and made a run for the nearest US Consulate, Embassy, Military Base, or other US Government Entity, because once the mother brings the kiddoes to Japan, there is no recourse, especially if the father is foreign. I had an Egyptian friend who divorced from his wife, and he took his son with him to Egypt. A sad case, but Asraaaf did the rght thing, because it is very likely that he would have been kicked out of the country and never wuld have seen his son again.
So long as Japan does not sign the Hague Convention, they have no right to lecture any other country on their international dealings.

Yep, kuroki looks old in this photo. If she were wearing the same outfit as Karina, it would be hard to tell which one was 48 and which was 25....

While I do think it is worth noting that both President and Mrs. Obama spoke at the IOC meeting (though Mrs. Zapatera, Mrs. Hatoyama, and Mrs. de Silva did not) when Chicago presented their bid, I don't blame the "loss" on the President or First Lady. I also do not think it is a "loss" for President Obama, but am glad that Chicago didn't get the Games primarily because of the fact that it would have been another undeserved, unearned feather in Obama's cap.

Kwaabish - Tokyo was the favourite among......the Japanese Media, and there only. Even the IOC Members stated that 2016 would be too soon for Asia to have another Games, seeing how they were just held last year in Beijing.

Hurtado - Why is all of that a problem? Beijing won them, and a month before her games opened last year, there was a major crackdown in Tibet. Having been to Rio, I can assure you that vast improvements have been made, and will be made.....

I, for one, am very happy to hear that Rio de Janeiro won the rights. I've been there, and I can't help but think that the Olympics would sdo so much to help the citizens of both Rio and Brazil. I think it is a real shame that the Olympics are going to South America for the FIRST TIME in seven more years, but, the good news is, they are going to be staged there, and Rio will be a great place for them. Rio knows how to put on a show and a showcase, as does the rest of Brazil, so I believe the Rio Games in `16 will definitely be worth watching.
I am also glad to se that Shintaro Ishihara - the Governor of Tokyo - failed in his bid to gain the Games. Gov. Ishihara is -- as someone else stated -- the very antithesis of what the Games represent: he is a blatant and egotistically bigoted racist who doesn't deserve to have the hosting of the Games -- or at least, the winning of the rights -- as a feather in his cap before he leaves office. Gov. Ishihara has continually and regualrly blamed Tokyo's problems - particularly the ones involving maor or violent crime - on foreigners and has states in the clear that Japan would be better off without so many foreigners present here. For that fact alone, I am very happy to see Tokyo passed over.
I'm also glad that Chicago didn't get the Games for basically similar reasons that Tokyo didn't get them, with one exception: the crowing about having won the Games wouldbn't have come from the Mayor's office, but the President of the Unirted States of America's, again adding glitz and luster to a President who has done next to nothing to deserve anything o the kind...

i believe that Hatoyama will bout within a year as PM and Ozawa will be the new one. Can't believe an old pol like Ozawa will be content to merely be a cabinet member or party leader....and Hatoyama seems too similar to former PM Shinzo Abe: a cardboard cut-out....

While not knowing much about how Japanese women use and abuse men, I do know form having taught mostly girls and women in my 11+ years here that not all J-women are stupid, airheads, nor prettier with their mouths shut. Are there J-women/girls that are ditzes? Even a superficial perusal of Japanese Primetime and late-nite TV will answer this question easily enough. Are there J-women that make terribly choices with regards to their relationships? Yes, and several of my former students messed up theirs by sleeping around. However, are all Japanese young women like this? By no means. There is a great percentage that seem, from my own experience in dealing with them, to want the traditional family and home, and are waiting and hoping and praying to find the right guy to share all of that with.

So long as the Japanese Government and Media continues with fear mongering and showing people thatthere really is no hope for anything, suicides will continue. So long as parents fail to be so in this country to their children, suicides will be the norm. So long as companies and employers continue to demand so much from their workers with so little in return, suicide will always be seen as the way out. So long as Japan's society worships death, so will life continue to look like the drudgery it really isn't...

Gov. Ishihara is the #1 reason why I hope Tokyo DOESN'T get the
16 Olympics: he is a boorish racist and a rabid bigot, blaming all of Tokyo's and Japan's ills on foreigners.....the very people who will crowd downtown and boost the tokyo Economy if thelympics come in 2016. I hope the IOC picks Rio, but in reality, AWBT = Any Where But Tokyo....Article Unavailable

If Tokyo gets it, we'll be hearing about it for the next 20 years. I, personally, don't want Tokyo to get it because of Gov. Ishihara being such a rabid racist and bigot. If they get rid of him in the next election, then maybe I'd pull for Tokyo. Until then, no way on God's green earth. Furthermore, the disruption of the Tsukiji Market, too, and its planned relocation form a place its been in for decades, is another travesty.
I, persoanlly, believe ti si high time a South American City be a host, and I've been to Rio. good place, and hosting an Olympics wuld do so much for Brazil and the citizens of Rio.

And Rep. Wilson was right for doing so. I thought it hilarious how President O' was stopped dead in his tracks. And what about all the tmes the Democrats in Congress boo-ed and catcalled at President Bush? Can we say "two-faced hypocrits"?

Can't agree with the murder, but I can understand this Dad's anger. Its interesting that some postors here are defending the 38-year-old beau and saying that the 22-year difference isn't that big a deal. Did we miss something? The girl in question (yes, GIRL) is a minor - 16 years old. Now, were she 20 or 21, then, yes, by all means, let them go.....but 16? A High School Sophomore or Junior? Defenders of this relationship, are we missing something?
