From lengthy experience of Japanese their is very little sympathy or charity towards unfortunates.

I remeber a similar case, and the guy went to jail, around the same time a rapist was handed a suspended jail sentence.

I made clear the big picture. The US must stay to ensure the region does not turn into anarchy. Leaving too soon, would result in Iraqi`s living in fear in a disjointed country, fighting civil war amongst itself.
