Another no brainer survey - with the yen as it is and the global recession go figure that occupancy rates are down.
Nice to hear some hotels are starting to think about incentives.
For those Japanese with some money why would they waste it on domestic travel when they can get much better value for money holidaying outside of Japan?

that's a shame - someone telling Americans the secrets so now there will be no SIMs to rent at the airports in Europe :-(
When I bought my last AU phone the lady tried to "help" me by offering me a global phone so I could use it abroad and when I told her what I do (pretty much described above) she was amazed and thought it was a great idea!

OK - now I see it.
No don't think they need to pay for that. Won't be using it though - much prefer the selected news sources that I use now

sounds fair and reasonable that they should share the advertising revenues
they obviously did not advertise this, however, as I had never heard of the google news site

but why do foreigners and a lot of Japanese for that matter go with Softbank?
I was out with two guys last night both with their iPhones trying to contact another mate with, you got it, an iPhone and they could not connect with each other.
The softbank coverage is dismal. First and foremost a phone should work as a phone - the rest is gold plating.
Don't get me wrong - I have no problem with Apple products, in fact I am a fan, but Softbank on the other hand...

I can't find it now but there is also a sliding scale on the wear and tear side of the deposits. Last year I moved out of a house that I had been in for over 5 years and I think legally they could have only held back something like 20% of the deposit.
The cleaning fees were written into the contract so not a lot I could do there but it was about 100,000 for a 100sqm house - our moving fees were actually cheaper than that!!!!
Full refund minus cleaning fees - result!

wow - teachers in my school would never have been paid!
I'm just amazed they still use chalk. My son's school has a touch pad whiteboard linked up to the computer. Very hi-tech and not seen it in any company I've visited

herfornow - sorry you are missing the point. In London I did not go supermarket shopping in the West End, I did not live in Knightsbridge etc.
I guess one problem is in London the green stuff is largely in central Londond but then the countryside is so near if you live in the suburbs - guess what same here for the latter.
The thing I miss most about London is how easy it was to get out of the UK - the airport question. Let's hope they open up Haneda more to international flights, but a new terminal first please!
Overall the standard and quality of life in Tokyo is much better than London

As a Londoner living int Tokyo for 8+ years give me Tokyo any day.
If you stick to the ex-pat havens in Minato-ku then you are going to get ripped off - same as going shopping or to restaurants in the West End.
When I was ex-pat though I was once shown the "shopping basket" and it was laughable. To guage the cost of sports they had the price of tennis balls and golf balls but not the cost of trying to get a game of either :-)
And yes there is plenty of green - again get out of minato-ku

In my experience you are asked to sign a contract or agreement somewhere that says company email is not to be used for private email usage. Most companies will turn a blind eye to occasional usage but they have every right to monitor and control company resources.
After all you can always access your email from your keitei

perhaps people should stop feeding them in the parks then. I was walking through one setagaya park the other day and saw a man feeding about a dozen stray cats.
Almost as bad as the twit I saw feeding the crows!!!
Moderator: All readers back on topic please. The subject is the killing of these cats, not what you think about cats or crows.
