I guess Yoko Ono still is the most famous Japanese person abroad (apart from the "Fukushima 50" if they count) - but being famous hardly qualifies as being talented. Must have been a quiet year for art in Austria? Having said that, her art is much better than her singing - and that is saying something!

Agree with Tel Porter. Asian confed. players (notably Aussies and Koreans) have been doing the business in England for years - I hope Lee's move will encourage more English clubs to give Japanese players a start along with their fellow Asian confed.. stars. Success for some Japanese players in Germany is good - but in my mind England, especially the EPL, is a step up from that. Lee could be the first big Japanese success in England, hopefully.

And you can rest assured that all the grubs who are shame-faced enough to work for that grubby company are still receiving their regular salary payments - life goes on for them. If you know of any TEPCO staff or live near them - give 'em hell, people!

Good on him for testing himself in England. Too few Japanese play in the English leagues - the only ones I sometimes watch online!

Both sides are money draining idiots.

Probably right - but at least the environmentalists are not taking our tax money like the whale hunters.

Is the world ready for a mormon to be the presidential candidate? (Not that there's anything wrong with that) I don't know how strict this Romney cat is - but being mormon he is no doubt strictly pacifist, and would withdraw a lot of US military from overseas if elected, no? They don't believe in fighting that mob. Unlike Obama who seems quite hawkish. Interesting anyway for an outsider.

They are a dictatorship for crying out loud! Japan would NEVER turn to something like that.

To be fair, Japan was not that far removed from the present military-run set-up in North Korea, pre-war. In fact, the North Koreans based some of their ideas on Imperial Japan. So Japan did turn to something like that - until we showed her the benefits and freedoms of democracy. Hopefully the poor koreans can somehow achieve our values of freedom some day.

The state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said it is a tragedy for Japan to have leaders such as Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda

I agree with the North Koreans on this point only - Japan does have tragically woeful leaders. Having said that, at least they do not imprison, torture and execute their own people if they disagree. Jong-Un will probably be just like his disgusting grandfather and scumbag father.

The police here should really be pro-active in the holiday seasons - like in Australia for example. Set up random-breath-testing everywhere. They would catch scores of drunk drivers - and no-doubt save lives. A couple of years ago when I went back for Xmas I was tested at checkpoints twice in 20 minutes in Sydney! Rest in Peace to the poor son and dad.

My understanding is that those who ate them were of an Asian background. However, there are signs up all over Canberra warning not to eat any of these mushrooms, so ignorance of the danger is probably not to be blamed on anyone. Just don't eat any wild mushies, people - even experts have trouble identifying them. Rest in Peace, as Elbuda says, awful way to go.

What must the few thousand family members and friends of the victims of these terrorists be feeling about this utter disgrace? I'm sure there are a few things they'd like to say to the buffoon J-cops. They were likely thinking about where their next donuts were coming from...

Rest in Peace to them both. I'm not a religious man - don't believe in any "gods" - but if there was one, surely this son and his dad deserve to be in a good place together somewhere.

@warnerbro - beat ya to it! What a farce this whole situation is - much like the authorities whole handling of the horrible crimes. I wonder what those thousands of friends/family of the victims would like to say to these garbage police officers?

News reports are just coming in that the bumbling keystone J-Cops actually turned this guy away when he handed himself in - dismissing him as a "prankster". You just couldn't make this stuff up:

Let's all be brutally honest here: the Japanese police will never catch the remaining terrorists in this case - unless of course they feel like surrendering themselves.

@ Ranger Miffy - unfancied here just means a team that no-one expected to win. Germany were red-hot favourites to account for the Japanese girls in the Quarter Final. In Australia we would call them the underdog.

I just love that term "military strongman". If I am ever a despotic tyrant military dictator in a banana republic, I too would love to be called a "strongman".

Don't worry SouthSakai - luckily for me I really don't rate mochi as a foodstuff. I find it too bland anyway.
