LDP and DPJ are basically the same old boys club

Transparency - the bureaucracy here is crazy so it will br great if they follow through on that policy.

PR = Permanent Resident - but why should that give you dual nationality?

For PR I would like to see the vote in local elections - then I might be bothered to get it.

Posted in: For you personally, what changes would you like to see the new DPJ government bring about in Japan?

I don't know why the LDP and DPJ don't just merge - they are to all intents and purposes the same.

DPJ would get my vote simply for not using the speaker wagons in my area - been quite a quiet campaign really.

Also I find some of the campaigning weird. Yesterday at a matsuri I had to keep refusing leaflets from campaign staff - hello I am a white westerner!!!! Also a party turned up in a hurry and started handing out leaflets - it took my Japanese friend several minutes reading to determine which party it was!

They now go after bar staff for serving people they know are going to drink and drive why not apply the same sort of logic to this scenario and go after the pachinko parlours.

The man, who had an enlarged heart, chronic heart failure and diabetes as underlying diseases

Sorry but this is like a cancer patient being reported of dying of pneumonia - jst the thing that tipped him over the edge.

I believe that more people so far have died of regular flu this year than this one. The thing is this one spreads faster but (at the moment) symptoms seem to be weaker and recovery quicker - unless there are underlying complications as this guy.

Whilst no death is good let's keep it real and in perspective please.

that's going to screw with them! the average Japanese seems to take more hand-luggage than a western family of 4 would put in the hold...

This is all about US what about Japan?

I expect the Royalty Police here don't let it happen. 4 or 5 years ago you used to see those devices here but they disappeared - and don't tell me they want to read books on a keitei, that's crazy talk

They guy is dying why make the British tax payer pay for his medical care when he can go home and receive none?

I am pretty sure he would have been more comfortable (medically speaking) in the UK than in Libya.

The thing that surprises me most is that the US gets on it's high horse about being a Christian country yet very rarely displays any Christian values when it comes to things like compassion. Double standards I say.

The thing that upset me the most was what a bore that minister was extending his 15 minutes of fame.

The lawmakers said the clunkers program has led to a scarcity of certain fuel-efficient vehicles, and reduced production levels have made it difficult for car companies to replenish their inventories

Isn't one of the aims of this program to help the car manufacturers and get them gearing up their production lines again? It's good to see the Americans finally moving away from their gas guzzlers but you can not expect a production and delivery system to suddenly switch on like a light - it takes time to get moving.

I would like it to go further and say they have to buy hybreds - I know this advantages the Japanese companies but then maybe Ford and GM et al would take these cars more seriously.

    sorry it's even more crazy!

I googled Dormy Inn and can only find a homepage in English for their Korean site which is in English and takes bookings in English.

I did not bother looking beyond the first page of results on google.

How to market to foreigners? Well they have an English homepage but can't take bookings in English - how half arsed is that?

Better luck with the Chinese and don't forget the Koreans

unveiled plans on Thursday to do away with the proprietary software on its electronic Sony Reader and convert its e-book store to an industry standard format

just talking to a friend last night about the problem with Sony is that it sticks to it's propriety formats - hooray!

But will they go on sale in Japan again?

They've just trippled my health insurance at a guess based on last years salary where I was employed. I guess they will miss out on future tax revenues from me as enough is enough - I'm out of here!

LDP has trashed this country for years looking after the old farts in power. I really pity any Japanese unemployed here - at least I can get out of here. When I went to the tax office last week they ended up saying I should be a politician in Japan as I made so much sense - but I can't even vote!

Will the DPJ be any better? Probably not - they are after all mostly ex-LDP as far as I can tell.

World recession, travel industry hard hit - I know let's put on a helicopter service to get to the airport!

I guess there are still some who use a taxi and this might appeal to them but I would be surprised if it is popular at the moment
