The Royal couple will be treated with great respect and dignity at all official functions in Canada and the US including Pearl Harbor if they were to change their itinerary at the last minute. Japan needs to understand it is respected in Canada, the US, Australia, New Zealand and Britain (its old WW1 allies, and its sadly WW11 foes).
There is no need for any Japanese to cringe or fear going to places like Pearl Harbor. To do so is to completely misunderstand these five Protestant Christian Countries. They are all very forgiving. For the last six decades they have all worked hard to assist and support Japan to become the success its own Japanese people made it and a great business partner and ally to all of us.
The best manifestation of Japanese sorrow about Pearl Harbour is for a Japanese war ship to sail in, with its Japanese flag flying at half mast to signify respect for those who died.
The Royal Couple could host a function on board for dignitories, including Presdident Obama and Secretary of State Clinton with some local US servicemen that were there that fateful 7 December 1941 day. The need to say they are "sorrowful" for those who died that day but and "glad" or "happy" for those who fortunately survived. The Americans will understand and respect this gesture. There is no need for another apology in fact it would detract from the occasion.
All young Japanese need to understand the facts and simply accept it was a 15 year mistake, 64 years ago in a several thousand year proud history, and leave it at that. They must focus their minds on getting on with making a success of their lives, being creative and clever and keep Japan a technologically advanced and productive economy.
The greatest gift Japan can give the World is to be an economically strong, enlightened, and creative country, a generous supporter of small struggling Pacific nations, but mainly a major part of the balance in world power to ensure world peace.
I was proud that Japanese soldiers served alongside Australian, British and US soldiers in Iraq, whatever, readers consider the merits of the war are. The thing is Japanese Army engineers, protected by Australian soldiers, did a lot of good work for the local Iraqi inhabitants with little loss or Iraqi lives to my knowledge. The local Iraqi's will remember this as us Aussies do.
Japan has to promote its culture and its natural beauty to the World. Thirty years ago it was dream for us Westerners to visit Japan to experience its natural beauty. I don't know what happened but it rarely gets a mention today. It has probably a lot to do with the overvalued Yen. Japan, you must open up yourselves and your Country to us Westerners, please.

The real secret to sex after 45 sadly is just "thinking about it" or "talking about it". As for those older guys that imagine they're 20 again with Viagra, it is like a sixty year old women getting a face lift and thinking she looks 20. You don't. You may look and feel better which is good. So all you younger men and women, make the most of every opportunity while nature has you primed for it, within reason and safety of course and not something that will bring regret. A sexual intercourse opportunity foregone, is sex never to be had. So value it and don't save yourself up too much.

Superlib. I thought the people behind stopping Milosevich and the Serbian Army committing genocide on the Kosovars were UK PM Tony Blair and US Senator Bob Dole who convinced US President Bill Clinton to use US airpower to defeat the Serb's. And The US Airforce did it essentially on their own from 38,000 feet. I still picture foolish Serb's standing on bridges holding paper targets above them as they taunted the world and continued their mass slaughter of Moslem Kossovars. If you are going to stuff around with any force on earth, make sure it is not the US Airforce because you will be vaporized as well if their Commander in Chief orders it. The wimpish Europeans did little as usual, except one German radar operator tipped off the Serbs of the flight plan of a US fighter/bomber causing it to be shot down. There was no way the Iraqi's could give up Saddam like the Serbs later gave up Molosevich to get acceptance back into the EEU. Correct me if I am wrong in my facts.
The whole world is entitled to my opinions.

British PM Neville Chamberlain returned from meeting Hitler Adolf Hitler waving a signed letter from Hitler saying Germany would not invade other countries, uttering a mantra "Peace in Our Time". Hitler also signed a non aggression pact with the Soviet Union a week before brutally invading his neighbors and the world found it had to go to war to stop him. 100 million died including 27 million Soviets. The Japanese Ambassador was negotiating a peace agreement in Washington with the Presidential staff, at the very time it made its surprise attack on the US at Pearl Harbor. Stalin starved 9 million Ukrainians in 1932 and the Bolsheviks pulling the strings robbed the Russian people of all their land and wealth and the Soviets gave the world a 68 year cold war. What did it cost Britain, the US, Australia, Canada, NZ etc., to restore freedom to the world and those aggressor countries. The only difference with Saddam was the timing and on this occasion the West got in first. No more "or gee, but" please. The whole world virtually came to the same decision on Saddam in 2003. France didn't want the invasion because it had been supplying his weapons and munitions. Saddam kept his all French built planes on the ground knowing they were no match for the US planes. The Australian SAS captured all their fighter planes at the main tactical airport within the first week. Most of the deaths in Iraq came from an internal religious and race war exploited by Al-queda insurgents. I am happy to have lived for the last 64 years under the protection of the five Anglo Saxon countries. You cannot trust or rely on anyone else.

