I agree ExportExpert - NZ are better than 64. I hope one day you guys join us in Asia, and benefit the confederation with your refs, facilities and energy. The All-Whites would benefit greatly from playing in Asia, rather than pacific island banana republics like Fiji.

northlondon - FIFA is indeed a joke. But from my understanding, kick-and-giggle friendly matches - such as when Japan beat Argentina - don't attract many points compared to international tournaments like the Asian/World Cups. To be honest, I'd still back England to account for Japan 9 times out of 10 in a competition...as much as it would hurt me to see England win (after the Ashes!).
Well done Samurai and 'Roos. Japan has overtaken the Socceroos for the first time in 6 years - hopefully the green and golds have a few games lined up to wrestle back the ranking as top Asians, later in the year!

Well done Samurai - 4th Asian Cup, eclipsing the Iranians who had a share of the record. It all came together under a world-class manager - they should ALWAYS stick to Europeans.
And well done the boys in green and gold, making the final at the second attempt, after not really making a decent crack in 2007 as we all know. I'm proud of them, they got some decent press coverage back home too, where Aussie Rules, Rugby League and Cricket dominate the sports pages. And how good was the great Schwarz? Like a fine wine that bloke, just keeps getting better!
What a revelation Osieck has been, allowing the boys to express themselves unlike under Verbeek. Heck, he even played a couple of kids from our A-League (McKay and Kruse)- unthinkable under Verbeek. Looks like the big boys in Osaka, Tokyo or Seoul clubs are gonna come knocking for McKay now...press reports suggest there may be quite a few Aussies gracing the J-League next season, which can only be a good thing for Asian soccer.

Dunno about that DarkBob - Obama, for example, loves his ciggies - and you'd be hard-pressed to find many willing to call him stupid - even if many despise his politics. Statistically, also, 36.6% of Japanese blokes smoke (JT, 2010) - and most of them aren't stupid I'm sure. When Japan was at the forefront in design/development in the boom, just about every bloke here had a smoke hanging out of their mouth. Personally, I think some people are more pre-disposed to nicotine addiction. I hate the stuff - give me grog anyday!
I also agree with Fadamor- BMI is not a very accurate indicator of health and potential dangers - many athletes/rugby players/swimmers/rowers etc would be classed as obese/overweight, when there is little fat on them. Waist measurement or "fat-fold", many researchers argue, are much more valuable statistics.

It is most certainly not "beer". In fact, it quite possibly isn't even happoshu. It is likely imitation happoshu. Avoid at all costs!

"Paul Taylor" - it sounds as though you have one hell of a chip on your shoulder. Drop the negativity. The rest of us applaud a great final between two good teams who are making the rest of the world sit up and take notice.
BTW - the socceroos is a great name, well-liked by most Aussies (and foreigners) - unfortunately, your opinion does not count.

C'mon Socceroos! Win your country some silverware! The cricket/Rugby League/Rugby Union trophy cabinet is bare and gathering dust.....
It should be a good game, we are going to need our defence to stand tall again if we are to have a chance - and McKay delivering good ball to Kewell again. A couple of goals by Timmy - against his bunny, Japan - won't hurt the cause either!

We are doing pretty well for an "also ran", though - highest ranked in Asia, and making an Asian Cup FInal on the second attempt!
Your point is spot on though - soccer is, by most measures, only the No. 3 or 4 football code in Australia - and is light years behind cricket. This will likely change though. That Bin Hammam muppet seems to have it in for Australia whenever he opens his mouth - he is probably just envious because his mob are woeful at any sport!

With nothing to separate these 2 teams - Japan and South Korea - it really comes down party to Managerial ability. One team had a blustering, trash-talking manager. The other team had a hugely experienced Italian who has done it all before. It is no secret that the 2 finalists - Australia and Japan - both have incredibly talented and experienced European managers (Osieck and Zac). European managers, not Asian-confed. ones, are the way forward.

Great pic. These monks, from what I can tell, are real. You have to be wary though - in my town, at least, a man has been been dressing up in this same gear for years and standing across from the train station pan-handling! I used to throw him a couple of yen, until a local friend told me he was a phony monk...

Recruiter - do you honestly think if the roles were reversed, a foreign rapist/criminal would be allowed to publish/profit from a book released in Japan - before he even went to trial? You and I both know it would (rightly) by stopped. This animal should NOT have the right to freely publish and generate money from this. People should have some respect for the poor Hawker family - they are outraged by this as has been reported. The publication SHOULD be stopped to respect their wishes.

Carsuke, sorry I sounded flippant with that reply before...but try and watch that Aus-Korea replay if you can. Aus squandered 2-3 chances that game, I reckon they clearly shaded the Koreans. Cha Do-ri (defender) was awesome however. Japan-Korea game was even money IMO. The Koreans dominated in patches as did the Japanese. I'm disappointed ot went to the PK lottery - never a nice way to end a great game.
Zac seems like a genius - way better than Okada. Zac seems to know the Japanese style. South Korea also need a European coach like Aus and Japan - I'm just not convinced Asian coaches have the knowledge/ability at this level.

He "only" raped/killed a gaijin girl - we can still buy his books and give him money. He is a "safe" and pure Japanese after all.

It is only a matter of time before the economy/currency here crashes in a massive way. Anyone living in Japan - local or Gaijin - who keeps significant currency assets in Japan, has rocks in their head...

Carsuke did not watch the game, by the way - and knows very little about soccer.
Talk your team and nation up all you want. We have only conceded 1 GOAL in the whole tournament. Your boys : 6.
Let the Banter begin...
