    McCain is going down.

    On another note, I am happy to see Sarah Palin the Republican VP candidate. Palin spells the end of the Republican cohesiveness. Palins position as VP illustrates that the Republican Guard have, as I have pointed out over the past years, taken over the party.

    The lunatics are in charge of that Party.

    Everytime Palin goes out there, everyone can see on full display how the anti-intellectual, anti-elite, anti-science, ant-Liberal (with a capital L) populist Right has turned against Washington and Wall Street. The Republican alliance is shattered.

    Palin's ascendancy marks how the Republicans have turned themselves primarily into a regional party.

    Obama's and the Democrats current lead in Virginia is reflective of the larger demographic trends in America,

    And Republicans, with their entrenchment to the white Right, show how they are on the wrong side of the demographic trends in America.

    Ironic that the Right, who reject evolution, are falling prey to one of its lesson's: Yesterdays advantage can turn to today's burden. Just like the Mamoth's oversized tusks. The Republican stranglehold on small town conservatisim has turned out to be small town conservatism's stranglehold on the party.

    We are on the verge of a new Center/Left Coalition. The Reagan Revolution has run its course.

    Right into a ditch.

    I agree. To the extent that capitalism provides us with certain tools to, in the end,* "form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity."*

    I think it is important to note that our form of capitalism is not the only one. We come from one of the two main schools the Liberal Capitalist school. There is the German school, the one that Japan basically uses, y'know State Managed Capitalism.

    Which the neo=classical Chicago School ideologues -- who have taken over our country and whose acolytes are largely responsible for our current mess -- dismiss as 'socialism."

    Which it is not.

    Its managed capitalism.

    On another note:

    We went to sleep Friday night with pigs and lipstick and woke up yesterday to find that Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch no longer exist, A.I.G. stock lost 60% of its value. By the time we went to bed last night the Dow dropped 500 points. And Greenspan telling us our economy may be in a 'once-in-a-century' crisis.

    The economy is back. Here is a good read on the impact for this fall

    The number one issue now will be: "How are you going to fix this mess and prevent a repetition?"

    Faith that the market solves everything. Faith that stocks and housing will always rise. Faith that we can borrow for ever, as individuals and as a nation, faith that we can outgrow today's debt with tomorrows growth, and faith the the dollar will always be the reserve currency for the planet, and therefor we can print as many as we want.

    I understand the gist of your post and find myself in overall agreement.

    Your statement "I believe in capitalism," I find revealing. The last time I checked, capitalism was an economic (and political system), not a belief system.

    Now I realize you probably used it just as a turn of phrase, but I think its important to recall that a lot of the reason why we are in this economic mess that we are is because too many started thinking of capitalism as a belief system, as a religion as it were. And this led these people, these Republicans, to spread a bunch of nonsense about no regulation, low taxes and so forth.

    And it was all ok, because people had Faith.

    Republican brazenly tell out-and-out lies.

    In the past, politicians would shade the truth a bit and if they were caught, would stop. No longer.

    Straight Talking Mccain says Obama's gonna d raise everyone's taxes, even though the Democrat's tax plan exempts families that earn less than $250,000. But a poll taken Sept. 5-7 shows that 51% of the voters thought Obama would raise their taxes. Republican strategist John Feegery said: "these little facts don't really matter."

    Little Facts Don't really matter. What matter's to Straight Talking McCain is trying to exploit the long-standing Republican theme that Democrats raise taxes and Obama's promise to raise taxes only on the rich is an unimportant detail that can be safely ignored.

    In the past the press called candidates to order when they lied. Not any more.

    Now the press is very democratic towards the truth; it gives each side equal time, even if one is brazenly lying.
