The sprawling size of the bases alone should indicate that the economic efficiency of every square meter of land is EXTREMELY low. They could probably raise horses on the land and get a better return just for selling the MANURE!

By your narrow and finite definition of "great track record" probably not. And not that I am going to accuse you of digging up statistics, comparitive or othewwise, to make the claim either. Who need stats when you got your gut, right? It feels to good to verbally beat up these people, right?
She is an actress and singer. He is a singer. That has absolutely zip to do with their private lives. Neither one of them are Paris HIlton. So part of their work is that they are seen by people as they work? Same with an English teacher!

Two dekichatta marriages that seem to be working are that of Hitoshi Matsumoto 2009 and Taiyo Sugiura 2007. You might also count Eita Nagayama 2009, although they were engaged before she got pregnant. And I know of several more from 2011, but its too early to tell how they will do.
These two don't have to go the way of Namie Amuro and Leah Dizon. No reason to be pessimistic. There seem to be as many Japanese celeb success stories as failure stories. I wish them the best of luck.

We know they want it out their neighborhood. But that is not any indication whatsoever of how they feel about it elsewhere. Two other options were briefly presented: moving the base to some other country or somewhere else in Japan. Nothing was said or implied that it be done against the will of the people living there. Seems to me they feel its not their business at all if another town wants the base. And that is quite the opposite of being selfish.

Its interesting how the less than clever are always so damned awful sure of themselves.
All these "birth control" comments hinge on one vital piece of information no presumptuous fool here possesses: whether or not they actually wanted a baby.
If you cannot wrap your head around that here: They may not share petty childish ideas that marriage MUST come before pregnancy. Next, the dekichatta marriage (not forced, so not shotgun), is in something of a vogue in Japan right now. Therefore, some couples are probably actually shooting for it, just to scandalize dumb people.
Yes, I know she told us all they were not even dating, a lie which usually implies they were not serious. But guess what? She owes us no explanation. She owes the press no explanation. She lied and she has every right as these paparazzi scum and their fans pry information they most certainly DO NOThave the right to. A "no comment" would have set off a tizzy off insane speculation. So her only option was to lie. They might have been at it quite a while.
Even if not, they STILL might both have wanted the baby and very conciously jumped in with both feet after a brief dating period. Stranger things have happened. This might just be a new twist on elopement.
Some other reasons to go for the dekichatta marriage are 1) the parents don't approve of the partner. But then OOPS! She's preggers! Parents now shut up. This trumps old style elopement. and 2) both want marriage and both want kids and DON'T want a sterile partner. No need for the hassle and expense of a doctor to prove they are both fertile. This method is free.
So please, drop this condescension about the birth control. Its as ugly as it is ignorant. This is not your best friend crying because he did not want to be a dad. You don't know these people.

Alex, your link is useless. The courts will determine if there is anything illegal here, not an inapplicable link from a foreign country.

Canada should just dissolve and become 13 U.S. states. Every day I see the differences between Canada and the U.S. disappear. They are so much the same now you can't really tell them apart any more.
Look at Vic's face. Man, I have seen so many guys who were a dead ringer for that guy and I tell you, none of them were very bright. It is no surprise a vote for torture would come out of that face.
Its already been said, but its so ridiculously unlikely that torture would quickly reveal information necessary to save lives in a pinch that its not even worth discussing. Torture takes time. Verifying the results also takes time. And if the torturee lied, you are back to square one. If the torturee actually knows nothing, its going to be a long process of wasted time and humanity. People who advocate torture generally lack the capacity to think.

So did the boy who cried wolf. But it was still evident there was a wolf.
Basically, jailing or not jailing someone on account of taking someone's word over another, due to their history of unrelated things, is a little nutty.
But here is the kicker. We don't have DSK's full story. He never gave us one. He was never required, and so, he never bothered, short of the diplomatic immunity lie no innocent man would tell upon arrest at the airport. But it hardly matters. There is no way DSK could possibly explain away what happened. If he could, he would have anyway. Its really not that hard to suss out, not unless we, like the courts, are so dumb as to base everything on cred.

Well I don't much care what either of these two "think". How about a vote? Isn't that what democracy is all about?
The majority should win the vote.
Or vote. Its happened before. But there is no need to declare independence to exercise the basic right of voting. Why is everyone so afraid of that simple concept? Why is everyone silent about it? All this empire and part of Japan stuff, and economic consequences to are just distractions. What do the people want? Its all that matters.

If the Okinawans don't want US forces, they should not be forced to have them.
As an American I wish America would leave all foreign bases and quit this pseudo empire business.

4,700 marines out of Japan is a good start. Lets us hope this keeps up until all unwanted US military bases are gone. If the majority of people in any city or town wants them, fine if the majority of people in Japan also want them.
Sadly the Japanese people have voted on this the same number of times I have: zero.

Its always bizarre to realize how many official "non-events" inspire action to make sure it does not happen "again".
But in this case I thinks obvious DSK attacked the maid and the way the courts work is whacked.

It is digusting that Tokyo would force the bases on Okinawa and also disgusting that the Americans would take advantage of them doing so.
And I thought this was decided? Just GTFO already!

Stupid is defintely one way to look at it, and fair enough. The government should not be involved.
The way I see it is that this is an effort by religious types and convservatives to maintain a power, through government, over our lives they know darn well they have no right to exercise. Of course, some of them actually do believe they are doing us all a mighty favor, as if preventing government recognized gay marriage will somehow prevent gayness and recognizing it will suddenly lead to a rapid rise in gayness.
Especially the religious types need to recognize the fact that they live in a secular country or GTFO. Pretending your religion based decision is fit to put into secular law is a lie, and your god knows you are lying.

To carry the unyeilding assumption that this attack was racially motiviated with no proof or reason to think so, outside of the fact of differing nationalities) is racist and also racist in more ways than one.
We remain uncertain whether the attack had anything to do with race or nationality. But some comments absolutely do.
Word has it they were looking to attack anyone and targeted some Japanese before Dhamala became the final target. So please, stop making the racist assumption that the only reason some Japanese would attack a Nepalese guy is because of their races. Its racist.

Could you name the stomach expanding chemical in marijuana then?
My understanding is that what it does is give you cravings. And its debatable if things taste "better", but they do taste different and the sheer joy of the experience and stimuli of eating is enhanced (or perhaps other stimuli are desensitized to the point that others seem enhanced).

Thank you scientists for providing hard evidence of what most intelligent people already knew.
Hopefully this will pave the way for the most unintelligent politicians and their unintelligent lobbyists to make drugs legal for those of us not hindered by our genes, which is to say most of us.
