Ozawa basically needs to shut his mouth: all he can do is complain, but he never has any solutions. What a loser!!! He seems JUST LIKE Nancy Pelosi: full of complaints, but no solutions. I pray he never becomes Prime Minister!!!!

I like how CavemanLawtyer and nigelboy are basically blaming the woman for getting murdered, because she apparently "didn't do enough" to protect herself. She told the police and her friends: what else should she have done? Blaming the vicitm is pretty-low class...

...and right on cue, the J-Police did absolutely nothing.....and now a woman is dead. Makes me feel all safe and cozy, living herei n japan, knowing that Japan's "finest" is on the job, doingt heir utmost to stop criminals from committing horrendous crimes, such as this one. I'm so confident of the police and their ability to protect me and my family, that I'm very tempted to buy a .3030 pump action for use in home defense....

I agree: manners are far more attractive than breasts...especially fake ones like the four presented in the photo above....

I am sorry that this woman and her family is suffering.....but I place much of the blame on her. How could she let her 5-year-old go off by herself? When I was 5, I was allowed to go one place by myself: the yard around the house. If I went anywhere else, it had to be either with parents or with someone my parents trusted and knew. I am sorry, and I grieve for this little one's death; I teach a hundred like her every week at a yochien and hoikoen. This was a tragedy, and I hope the killer gets locked away for the rest of his life, if not given the chair. However, this mother's allowance of her daughter to go and walk around the neighborhood by herself is symptomatic of an endemic problem here in Japan, and if parents don't wise up, and realize that, yes, even in smaller burghs like Togane, Chiba, there are sickos who will hurt their children, we will continue to see tragic stories like this.

The fact is, President Bush was telling the truth: Iran supports Hizboullah and Hamas, not to mention the Shiite militias in many parts of the middle east. Ahmadenijad giving a "pollice verso" to President Bush ought to be taken asa badge of honor.
President Bush is not the worst president in USA History: There are many, many who were worse than him, Carter and Clinton being but two...
In fact, I believe History will show that President Bush was as good as gold, and right in so many of his decisions...

Sarge - See BS is in the tank for Obama, as is NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, and the majority of US MSM. I'm not surprised that See BS called it for Obama. However, the truth is, Obama lost that debate. Instead of the "poised" rock star form the DEM Convnetion, I saw a testy, frustrated, defensive young upstart getting his hat handed to him by an experienced debater in John McCain. 'Twill be interestign to see whow round 2 gopes, and how Palin does against Biden on Thursday...

here's my take: McCain looked poised, cool under pressure, and in control. Obama looked defensive, testy, irritated, frustrated and on a few occasions appeared to lose his composure. Obama agreed with McCain too often, and on several points, had no answer for McCain. Round one to John McCain.

If Pakistan cannot do the job of reining in the Taliban and Al-Qaeda as they promised to do, then, yes, the US and NATO Forces should raid into Pakistani Territory. However, Obama and his idea of a full-scale invasion of Pakistan would be stupid: they do have nukes and are capable of using them...

I believe it stems from personal irresponsibility, which is why the housing maret has gone into a free-fall. The fact that people tried to buy houses when they didn't have the money to do so, and that financial groups like these allowed it to happen is the r eason for the economic problems...

Serindipity - Hospitals are everywhere....could not the person who stuffed this baby in a bag, and into a locker not taken this baby anonymously to a hospital? Baby Hatch availability is irrelevent....
A tragic case, and the perso nor people who did it ought to be found, tried, and jailed for a good long time....

I still want to see it, mostly because of what I've heard about heath Ledger's portrayal of the "Joker".
Posted in: The story is very pessimistic. It has a dark and gloomy texture that Japanese movie fans do not find appealing in a ‘comic hero’ film.

This is a sickening thing. However, as long as husbands and wives stray, there will always be a place for such people.

The problem is that herei n Japan, it is ingrained into peoples' heads that Japan is the #1 place in the world. why go anywhere else? That means foreigners will always be "foreign", no matter if a person of foreign parentage is born here, grows up here, lives all of his or her life here, knows the language as a native speaker, and is completely and totally sensitive to Japanese culture. In fact, I've had Japanese students at the college where I teach who were caled gaijin by their friends simply because they chose to spend more than just a month or two in the USA, ne of the students graduating from a US High School.
This kind of change will not happen over night! I agree wth escape_artist!
Posted in: One essential thing is to get rid of the tendency to regard foreign workers as cheap, expendable substitutes for a decline in the domestic labor force. Japanese need to socially and culturally reinvent themselves to live with the foreign population.
