    IMHO, a lot of problems in international marriage come from two issues;

a/ marrying a flag and not a person b/ not being able to communicate in one/both of your languages easily

The whole "exotic" factor should wear off after a few months of dating- if it doesnt, or your partner still is enthralled by it, beware. If anything, I married my wife in spite of her being Japanese, not because of it. Whatever small differences may be caused by culture or background are nothing compared to the huge differences between male and female!

We'll hit 20 years together next year, with a cool teenage son as a bonus.

Another example of a warmonger Democratic president putting US troops at risk, without congressional approval.

Yeah, it sounds like an oxymoron on the scale of "jumbo shrimp", "military intelligence" or "women's rights".

Perhaps it means that, if you are caught stealing, they will only cut off your finger instead of your entire hand.

*For example, I cannot stay in a regular business hotel without producing some ID (passport/Alien Card) - yet children are allowed into Love Hotels with dirty old men? *

Actually, that is not true. If you are a resident of Japan (have an address), you are not required to show ID for a hotel room. Just write your name and address on the registration card. If you are a tourist, different story. In that case, you are required. Hotels try to get away with copying the ID of foreign residents, but this is not necessary. You cannot be refused a room for refusing to allow the staff to see/copy your personal information.

As far as the law is concerned, citizen or non-citizen is irrelevant, as long as you have an address in Japan.

Creating a new world order... hahahahaha.

They can't even organize their own hygiene. Who would trust such people to create anything other than a mess and a racket?

If you have the TV, pay the NHK. Pretty simple. Don't be a freeloader.

If you disagree with the method of collection, then protest against that. I agree that door to door is ridiculous. Protest against it by paying at your bank, or having the fee withdrawn automatically from your bank account, as you would with any other bill.

The alternative is the government increasing your taxes and paying that way.

Canada just had a lovely case of Sharia in action.

A father (from Afghanistan) is accused of murdering his three teenage daughters because they dishonored the family. He also murdered their "aunt", who was actually his first wife. She was infertile, so he married a second wife and the whole lot came to Canada. He was quoted as saying, "I hope the devil sh##s on their graves" about his daughters.

If this is what you want, then by all means welcome Sharia.

I agree that it's not really important. Whoever wins the GOP nomination will probably be the next President anyway. I can't see Obama holding on unless he does a miracle for the economy. And that isn't going to happen. Even if his jobs bill passed, it would be a drop in the bucket. The system needs structural change, a drastic reduction in spending, and a change of attitude from the top down.

So, either the protesters are stinky hippies enjoying the chance for some weed and an anonymous shag, or they are ordinary folk who need a pint or three to wind down after a hard day of shouting.

In either case, what does the church have to do with it? Go protest at parliament, or the business district. I dont see the need to camp there. It's rude and inconsiderate.

Wow, the Germans must really be having "buyer's remorse" over hitching themselves to the whole EuroScheme. They are figuring out that, just because you live in the same neighbourhood with Greece, you don't necessarily want to share a checking account with them.

Time for a return to the DeutchMark.

Yes, SHaria is another religious code much like any other. The difference is that it is used as the main source of legal jurisprudence, and not as a historical artifact. Not too many countries are ruled by fundamentalist Christian teachings, but fundamentalist Islam IS the root of many nations' legal systems.

You want to see it in action, go to Saudi Arabia. Total mysogynist nightmare of a country. People are executed for witchcraft, rape victims are flogged, children are left to suffer and die in burning schools rather than being allowed to escape without their headcoverings.

Apostasy is a death penalty offense in many countries that suffer under sharia, as is homosexuality. As is "mocking" the prophet.

All I know is that if MY wife ever brought home KFC for Christmas dinner, she wouldn't be my wife come New Year's Day.

We'll do a nice roast of beef with mashed potatoes and gravy as usual.

Good to see the Greek government at least attempt to be responsible. Do these protester not know that a nation of 30 year old students and 50 year old retirees simply cannot function? Who's going to do the work?

They have spent their own money, maxed out their credit, and now want to spend their children's and grandchildren's money to support themselves. It's an incredibly selfish attitude.

I read an interesting quote about the Eurozone that may sum up the attitude of some of the players: "As the Germans have begun to figure out, just because the Greeks live in the same general neighborhood there is no reason to open a joint checking account."

I love how political discussions so quickly devolve into childish name calling and personal attacks on those with the temerity to disagree.

Yabits, if someone were to say that "Most Democrats are too far gone, lazy and deluded socialists who only want to steal what they were too lazy to create", what would you think?

It's too early to say whether or not Obama is the most incompetent. I DO think a lot of Democrats are having 'buyers remorse' over choosing him though. They voted for style over substance and got burned.

It amuses and saddens me that Christians and Muslims and Jews squabble and bicker when they all believe in the very same God, so the weakness of religion is that it puts ideals before people and can be divisive.

There is most probably some organized crime link in the whole mess somewhere. It always irritates me when people say, "oh, the Yakuza aren't so bad.... they give to charity and help their neighbourhoods" They ARE so bad, and cases like this may prove it.

It is a serious carpet bombing by Woodward if his allegations prove true. Moral of the story: don't let the gaijin see your company secrets unless you are planning on keeping him for a LONG time.

The mess started long before Bush. The age of crony capitalism has been on us for a while, but it was will hidden when economic times were better.

I can't imagine anything better than a Romney/Obama debate. It would be a slaughter- a man with years of experience in business and commerce taking a career politician to the woodshed.