Australia has 21.5 million people and 140,000 die naturally each year. Iraq has 25 million people so lets say 150,000 natural deaths each year. Since the coalition forces interceded and freed Iraqi's from Saddam's family's brutal rule in March 2003 - then 6 years by 150,000 = 900,000 Iraqi's would have died naturally. Official UN records indicate 80,000 died from the civil and insurgent war that followed plus 4,000 US troops. Few US or Iraqi's died from the 21 day war itself. Sadly few countries march into a long period of real freedom and democracy without massive bloodshed. Hopefully, Iraq and eventually Iran will become strong free, democratic secular states over the next decade and places we would all want to visit. It is just a tragedy with us humans that so many have been called upon to make the supreme sacrifice so that others may live in peace. Despots rarely leave without sacrificing huge numbers of their subjects. Hitler would have preferred all Germans died.

thedeath: Beautifully said indeed. Poor old Davidattokyo's dentures will still be chattering, "whaling is sustainable", long after he has left the surface of this beautiful planet. The ocean waves will crash, the krill will continue to replenish and the whales will swim on hopefully for ever. All the large mammals on earth are at serious risk of extinction now because of just one, us humans! And we are the ones with the advanced brain. God help them!

adaydream: I am underwhelmed by your comment, "like him or not, I didn't care for Saddam...". Wow! I imagine you wouldn't have cared if Ouday Hussein was running the show now, or perhaps the US hadn't bombed Gaddafi, a secret purchaser of Pakistani nuclear bomb no-how, or if he was still funding terrorism around the free world. Our world is essentially free, thanks to the US and Britain. As they say tyrants prosper, when good men do nothing. You sound like Goody, Goody Two- shoes! I bet you put a clean hanky in your pocket everyday and change your underwear everytime another male inadvertently looks aggresively at you. Bush did his job!

adaydream: After the brutal horror of 9/11, the US and the world was not in the mood for asking questions and shooting later from any potential threat. The jobs done now. You can sleep tight now and email JP in your spare time. I say thanks to the servicemen of Iraq, the US, Britain, Australia, Japan, Holland, Poland, Canada and all the other countries that saw it through. For those male suicide bombers, I guess it is every Moslem girls dream to go through life as a virgin, so she and 71 others can go to Heaven and spend the rest of eternity married to an pamper a crazy suicide bomber. I think it's just "a daydream".

adaydream: I guess your psuedonym fits! The American people largely supported Bush at the outset and the war was over in 22 days when armchair experts were saying years. Perhaps if the US Civilian Administrator, Paul Bremmer, hadn't sacked the Iraqi 500,000 strong Army shortly after against the wishes of Colin Powell and the Pentagon things may have been much different. There is never a soft warm cuddly solution when the likes of Suddiam Hussain and his brutal sons, get absolute power, and brutally misuse it on their own people and their neighbors. Who knows where it would have ended if Pakistan had sold him or his sons some nuclear weapons? We don't have to worry about it now.

Recently, a US inventor discovered a means of applying a particular radio frequency to salt water which caused the escaping gases to readily burn at 1500 centigrade. An endless supply of power to run engines, cars, power grids and so on. The stone age didn't end because we ran out of stone, and the oil age won't end because we ran out of oil.
Seems to me the real home of Al-queda terrorism and the billions of dollars for extreme Watanabe Islam was Saudi-Arabia. It is not Afganhistan or Pakistan.
President George W Bush had to play the hand that was dealt him. After 9/11 his main task was to keep terrorism out of mainland US. He was eminently successful. He also played a big part in assisting the rest of the world minimise or block terrorist attacks on their citizens too. I would give him close to 100% for that as well.
Interestingly, it is the same three Protestant Christian countries countries that played such a big part in ending German military expansion in WW1, again in WW11 and now misplaced Islamic extremism and
terrorism in the Middle East. The US., Britain and Australia.
When you look at the several hundred millions that either died or suffered unspeakable misery and terror when Japanese militarilists got control of Japan and much of SE Asia, Bolshevik Communism and Nazism got control of Russia and German respectively before the same three aforementioned bastions of western freedom and democracy defeated them in Europe and in the "cold war" at no small cost to themselves, then I wish to express my gratitude and admiration to them. I would not want children or grandchildren living under the brutal jackboot of any fascist or communist.
It is amazing how happy happy and peaceful Iraqis living in the US and Australia are. Why not in Iraq? I believe they will and good on them.

northlondon: For your edification, because I am missing the humour somehow in your comments, a non-discrimination policy is one in which we take people from all nations, creeds, religions etc. It is not an open door policy. You seem confused. There is also a long que and many try to que jump others. Australia takes about 15,000 refugees a year plus some que jumpers. What is more, all these different people (180 different nationalities) get on really well with little racial or ethnic tension.
You may not have noticed but we have the Union flag in the top left hand corner of our flag and that design has about 99% support in Australia. We voted a decade ago to reject a Republic for the existing Constitutional Monarchy with the Queen as our head. We love Great Britain here and all it has delivered to us. If you guys could only play AFL football and cricket the world would be a better place. You don't understand the peace making all inclusive fun delivered by the Sherrin.

