Ever kissed a smoker? Don't bother people - I dated a cute girl once who smoked and had to dump her. Made up some other excuse. Even though she was pretty, kissing her was like licking an ashtray and a big turn-off.
And yeah - Genji - Japan needs to catch up with the likes of Australia and UK. Kids should not have to smoke whilst travelling in cars - or in restaurants. Bans and fines are the way to go because smokers will place their addiction above their own kids - make no mistake about that.

Well - agreed to a point there choiwaruoyaji - no-one would say this woman is "normal" . Prisons are houses to a huge percentage of mentally deficient/disturbed/ill people. No argument here. However she was found fit to stand trial. The point is she knew what she was doing was wrong, and continued committing this violence repeatedly. It was not a one-off brain snap - she attacked these babies over the space of 2 months.

Dunno if I'd be loud and proud about supporting such freak-show violence - and then insulting us sportspeople and fans by calling it a "sport"! Sorry, Bro - this "Krav Maga" aint a sport - it's a violent circus show for those plods with IQ60 and under. And the rich folk who watch it and laugh at those engaging in it. lol. but each to his own I guess. How about eye-gouging - is that OK too? Can't see why not if throat-punching (lethal by the way folks) is allowed in this "sport".
Arguing over whose sport is the "world's most violent"? Hmmm - that's not normal...

@ kchoze - what's the point of having a justice system with sentences as weak as pi$$ like this? I reckon I am like the great majority of society and view violence and attacks against children as the worst type of crime warranting the toughest sentences. I'm sorry - but this woman will be out in a couple of years (she has already been in custody for 2) yet many of the serious, lengthy sentences handed down here - 20 years for example - are reserved for corporate crime. Ripping off some corporation of millions is judged worse than sadistically breaking the legs of 4 defenceless, innocent babies. I think that is perverted - and it certainly is not Japan that is alone in being soft on violence against the weak these days. In my country too - Australia - you are liable to be whipped with a feather for violent crimes against innocent people.
That was her defence argument. It was found to be a complete nonsense. It was pure jealousy and hatred of other's happiness that drove her to these heinous crimes.

Yet again the judges showing just how out of touch they are with society. This monster deserved minimum 15 years. As she is a child abuser, I also hope she has a permanent restraining order not to approach within 100m of any child. Let's all hope the poor babies suffered no permanent damage by these cowardly acts.

Why is it that soccer seems to attract the violent streak among it's supporters? One soccer-crazy friend I know in England claims it's "because us football fans are so passionate". I don't call this passion - I call this hatred and the worst of humanity. Every other sports event I've been to, I can happily share a beer and a yarn with the rival fans sitting next to me. Sure - there will be banter and sledging - but I have never witnessed any violence. Aggression and brawling should be kept ON the sports field - not in the stands!

The 3000-odd people who live in the Falklands are overwhelmingly British citizens (more Japanese live there than Argentines - check Wiki.) They clearly wish to be administered by the British. The islands are a British Territory - end of story. The Argies can spit their political dummies and throw their rattles as much as they want but they know they were owned by the Brits in 1982 and are smart enough people to never challenge them again.

@ BlairHerron - cheers for the info and translations. It was sad to watch the old ladies on TV cleaning the schools that kids are likely not going to come back to. As you mention, a lot of those families will stay in Koriyama and other areas in Fukushima now - and Kawauchi mura will become a ghost village along with several other towns and villages, in spite of the Mayor's pleas.

@ Fadamor - I prefer to call it a "Crank" call! Semantics I guess. You are right though - these morons tie up the emergency operators and likely delay response times for those in need - dare I say they actually have contributed to deaths through their idiocy.
Have not heard of that before - but my God it's insane! There's no end to stupidity it seems...

I dunno if I call these "prank" calls. I mean, it's not as if he is winding the operator up using wit and jokes, ending up with a "You got Punkd!" He is just a cranky, abusive old drunkard. He needs a new hobby aside from getting on the sauce.

Good luck to young Miyaichi - I haven't yet watched him play in England. I'm sure I will get the chance soon - he will get game-time with Bolton for sure. Nakata also played for Bolton - it was his last club - and is held in high regard there.

I may have to start going to Starbucks then! Let's be honest here: there is no such thing as a "no-smoking" section of a room - it is like being "half-pregnant". I stopped going to Doutor because I'd leave the "no-smoking section" smelling like I'd just rolled around on 100 ashtrays...

BTW - I have a suspicion this figure of 20% is a case of under-reporting to be honest. I know a few Japanese ladies who have told me they don't smoke - yet funnily enough I've smelt it on their breath and they had discoloured teeth!

True - I guess it's a sign of the two economies where one group can still afford to keep up this filthy habit at $20 a pack - (Australia is the most expensive place to smoke after Dubai I believe) - and the other nation is struggling to afford $5 packs! At least in Aussie they aren't allowed to inflict their filthy habit on the rest of us in pubs, cafe's and restaurants. That glass "divider" in the cafes here aint doing anything! I stopped going to cafes in Japan largely because I don't want to breathe that crap in.

@ Sarcasm - that's the million dollar question for Aussies too. We used to produce loads of talent, and historically dominate along with the Americans, but now can't keep up with the Europeans. Tennis has declined a lot since the days it was one of the top few sports in Aussie. At least we can still produce womens Major winners - but only one bloke in the top 30 - Tomic - and the kid is a train-wreck waiting to happen.
