His proficiency in English, a rare quality among Japanese players

A rare quality among Japanese, to be sure. I reckon soccer players are on average way better at English than their non-soccer compatriots, due to exposure to foreign players and coaches.

They're just harmless otaku girls - let 'em have their fun. The disturbing thing is where women in their 30s continue dressing in this gear - I've seen it and it's not pretty.

I'm more of a traditionalist - I like my girls in micro-skirts and low-cut tops. But that's just me.

What a farce! Winning Championships is what matters - not who finishes with the "highest prizemoney". Prizemoney is small fry compared to endorsement money anyway. Do you see Ronaldo winning prizes for being the highest-paid player in soccer? Silverware is what it is all about.

Eddie is one dodgy guy. I ran into him about 7 years ago in a Tokyo bar when he was still the coach of the Aussie team. He was supposed to be coaching the wallabies, but instead was there in tokyo on 'unofficial' coaching business.

C'mon now - maybe he was on official business - scouting for fellow Aussies and Kiwis in the bar to don the shirt in the future for the Brave Blossoms! I like EJ - but you will find a lot of disdain for him in the small, closed world of Australian Rugby circles. They reckon his record for the Wallabies isn't crash hot. I wish him well.

I've never seen s better reason for immediate mass deportation.

Sure - that would be wonderful PR for Japan to add to her other woes.

I just read that my mob in Australia has ordered 75 of these things a couple years back. Let's just hope they don't start falling out of the sky when we take delivery - they seem bedeviled with problems before production has even begun.

In a small way, I feel a bit sorry for the dude - high-pressure job, stress, long hours - and as we all know, getting plastered with co-workers is as Japanese as changing PMs every 3 months. However, he should wait until his retirement to enjoy the delights of being permanently drunk like the rest of the old fogeys in the joint!

@ Disilliusioned - good on you for doing what I have wanted to do for years, stomping on the bonnet of a reckless driver! I have also been hit in the past, once by a truck charging through a red signal. I just wish people here would follow rules, RE not driving through red lights and not gunning it through Zebra X-ings when people are waiting to cross. People in my home town Sydney used to be exactly the same until the cops started getting tough and installing red-light cameras pretty much everywhere, and hitting people with massive fines. I for one would love to see thousands of traffic cameras pop up in this joint too - and perhaps a doubling of the fines. Let's crack down on these dead-beat drivers. I actually find Tokyo drivers to be pretty competent and safe - it's the countryside yahoos here that basically disregard all traffic laws.

    It was a tragic accident.

It was tragic - but make no mistake, this driver was solely responsible. 7 years seems way too short.

In my experience, you just can't expect drivers to stop for you at Zebra crossings here - they usually seem to actually speed up. Another disturbing and tragic accident with a common denominator with many recent ones - an elderly driver. Rest in Peace to the poor girl, and I hope the Mum and other girl recover.

" Being that no hardline communist regime has ever made it very far into a third generation of leadership, I believe that hopes can be realized for a reunification of the Korean peninsula "

That is true, but then again, no Communist regime in Asia has ever fallen. I truly hope this to be the start of the first and the eventual re-unification.

These new religions are all creepy. Meet someone, especially a foreigner, who has anything to so wif em and you should run as fast as you can in the opposite direction.

I'm more worried about the Japanese ones here, actually - they've been known to resort to terrorist actions on numerous occasions - and I would not put more terrorism out of the question for this Aleph mob. Just hope there are spooks closely following every individual member.

He won't be missed by anyone in the entire world - that is for sure and certain. He will be remembered as a tyrant who had a hatred of the Korean people, locking away, torturing and executing large numbers of them. Awful, awful man - just like his father - and I suspect his son will be a clone.

No mention of the money being thrown at Okada san - but as we all know there is some mega-coin in that China joint now. I suspect he is getting much more from this Chinese club than in his stint as Japan manager. More and more Euro stars headed to China - Anelka is on a plane there already and apparently Drogba is weighing up a massive offer. I hope Okada does really well.

@ ITS ME - I'm pretty certain no-one here would ever stoop to the depravity of torturing and bashing a little boy to death. I pray that's the case, anyway. So turning oneself in is a moot point.

Or maybe they call because they realised they did wrong and got the "Gonads" to face up and take their punishments like a man should. Or they could hide and run like a coward.

@ It's Me - I seriously hope you are not suggesting the possibility that this scumbag is not a coward? There is no bigger coward in all of Japan than this trash. Turning yourself in after beating a defenceless little child to death means absolutely nothing.

Why do they so often call police after they have done the deed? That seems to be a common trait in these sorts of crimes in Japan.

No doubt they think it will lessen their sentence, along with the usual talk of what he did being "regrettable", "unfortunate" etc. And it may just do that. I can only hope that this maggot is executed, however unfortunately the beating to death of a child is not considered a grave enough crime here. Shoot a politician over a business grudge - sure, execute him - torture and kill a child - 20 years then back out.

Rest in Peace little angel - never again to see that evil monster who tormented you for so long.

Wow - crazy stuff. Of all world cultures, I would say the Chinese and Japanese care for and respect their elders more than most. In my opinion, old fogies are often valued much more than kids here, unfortunately! Those crazies are talkin' smack again. Nothing a bit of good ol' waterboarding wouldn't sort out...
