"Moderate and fair" apply to the Muslim Brotherhood about as well as "Fair and Balanced" apply to Fox News. They need to be exterminated.

Another typical gaijin suketto pick-up by a NPB team. Mediocre minor league player, no success in the big leagues. Sounds perfect.

And people wonder why MLB is seen as far superior? The cream of Japanese baseball goes to America, and with one or two exceptions are totally underwhelming. By contrast, minor league players and major league cast-offs can come to Japan and have great success.

Sorry, bureaucrat then, not politician. Same principle though.

As to the idea that nobody understands the feelings of Okinawan people, that is nonsense. People DO understand. They just don't care, and don't think feelings have much importance when deciding issues of national security.

No surprise. That's what happens when the government inserts itself into the marketplace. Greedy politicians take bribes from greedy businesses. Let the free market run, and corruption would be shattered. There can't be any crony capitalism if politicians dont have any power to rig/sabotage the marketplace

The real story her is why was a politician going to a drinking party with a bunch of REPORTERS?!? A shocking level of stupidity and ignorance. Even if the journos promised the remarks would be off the record, it would be stupid to trust them.

Time for the Okinawans to stop whining. If the military leaves, their economy will be destroyed. I'd love the US to pull out and go home. Can you imagine the chaos is Japan were to actually have to defend ITSELF? Living next to 2 nuclear armed countries that hate Japan, a long coastline to defend, etc. The defense budget here would need to be tripled at the very least.

Ah, the sweet shortness of the liberal memory. It was only a few years ago, in 2007, when the Democrats were having the same winnowing process that the GOP is now- seeking a candidate. Complete with such political luminaries as Dennis Kusinich, Mike Gravel, Al Sharpton, and John Edwards.

Things will sort themselves out, and the serious candidates will survive. As they do with primaries for both parties.

EM: "They" didnt have a revolution. It was a military coup that resulted in a brutal murderous dictatorship responsible for untold crimes. Pardon me if I dont respect what they do or say.

Ditto for Taiwan and the farce of calling it "Chinese Taipei" in various international events.

    Zichi;

Again. Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that you are correct. The power from nuclear reactors can be replaced with other sources. What are those sources? And what impact does ramping up use of LNG/Coal/oil have on greenhouse gasses and the environment? This is the elephant in the room that anti-nuclear people fail to acknowledge.

It's a bit of a devil's bargain- support clean nuclear power, and there is an infinitesimal (sp) chance of a disaster. Support conventional power, and there is guaranteed environmental harm.

So, TEPCO will make up for nuclear power in two ways: burn more fossil fuels, and buying excess power from outside the TEPCO area. Which is great for TEPCO, but what if the companies that run the OTHER nearly 40 reactors decide to do the same thing? TEPCO wants to buy power from Kansai, but Kansai needs all it's power because they shut their reactors too. It's a domino effect that in the end results in trouble.

These reactors should have been built on a schedule with maintenance and replacement in mind. Build a couple new reactors every five years, and during that time replace the oldest one in the inventory. A good cycle of maintenance/replacement would ensure a steady supply of safe and environmentally friendly power for decades.

Whenever Iran has domestic trouble, they use either Great Satan Number One (the US) or Great Satan Number Two (Great Britain) to draw attention away. It's a pity really. The country was flourishing under the Shah- becoming a modern state with education and economic prosperity. Now, after 30 years of rule by the bearded idiot followers of Khomeni, we have Iran today. A country with massive reserves of oil that still needs to IMPORT gasoline.

Why are we calling Burma "Myanmar"? We don't call Germany "Deutchland" in English, or call Japan "Nihon".

I really dont see the point of all this digital networking. I don't particularly care what other people are thinking or doing, and I don't care to divulge the same information about myself. If I want to communicate with someone, I will do it directly, either in person or by personal mail. I don't feel this urge to broadcast my life for all the world to see. It seems very egotistical- everyone shouting "Hey, look at ME!".

OK, let&'s assume the reactors are shut down.

    Now what?

How is the power they generated going to be replaced? Coal? LNG turbines? Burning oil? Or do the people of Fukushima just learn to do without electricity. They can go back to the 'good old days' of living by candlepower, cooking over open fires, and heating their homes with open fires.

The best solution is to replace the old reactors with new, safe ones. Any technology improves over time. Get some newer reactors built that are more efficient and can provide the power necessary to modern life.

Obama is toast in 2012. The economy is shaky, unemployment is too high, his negatives are waaaay too high for him to have a chance at re-election. All his political manoeuvering isn't going to help. The "Hope and Change" campaign doesn't have the legs to work again. Unfortunately, he has proven himself to be just as much a tool of the big business interests as any GOP candidate.

His whole "Supercommittee" on the deficit has been a flop, he is adding $4 BILLION a day to the national debt with no end in sight.

Get ready for President Romney. He's a safe known quantity. About as exciting as plain yogourt, but that may be what people want in times like these.

There used to be a day that tinpot dictators like Ahmadinejad (sp) were quickly slapped down. If they dared to challenge the 'big dogs', they got bitten. I guess there is only one big dog left, and he is busy chewing a bone already.

IMHO, it's better for politicians to say nothing at all then proclaim how disapponted they are, how Iran's behavior is "unacceptable". Obviously, it IS acceptable, because it was accepted without retaliation.

Agreed that people who take advantage of others are everywhere. Japan has its share of subway molesters, pervy teachers, and other creeps. I think the differences are that these crimes are reported/publicized much more freely in 'the west', and that there are more services available to help victims.

The Penn State case is disgusting. According to sworn testimony, Sandusky was caught in a shower room raping a 10 year old child. The person who saw him was a 28 year old, 6 foot 3, 230 pound former football player. His reaction? Turn and walk away. Left the child in that hellish situation. On reflection, the 28 year old decided the best course of action was to.... call his father. Unbelievable. It says a lot about the power of institutions like Penn State, and also about the emasculation of modern day men. Japan has it's "herbivore men", I guess other countries do too.

It's not surprising, given the Nork's past record in international relations. I'm not sure why North Korea is even allowed to join events like the World Cup- murderous dictatorships need to be isolated, boycotted, and ignored. It worked for South Africa, it would work for North Korea also.

I guess the Japanese government is afraid of domestic trouble from the NK Citizen's association here. Hence, they allow trade, allow money from pachinko to flow to Li'l Kim, and allow their citizens to be mistreated.

Being a Christian in a Muslim country is living on a razor's edge. Violence, arson, murder, are all tolerated against them. Egypt is no different.

Embassies are soveriegn territory. The host nation has the absolute responsibility to prevent this kind of action, regardless of cost. Allowing them to be invaded is tantamount to an invasion of the embassy's territory.

I thought embassies also had their own security personnel. American embassies generally have Marines to guard them- how about the Brits? It's embarrassing if the embassy's own security staff did nothing to prevent this despicable event.

Unfortunately, there will be no repercussions of any real consequence. The UK has emasculated their military to the point of impotence. They have no air/sealift capacity to speak of, no ability to project power independently. Their only options are to squak impotently, or ask Uncle Sugar to smack down the bully.

If you get married and never work, then yes chances are 4 years of liberal arts university education is wasted. The time would be better spent learning skills necessary to your life- cooking, cleaning, safe driving, basic financial planning, early childhood education, gardening, etc. A stay home parent needs a uni degree about as much as a cow needs flippers.
