What I want to know is when TEPCO leaders, who could have spared all radiation releases early on in the initial hours of the crisis but instead chose to preserve assets by not flooding the reactors with sea water, will face criminal prosecution?

And how about the underemployed and/or those who stopped looking altogether? I suspect that would bring things up "a bit".....

If the two reactors are started BEFORE summer, then they can "prevent" blackouts this summer. But...what if they waited to start them to see if there is an electricity shortage...and there isn't one? Then the need for all 54 reactors comes in to question.....So start them now. Sounds logical to me....

"Ash produced by the incineration is safe. The radioactivity measured in the ash is 133 becquerels per kilogram, which is lower than the temporary level set for food, so there is no danger and no need to worry"....You know, when a contagious patient enters a hospital that patient is isolated so as not to spread the infection to others....Why on earth is radioactive debris being spread through the country?....

The real issue here is what is the role of government and elected officials. Bureaucrats make policy decisions here but are not elected. Elected officilals are involved in implementing decisions....both have a duty to be honest and transparent, particularly in situations of a life-threatening nature. At the same time, mass evacuation of Tokyo ( even if possible) would have led to a potential collapse of the economy. So for the survival of the nation, they made the right decision....individuals be damned. Final point: what gives officials the right to decide for the citizenry what is in their own best interests?

The point is, when faced with the challenge of saving a nation, there will always be sacrificial lambs. If cancer rates increase in the future, linking them to radiation will be impossible. So given the "all clear" to proceed. why not "burn baby burn"?

Is this the same Tokyo government that made the decision to accept debris BEFORE asking the people of Tokyo to approve it? Oh....it is. How about letting Tokyo volunteers observe the testing process? Maybe that would help restore the broken trust....
