    Davidatokyo,

Animals being killed by other animals (which includes humans - we aren't aliens we were all born here too unless you can prove otherwise) is entirely natural.

Again, animals only kill for survival purposes. We do for recreation and pest control. Death is part of life only if it comes naturally, not brought upon. There's nothing natural about letting anyone kill any animal for any purpose they see fit. Killing a marine mammal like dolphin for pest control is infuriating to most people. And you will see, it will dissapear!

    Davidatokyo,

It has numerous benefits when compared with raising animals in captivity.

Can you enlighten us about those benefits?

You might like to note that Taiji's hunt last year saw it catch significantly less than the quota allocated to it by authorities.

What would be the reason for that? Could it be because there weren't enough to slughter?

Has anyone checked the J-Wiki article about dolphins? Am I the only one finding it amazing that they are accusing rest of the world, foolishly believing the dolphins are smart? It clearly says that the common belief of the dolphis being smart is false! Right below that, it recomends to eat them with soy sauce or goma (sesame).

    Burakumin,

BTW, calling them "fishermen" is incorrect - Dolphins are actually mammals (Check Wikipedia). Perhaps something was lost in translation of the article?

Great point! We should call them "killers of marine mammals".

    Keehar,

'I find it infuriating that one culture can feel that it's vastly superior to another and as such has the right to evangelize their own cultural viewpoint to the point where everybody is just like them'

This has nothing to do with one country being superior to another. If anything, I feel Japanese people are more superior to others, just because of the fact that they treat each other with respect like no other does. Low crime rate is great example to that.

It is a fact that rest of the world loves and respect dolphins, though they lack the kindness toward each other. We are not demanding, we are asking please, not to kill the animal that we love and respect so much. Many, who saw those slaughter videos in youtube could not hold their tears. Some are infuriated that in this day and age, developed and kind nation like Japan, would have no problem with this slughter.

Makkun, Cultures indicating brutal practices have always been critisized in human history. This is not only against Japan. But it is true, if a country as developed and civil as Japan does something like slaugthering animal like dolphin, it draws even more critisizm. But this is Japan for crying out loud. They can teach rest of the he world about how we should be treating each other with respect and dignity. They are regarded as one of the smartest people, making electronics, cars and leader in green technology. Whole world has shocked to see how can a people as kind and considerate as Japanese, doesn't mind slughtering smartest animals on earth. How can this brutality and world famous kindness can exist in same place?

Makkun, "That" is not just any other thing. It's slaughtering the most intelligent animal on earth. These Japanese fisherman does not want to acknowledge this fact. Even if we prove that they are as smart as us, they won't care. Their primary goal is not to make food out of dolphins, but to kill them for pest control, because they believe the dolphins are responsible of declining fish stocks. We protest that this is very cruel treatment for smartest animal on earth.

Interesting fact I stumbled upon searching dolphins in Wikipedia English and Japanese versions. English version of Wikipedia has great coverage and lots of facts about social life and culture of dolphins, while Japanese Wiki is openly denying any claims of them being smart, and talking about what kind of sauce goes well with eating dolphin meat. Are our cultures really this much different? Why we love these creatures so much while Japanese has no regard for their life and intelligence. Do they don't know or just don't care?

What has him being musician has anything to do with this crime? Why do they always have to mention criminals proffesions? If he was a teacher or something, it'd be understandable, but him playing sax has nothing to do with his sexual interests.

Which, after the death of that girl and his lies to the prosecutors, would be an outright disgrace.

Don't think so. He had nothing to do with the death of the hostess.

This is a sign of the brutal treatment of J-cops that even other J-cops run away from it, knowing the treatment they will get.

She said "I want to die!" during the questioning. What if she commits suicide as soon as they let her free. It would be the drugs that killed her right?

I don't know who to blame here. Media is making this much fuss because they think ppl wants to hear more. And Police is just following law. But this is a brutal treatment no matter what. Leave her alone!!

I think this also has to do bit with what country you live in. If it's US, surely all should be free to wear that they want to. But if it's a country like Turkey, which has been fighting protect secularism, it make sense to ban religious veils and headscarfs for women in schools and government buildings.

Posted in: In some countries, there is a ban on adults and children wearing religious clothing and symbols such as burqas, veils, head scarves, skullcaps, turbans and crucifixes in public places like schools, recreational facilities and so on. What's your stance?

And for the record, it's only a gateway drug because it's available in same place that other hard drugs are available. If it's legalized, most of those drug dealers will not be able to survive. Even terrorist organizations will have to find other ways to finance their wars. Worlwide legalization of pot can save the world.

Yes! and here's just one of the reason why. http://blogs.reuters.com/great-debate/2009/07/23/driven-to-drink-by-marijuana-laws/ Another reason is that this is a plant sent by god for us to enjoy. I don't think anyone has right to restrict it. I understand that it shouldn't be consumed in public places or advertised. Only the ones with license should be allowed to consume. License taking should include mandatory training, just like the drivers license. How about yearly health checks? Anyone who has tried it knows that it's no big deal. It doesn't make you see hallucinations, or make you do stupid stuff, any more than alcohol does. Look at Dutch? They are not having any problem with it. They are now trying to restrict the tobacco you can add because it's damaging. Are they crazy? I think opposite. Law must be changed to protect innocent people from getting their lives ruined.

Sf2k, I never accused Canadians for eating seal meat, but according to the site sent by JoelR points that they are hunted for their meat, fur and so on. My point is Canada itself doesn't need this resource to richen themselves. If Canadian PM is eating the meat to show support for the killers of seals, that I have a problem with. Inuit should be allowed to hunt only for their consumption, not exporting and making money out of it.

BARBARIC!!! They are going backwards in time. Especially in a mixed country like that. There's no happy ending for this people. It should be an international law to seperate religion and state.

Let her out now and apologize for the brutal treatment and all the pain and suffering they have caused her!!
Law was invented to stop people from doing wrong to each other. Who did she hurt? or caused inconvenience? I'm ashamed to be ruled with stupid laws like this. If there's no victim, there's no problem. She has been doing fine until police and media ruined her life. Drugs are not powerful enough to do that.

People know how to take care of themselves. Most people will quit drugs if they realize their lives are going down the drain. Only 1% ends up ruining their lives with drugs. And they probably didn't think it was precious from the beginning.

JoelR, thanks for the information. But to me, the whole page looks like a desperate attempt to justify animal cruelty.
Here's the reason why they are hunted, according to this source.
** Seals have been hunted for food, fuel, shelter, fur and other products for hundreds of years. ** It's one thing for Inuits to do it for survival, another for developed nation like Canada do it and try to justify it as they need the seal meat. To make fuel out of them? Use them as shelter? Wear their fur? Just because it's been done for 100 years, doesn't justify why it needs to be done today. We may have been eating each other 100 years ago too. Desperate times bring desperate measures. If Canadians were dying of hunger, you might have a point. But they are not!
