This is a Japanese hamburger restaurant with traditional touches.”... The avocado and pineapple burgers

    sounds really Japanese.

I wonder why there are so many "gourmet" burger restaurants in Setagaya-ku?

10-year personal loan of 8.2 million yen, at 7.9% interest, which he used to consolidate his debt.

A similar loan from a consumer credit company would have charged double the interest.

A loan with an interest rate of 7.9% is still outrageous in a country where the base interest rate is for intents and purposes zero - but good to see someone is trying and hopefully it spreads.

Most of the other 48% probably voted for the other guy because they have always voted that way following party lines...

And for the record I am leaving Japan and if my home country does not have this and I get a chance to vote on it I would support foreign permanent residents on the right to vote in local elections, if they don't already have it that is!

as others have said or go the Japanese way and completely ignore the laws and medical advice and let them roam around the car at will.

My child is very good at sitting in his seat but when we give some of his friends a lift the parents can't (or won't) understand why I will not start until they are strapped down. Not only would the child be killed in a car accident but they could well take me with them if they are flying around lose in the car - no thanks!

And as to common sense Lesoy - yes but you are forgetting the Japanese way. When I first bought a car there was no law about belting up in the back. When I asked my wife too she told me that it was safe otherwise there would be law to make you belt up!

I think this is a badly worded question.

I think permanent residents in a foreign country should have the right to vote in "local" elections but not national ones.

Japan has argued that signing the convention may not protect Japanese women and their children from abusive foreign husbands.

I know a case where it is the Japanese farther that disappeared with the two children leaving the foreign mother in the lurch.

Also let's not forget Japanese wives can be abusive too - very weak argument for not signing the Hague convention

good job Obama - just when a recovery of sorts is starting you put the skids on it!

Yes I agree some more regulation is required but to shoot from the hip without thinking it all through is just plain madness. And the UK opposition coming in with comments about they have the same idea - guess they just lost the City vote...

How many of you out there would still have your job if caught napping in the middle of it ?

I've been in many meetings where the Japanese staff use it as an opportunity to catch up on some sleep - it is the norm here...

When I did my driving license renewal most of the room was asleep or doing other activities during the 2 hour "education" - they all got their licenses

was having this conversation just today. I hear his popularity is plummeting but had he come into power at just about any other time in history it would probably not be the way. He inherited a right mess from the shrub and people are crazy if you think you can turn that round in a year.

However, his new bank tax is a bit dubious...

Wake up Japan - the ban is so that the species can survive. If it is wiped out then you will not be able to eat it EVER! If the stocks recover then it will become available again....

It's got nothing to do with Americans eat meat and Japanese eat fish.

I need to read up on this on a more credible publication but...

Banks that have already paid the loans back or did not take them in the first place have to pay? This just sounds wrong!

Let's also not forget that people pay tax on bonuses already and these big payouts are for a very small minority of bank employees...

the ironic thing is that this almost sounds like something the Japanese bureaucracy would come up with....
