Something doesn't add up here. I'd like to know what happened after he crashed the car into the station - was he taken out the back and "interrogated" by any chance? Was the old telephone-book-up-the-jumper interrogation technique used? I wonder if this is all captured on CCTV?

Don'talk to strangers on streets, even sexy-looking and elegant ladies. They can pop up your pockets.

They can make more than just pockets "pop-up" - I can tell you that from experience!

This is great for all those Japanese with loads of money who can take 90-day holidays. The country is full of them.

Yep - the creepy, middle-aged ones with the underaged girls hanging off each arm...

TEPCO probably could have withstood 99% of natural disaster eventualities. I don't see why they are negligent.

Are you on the TEPCO payroll?

Pay up, TEPCO! And stop thinking about the bottom-line and the miserable shareholders: those two factors are unimportant. This crisis will probably finish off these old fellas like Mr. Ando.

Ha ha - OK, pretty late, my grammar is all over the shop! Basically, what I'm saying is not to be afraid of flatmates, arrestpaul (or seesaw). I'm pretty sure being killed by your flatmate (by a baseball bat no less) is not a run-of-the-mill, everyday event. Heck - you may just save some money in the long-run if you live in a mega-expensive rental city like Sydney, Tokyo or London - and share a flat.

Had a lot of flatmates in my time, arrestpaul...still alive, buddy! In places like the UK and Aust. it is common to move in with flatmates, house-shares etc with people you have only just met. A few of them can be damn annoying (ie steal your food and CDs!) but most are perfectly fine - you have more chance of getting killed in a car accident than getting killed by them, let me allay your fears.

Granted, maybe in the Japanese situation there may be more of the creepier "otaku" types...

??...moving in with someone you hardly know. They must be insane.

Do you live in a cave? Never heard of the concept of flatmates?

taj - Thanks for the info. I just sent Hatoyama a mail to give him a piece of my mind.

Sarge - I don't know if these old geezers would be listening to foreigners, mate!

The fact is, Kan would have been ousted regardless of the triple disasters. He has had his go - time for the turn of the revolving door that is the hilarious farce of Japanese politics. Another no-hoper will be installed - and will only last 6 months - guaranteed. Japanese "democracy"...ha ha ha ha ha!

I do not want to be represented in non-political matters (e.g. international sports ceremonies) by a party politician.

I see your point - but at least we get to elec the politicians. As I said - I wouldn't mind "royalty" as neutral figureheads - if we the citizens were allowed to elect them.

"But it is illegal(In any country) to just hand out large amounts of money to anyone"

I'm sorry, but I find this hard to believe.

What is someone in a shelter going to do with 30000 yen? Go buy some dining room chairs? It is too little to pay deposits on an apartment, so what good is it?

Bear in mind many of these people have been unable to work, have to care for their families - and have bills, loans etc to pay. With a few hundred thousand people, I don't think ALL creditors are kind enough to waive all debts.

Also, some of them want to go out occasionally to restaurants and cinemas to break the mind-numbing boredom of their present conditions. Every little bit helps - Bless these donors!

Why on Earth are you apologising to other faith groups for wishing Christians a happy Easter?! I've never seen a Jew apologize for wishing people a blessed Passover or a Muslim apologize for celebrating Eid. Is political correctness gone so crazy now that Christians have to qualifiy their greetings not to cause offence?!

You are right Mayuki - but I wished everyone a Merry Christmas on here last year and got flamed by some non-Christians if I recall!

If Monarchies were more democratic - for example you voted for people who could become the monarch - and those people could be of different ethnic or religious backgrounds - I may support them on the basis of them making tourist money. Until that happens, they won't have my support, as much as I respect Akihito and Eliabeth II for example.

Happy Easter everyone. Hope you enjoyed some chocolate! (BTW, no offence intended toward the Muslims, Buddhists, Jews etc)

in some places ie Aus. UK, incidents like this are rare

By that statement , I mean it is uncommon for friends to abandon other friends in situations like this and the Oshio case...there is no likely risk of arrest.

If the drugs were legal. this wouldn't have happened..

Not necessarily. These drugs are illegal in most countries (if not all) - however in some places ie Aus. UK, incidents like this are rare - in relation to the amount of users anyway. The police do not get involved (usually) in situations where friends call an ambulance for their buddy who has overdosed. It saves lives. Not that I am defending these 3 people - I am hoping for some serious prison time for all of them. Rest in Peace to the poor girl.
