Dortmund is not a big club!? News to me. Their stadium capacity of 80,000 is bigger than United's, and its almost always full

Dave, this is true, Dortmund is 1st and Manchester United 3rd when it comes to highest average attendances in Europe. More important though are the total revenue rankings and on Forbes 2012 list United are 1st with $532 million while Dortmund are 14th with $197 million (United's valuation is also 6 times that of Dortmund).

Anyone who travels much in Asia will realize how massive the Manchester United brand is. Dortmund hardly register a blip.

Some experts have stated that by 2030, India will be the world's leading economy ahead of America, China, Japan and probably Brazil will be in second place.

Not quite. According to IMF projections by 2030 China will have the largest GDP closely followed by the US with India a distant third, Japan fourth and Brazil seventh. Even by 2050 the US is still forecast to be slightly ahead of India with Brazil having the fourth largest GDP and Japan the eighth.

timtak, are you being deliberately obtuse? Can you really not see the difference between committing fraud and reporting it? The Olympus board destroyed over $1 billion in shareholder value through shady deals to try and cover their bad investments. You defend this while atacking Mr. Woodford for trying to discover the truth and protect the shareholders. What a strange viewpoint you have.

timtak, don't you perhaps think that the board members who actually committed the fraud should be the ones apologizing? If any employees lose their jobs it will be entirely their fault and definitely not that of Mr. Woodford.

    What were 1 and 2?

Cleo, No. 1 was 'Like a Rolling Stone' by Bob Dylan and No. 2 was 'Satisfaction' by The Rolling Stones.

Amazing the lot of gaijins living here completely separated from the realities of Japan. Not watching TV - at least the NHK news but still claiming they know a lot about what is going on here.

ebisen, the idea that anyone will learn anything worthwhile from watching NHK News is laughable. Fortunately I have cable TV.

Timtak, could you please explain how paying $687 million to a Cayman Islands company, that has since disappeared. benefits shareholder value? It should be very clear that this is a case of serioius fraud, thus the FBI probe.

it"S ME, I was simply pointing out a commonly used acronym for the region. Don't quite see how that constitutes an unprovoked attack.

Or stop that Bush administration induced thinking that seems to be common to americans now. Bogart you are wrong too, you don't work for the world.

it"S ME. Now I am confused. No idea what you are trying to say but the fact is the MENA is a widely used acronym.

No, it is the right answer even if you don't like it. Not really sure what your post is trying to say though

888naff, if you bothered to read the thread you would realize that nobody is jumping to conclusions. The facts are pretty damning all by themselves and it is hard to avoid the conclusion that massive fraud has taken place. Based on all the evidence we have, Mr. Woodford has behaved correctly. Why do you feel the need to attack him? I can only assume it is because he is not Japanese.

And how can we in Japan watch the game(s)?

Well it is almost over now but all the games have been live on J sports 1 or 2. I believe the final will be on J sports 1 at 5:00 pm on Sunday.

According to a front page article in todays FT it seems likely that Mr. Woodford was fired for raising questions about more that $1 billion in payments made by Olympus to shadowy third parties. In particular the Gyrus case in which documents show that Olympus paid $687 million to a Cayman Islands company called AXAM that had been named as a financial adviser. The company disappeared from the trade register 3 months after receiving the final payment from Olympus.

Sounds like Olympus has lot of explaining to do to its shareholders. Perhaps those attacking Mr. Woodford are now ready to eat humble pie.