Den Den: The trouble is some Pomms have no time for humour, they are to busy feeding their winging, slagging and mocking in the midst of Australian plenty. For them that is culture. Australia has a non-disciminatory immigration policy. You would get in on wit alone.

northlondon: whatever we are, we are happy and wealthy and take in 300,000 legal immigrants a year including Pomms. Most illegal immigrants come by plane. Australia is concerned about exploitation of desperate refugees by people smugglers - we have no idea how many refugees tragically get lost at sea. As our former PM Mr. Howard said, we will decide who comes to this country and the circumstances for which they do. We even take Pomms with weird senses of humour.

davidattokyo: How many people in the world actively support whaling?
If Japan is just going to ignore the IWC if it fails to gets its way. That is a dire warning to the rest of the world that lives by the law.

Zurcronium: I probably lost you with facts mates. The 1917 revolution was the Bolshevik Revolution. The proponents and almost all operatives Jewish, many Russianised their names. It is not a racist comment, it is what happened. Their communist theory was to dispossess people of their land and assets and introduce collectivised state farms and factories. Tens of millions were stripped of their wealth and millions finished up starving. The system was a failure of gigantic proportions. Eventually the whole system collapsed in 1988. Our Western system was introduced in Britain in 1691 and protects private ownership of land and assets with courts and laws to back it up. It has made Britain and the countries that flowed from it the freest and wealthiest on earth. Our economies are mixed economies with some planning, some public ownership and a lot of private ownership and a free market. The mistake the Americans make is to associate "Socialism" with the former, not the latter as it is practised around most of the advanced western world.

Zurcronium: It seems you are confusing socially beneficial activities with the brutal Jewish 1917 "Bolshevik" Soviet communism that dominated Russia and its neigbors until 1988 and the genesis of the far more genteel kibbutz in Israel. They were misplaced experiments of an earlier age. They failed because they involved the destruction of private and individual property rights. Something that is not envisaged by anything President Obama promotes. President Theodore Roosevelt as long ago as the 1890's, a enlightened man of enormous inherited wealth, saw the benefit of public infrastructure, services and utilities and introduced them in NY State. 100 years later New Yorkers were selling to the world the benefits of privatising public infrastructure and services for personal gain. Obama had little choice with his big spending as the US is publicly bankrupt from borrowing for stimulus packages to benefit private entreprise and tax cutting at the same time. The alternative is a financial collapse for say a decade or more and widespread and absolute misery in the US. Guys you have to start doing it better!

ninjaninaritai: Japan has benefited enormously after its misplaced former militarialistic past ended in August 1945 and the West ensured Japanese Society was rebuilt on a free, democratic, secular basis and poured in enormous economic Marshall Plan aid to underwrite it. You and the other young Japanese today have only known peace and prosperity in your life times which otherwise would not have been the case. Be grateful for it as am I.
None of Russia, China, India, the US, Britain, Indonesia, Germany, or virtually any country on earth is still whaling. Just little old Japan along with insolvent Iceland, and intransigent Norway who only do it to sell their modest catch to Japan.
If whale meat was actually popular with the 127 million Japanese as your officials represent it to be, it would be dearer a kilo than bluefin tuna. Mate, they are just not queing up to buy it. That is why you stick it in freezers with doubtless much secretly getting dumped.
Japanese youth know that by developing a whale watching industry around Japan's unique and beautiful coastline those seaside resorts would develop micro economies that would dwarf that of the primitive and treaty breaching whale slaughter industry. But then Japan is dopey enough to think it is fine to manufacture motor cars and export them to the US and elsewhere at secretly way below cost and undermine other country market based motor industries. We call that mercantilism! It is evil. As a result you have the worst level of public debt in the world. 200% of GDP and rising. Japan is not running up real trade surpluses - it is going bankrupt pretending it is. Like, hey, we really love having a whale meat snack with a Saki while watching TV.
Your fight on the whaling issue is one of blustering jingoistic nationalism first, rather than just going along with the 6.4 billion people on the planet who oppose it and just may be right.
The fact that Japan buys off a number of tiny little poverty stricken states to get their whaling vote is reflective of the same insular, self centred, dogmatic militarialistic approach of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. A real Socially aware country would channel aid to those countries that had lonmg term economic social benefits. Not just an annual drip! It is why Russia was given the Kurile Islands back at the Yalta conference without firing a shot at Japan in WW11, and won't give them back to Japan now. Russia doesn't need them.
The world see the four Japanese representatives sitting at the front row there of the World Whaling Conference like four stooges and it gives the rest of the world the Sh..s. It is not an issue worth Japan losing national reputation over. The economic value is tiny as is the number of people employed in it. Japan loses money doing it. Now that is what the rest of us call plain stupid. Then they get people like you cheering for it.
