You can always watch events for free - in 2000 I watched triathlon, marathon and sailing - I'm sure there are probably even more free ones. Or if you are really hard for cash, just skip the able bodied Olympics and go to the Paralympics a week later. The competitions are also good and it's cheap as chips. I think London will do a good job, despite all the doom and gloom all throughout Europe.

The top 7 men's places are all Europeans, with only 4 non-Europeans (including Nishikori) in the top 20 - they're pretty good at this game that Euro mob!

Where did you come up with this nonsense? Please read some articles on this issue - many have been published over the years - about these workers/trainees. You will find the are ALL skilled - in fact, a good many of them are much, much more qualified than their Japanese co-workers. Some of them are Senior Nurses with lots of experience back in Indonesia. If you don't wan't foreigners here - just be honest and state it - don't go and make up lies claiming that these workers have no skills.
I will leave you with this thought: when you have retired and your family have shuffled you off to the nursing home, who do you think is going to be around to change your diapers? Robots?

Enjoy your nation's pile of rocks, Sunhawk. I'm sure they will rescue Japan from the major crises she faces right now, and your leaders can rejoice.

@ PT - you've hit the proverbial nail on the head I reckon! I suspect these "trial programmes" will be a rolling project for as long as the scheme keeps providing cheap-as-chips labour - a few smart alecks (maybe 1 in 200) will "slip under the net" and pass the test, much to the chagrin of the bureaucrats.
The primary reason this system is doomed to fail is that there just happens to be another greying nation next-door, becoming richer and more middle-class by the day, with more than 10 times the population of Japan - that is going to be luring these health care professionals on a massive scale in the next couple of decades...

Have to agree with Peanut, and it's sad but true - the "little" guys will probably never win a Major again unless the game changes away from the power players. Chang may have been the last. If Nishikori had been playing in the 80s, there is a good chance he may have already made a final or 2 at his age. Watching those guys Rafa and Djoko last night - they have the power game and can blast anyone when they want, but also the sublime skills of a Bjorn Borg. They are the prototype, and the scary thing is there seems to be a production line of them throughout Europe...

Bring back Hermann Cain! The Hermannator was much more fun than these two. These two blokes flip-flop because they have no core-values or policies - the Hermannator just flip-flopped something else around...

C'mon - it's now time to drop the Japanese government and media's euphemism of "comfort" - these children and women were used to provide sex for the occupiers. As for "volunteering" - maybe some did - but how the children could be accused of "volunteering" themselves for sexual services is a bit beyond the pale. I hope the arsonist is locked away for a long time, by the way.

@ Elvensilvan - I know - probably over 95% of care workers are Japanese born - but there is a massive shortfall, and it is just not a profession Japanese kids want to go into. As you say - the pay and conditions are just garbage. I know a few of senior ladies in their early 60s who do this as a later-life career, and it is physically very, very tough on them. They have told me they have almost no younger workers ever starting at their very big nursing facility.

If you can find thousands of Japanese-born people willing to become care workers to meet the demand here - in a nation with the greyest population - I suggest you let the government know where they are! I hope some of these people pass the test, but with the requirements, I don't have high hopes. They always have the option of taking their excellent skills and services to any number of other joints that are crying out for such workers ie The middle east, Europe and Australia, etc. Better pay and conditions too.

The best match I have ever seen - unbelievable! Neither player deserved to lose this game. Now that the great Fed seems to be fading, these two are so far ahead of everyone else it's not funny. They just don't seem to have any weaknesses, and at 24 and 25 they should both finish up with plenty more Majors!

How dare Mr.Maher criticise the honourable Noda and his reputable sidekick Edano - they handled the crisis so honestly and professionally. NOT! Will be interesting to see how Honda does. Lazio is a pretty big club. Going to Italy, he will first have to learn some important techniques to adapt. Theatrics such as remonstrating with and man-handling the referee, barrel-rolling 20 times when someone touches his shirt, being stretchered off for no apparent reason and then miraculously re-appearing 5 minutes later - and of course - diving in the box.

PS - you can rest assured the pampered children of the grubs of all parties sitting in the Diet have 100% coverage for all medical costs. A disgrace there is such a gap between the have and have-nots here - sadly even extending to children.
