Watched the whole thing last night. Probably the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

Beer Gardens in Kansai used to open in only July and August years ago, but the "season" has been getting longer every year. Any complaints!?

You've been huddling in the cool night air knocking back those brewskies?

Personally, I would rather knock back a few BG pints on a warm evening in May than the middle of August. Come July 1st, I'll be in a bar in front of the A.C!

He was charged with "having a sexual relationship" - not rape. Doesn't that me she was willing? AND, she went out - AT MIDNIGHT to meet him. Sounds like fair game to me!

What do you suggest they do? OK, I'll have a go at this one.

    1. For starters, deal with the huge problem of a growing economic gap in society. Youth who are not part of the so-call "kachi-gumi" have absolutely nothing to look forward to.

    2. Take real measures to deal with ijime in schools. Believe it or not, many Japanese don't want to be part of the group and they shouldn't be persecuted for being "weird".

    3. Initiate a transformation of the secondary education system (esp. HS) with the goal of eliminating the class system of schools. When children travel long distances to attend school every day, they cannot build relationships with people in their own neighborhood, hence, they tend to stay inside by themselves. Children are more likely to develop communication and social problems when they cannot make friends.

And it’s a whole lot better than carrying your golf clubs on the train.

Ha, that's funny. In all my time here, I've never met someone who is a regular golfer that is out to find a "bargain" on a car.

It's funny you see so many accidents like this because most of the Japanese parents I know pamper there kids to an almost annoying point. I find it hard to have a conversation with some people who are totally engrossed in whatever it is their kids are doing. Or maybe that's just my world...

Am I off the mark in saying that Japan seems to have a really high instance of weird crimes? Fair enough, the number of serious crimes per capita is probably low compared to elsewhere, but there are just so many bizarre incidents here. If this is a consequence of capitalism and the type of society a growing economic gap spurns, I don't think I want to be here 10 years from now. The country will be full of nutters.

It's so true, old people are everywhere, man! I feel so young walking around or taking the bus.

I did notice though, that the space allocated for old dudes on trains is not increasing in my area.

Those prison conditions seem a bit harsh.

I'm not passing judgment because I don't know much about his story, but even if he is completely guilty, I don't think prisoners should be treated like that for such a crime.

Yes, some will say that prison is supposed to be hard and that this may serve as a deterrent, and I agree that criminals shouldn't be allowed to kick back and watch telly all day. However, my argument is a comparative one. Most developed countries provide hard, but humane, conditions for even murderers and rapists. Considering this, his treatment seems harsh to me.
