This old grub may be able to get away with this stuff with his wife in Japan - but NOT in America. A nice 6 month stint in an Hawaiian correctional facility may just help rehabilitate him.

I don't imagine Japan has any penalties for this sort of thing anyway, so catching them won't do much. I just hope someone throws fireworks at the scum who did this, or they end up burning themselves.

Where have those posters gone now who were proclaiming the three would be hung, drawn and quartered, force-fed whale 3 times a day, etc? Logic and commonsense has prevailed as I predicted it would. We await the SS next move.

I quite like Bob Brown as a pollie with principles - personally I support his views on the Carbon Tax - but his party wields too much power for the small vote they get. His calling the govt. "gutless" for not sending a naval vessel to monitor the situation is beyond the pale. I just hope the Greens don't inflame things further and this matter is quietly resolved behind doors.

Japan is currently the biggest trading partner of Australia

Actually, she hasn't been for a long time now. China is by far our major partner, just like China is Japan's major partner. Anyway, I take your point about diplomacy between nations - both nations are equally very important to each other, and about as friendly as countries can be. Deals will be thrashed out; just as deals have been thrashed out in regards to Chinese sailors illegally entering Japanese territory. As the Aussie govt. has stated today, these three Aussie citizens' actions are in no way representative or endorsed by their govt. The few people on either calling for "fire and brimstone", 2 year sentences etc are gonna be disappointed.

Who knows, they might learn something other than the usual propaganda that they are used to.

Sure - they will be re-educated by the whalers as to the merits and vital importance of the "scientific research". Perfectly balanced and unbiased on their side, no propaganda there!

100 thousand yen then deported with traveling expenses invoiced to the Australian government.

Nonsense they will be invoiced, if you understood anything about diplomacy. Also, it seems a mere fantasy of yours that they will be given 2 years (suspended). Bethune got the same and also had charges of violating the Firearms and Swords Control Law and damaging property against him. IMO this will be settled before the trio end up in Japan.

What awful, racist and unsportsmanlike people a good portion of Liverpool "fans" are. I mean, hurling racist abuse - and rest assured it was not just one bloke in the so-called "legendary Kop" doing it - toward a black man playing in a lower-division just shows their lack of class. Then again, Liverpool fans have a habit of bad behaviour and hooliganism, which at times has resulted in stadium deaths. Banning their fans from all British stadia for a few months would be a decent punishment.

Have you ever seen an Asian/African/or Purely Latino country conquer another Ethnic (Naturalized) Country in the past 1000 years? Maybe a lot of internal wars but not against another , let's call it RACE. NO.

Don't know which (if any) textbooks you have read. Imperial Japan ring any bells? Or maybe in your eyes that is not "conquering" but being "invited" to "help" the likes of Korea, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, The Philippines,,,etc.. How about the Han Chinese persecution of many other Chinese ethnicities through history? You have not read of the countless examples of massacres between African ethnicities, Rwanda for example?

EVERY race and nation under the sun has committed outrages against other humans, of the same race and others. To suggest it is a white man's problem just shows your ignorance.

It is more than a little disturbing that a senior Japanese politician would believe a 12-year-old child could consent to an "orgy" with 3 men. Considering his portfolio, he should know absolutely EVERYTHING concerning this disgraceful incident. This grub should be removed from the diet - not just cabinet. Interesting that Noda hand picked these buffoons, he got the cabinet he wanted - it is a reflection on him too. Bye Bye Noda and co... who's up next?

Have heard there is more racism but from my understanding, Japan is the most "homogenous" in terms of countries. Korea has a lot more in the mix from Russia, Mongolia and China in terms of bloodlines - again, based on what I have read/heard.

@ tmarie - I think it is in terms of "registered foreigners" or something. South Korea is under 1 percent. Remember, Japan also has very, very mixed bloodlines from pretty much all over Asia. Not to menation Ainu and Ryukyuans. I think the term "homogenous ethnicity" in regards to a nation is pretty much a nonsense term nowadays, except if it was a tiny pacific island or something.

South Korea is even more homogenous than Japan. Alot more explicit racism there too.

I've heard the same. A white mate of mine copped a lot of grief in South Korea because he had the hide to be walking along with his Japanese girlfriend. Locals didn't like it one bit!

'kizuna' is a slightly better name than 'Happiness Realization Party'.

I always thought the Happiness Realisation Party sounded like a new-age, pro-LSD party. Probably are by the looks on the faces of the would-be-pollies on their posters I saw...

@ Ossan America - is there really a need to persist in cutting and pasting from Wikipedia reams and reams of superfluous information in your posts? Like this:

The Republic of Cuba is a socialist state in the Caribbean. The nation of Cuba consists of the main island of Cuba, the Isla de la Juventud, and several archipelagos. Havana is the largest city in Cuba and the country's capital. Santiago de Cuba is the second largest city

    and this -

Costa RicaCosta Rica Costa Rica , officially the Republic of Costa Rica is a country in Central America, bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the east and south, the Pacific Ocean to the west and south and the Caribbean Sea to the east.

    and this -

persona non grataPersona non grata Persona non grata , literally meaning "an unwelcome person", is a legal term used in diplomacy that indicates a proscription against a person entering the country...

With respect, we are able to use Wikipedia to access information on the location of countries. We know what Persona non Grata means. Cutting and pasting in order to pad out a 2-foot long post does not mean your argument is therefore stronger than say a 3 line job!

It's a shame LEXUS is slipping a bit - but with some new products such as more hybrid cars, they will be back dominating the Germans in a few years. If I drove, I'd want a LEXUS!

@ oberst - I think you are right - but you have to remember those kids in the other nations have had a head start on Kanji, which is why they are better at it than Japanese kids of that age. I think they look pretty nice - I'd hang any of them on my wall!
