I don't see why permanent residents in any country can't vote in local elections.

When I went into the ward office to discuss if it was possible to defer my tax payments as I am unemployed at the moment they were so impressed with my arguments and logic they said that I should stand for election! And when I said that I can't even vote here they looked embarrassed considering my tax bill for last year!

National elections is another matter and that should be for citizens only.

They would be crazy to arrest him and give this more publicity. Wait - we are talking about the J Police, guess he will get his publicity :-)

I guess this is meant to be the first legal 3 seater since the law changed? If not why do we care - but the Japanese don't anyway as you see 3 seaters all the time

Yes the mother is an idiot, but she is just one person out of a population of 130 million. So how do you posters come to your inane conclusion that she is in anyway representative of the Japanese people?

Because we live here and see it every day. No doubt a reconstruction of this will be used in the driving license renewal videos in the future and I hope they are covering this on the Japanese news.

When I first started driving my wife around and she was in the back seat looking after the baby she would not wear her seat belt saying that if it was not law it must be safe. Then they introduced the law - but in the mean time I would not drive with her sitting behind me unbelted.

I am amazed at the lack of enforcement of the rear seat belt law in this country. I hope they get fined for not wearing their belt.

We have a friend who is paranoid about her 5yo son dieing of swine flu yet drives around with her son standing between the drivers seat and the passenger seat - plain dumb!

Nearly half occurred between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., during the morning rush

And what proportion of that is false accusations or misunderstanding in the trains that are so packed you can hardly breath?

I hope the driver of the car that swerved to avoid another breaking car and killed this man is prosecuted for manslaughter as that is what this is.

Also for people like this the police should have the power to take away his driving license for good.

Rogge said past votes have been won due to “charismatic bid leaders who really put their stamp” on the process

    so that's Tokyo stuffed then.

Maybe some foreigners don't want it to come to Tokyo, but I don't know if the Japanese necessarily agree with that

The IOC findings a couple of weeks ago highlighted the lack of public support in Tokyo being one of the poor points for the Tokyo bid. The foreigners don't care because most of use won't be here in 2016

My vote would be for Rio - have some nerve IOC

come on - it brightens up our day to read the rubbish on the adverts and t-shirts as we attempt to work out what the heck they me.

Top awards go to the large breasted women I have seen wearing T-shorts with slogans across the chest such as: Lunch Made You Stare Milk

The most bizarre one was a business woman I once saw wearing a sequin covered T-Shirt and vaguely camouflaged in sequins across her back was "f***er" - what the heck was that about?

But I also like the reverse stories about Japanese tattoo artists abroad not exactly giving the client what they want but telling them they have what they wanted!!!!

    Works bot ways

I have owned at least two phones that are 1 seg capable and never used it.

Best thing about my iphone is that I can listen to my music on my bluetooth head phones and it will interrupt the play so I can take a call. When I end the call the music starts again - fantastic!

The problem with the iPhone in Japan is not the product but the carrier. I wanted to go with the Android phone but was over-ruled by the misses as all her friends are on softbank so calls would be cheaper

nothing that was not said in the run up - but they wanted change and it was the only viable option, though I doubt how much of a change it really is

finally made the move to iphone (though I own iPods too) this week - slightly under duress. But what I can say is that Softbank is pretty much out of stock so obviously selling well.

Also many other phones have music playback facilities so why bother with normal MP3 players these days?

    don't get excited Sony:

The current line of iPods is on its last legs, lending more evidence that an iPod refresh is just around the corner. Sources from Apple Authorized Resellers have confirmed to Ars that current stock is dwindling (if not completely gone in some cases) and that no more of the current models are coming in. Additionally, all current SKUs are being discontinued, with no word on when new models may arrive.

They are expected to announce new models next week....

The lead actor is Tom Cruise, of course. Why? Because I know he was Japanese in a previous life.

Given that he was why would he recognise her? She was obviously a fruit cake in her previous life!

It's out and they are sitting on the fence! But:

However, the Japanese capital's "relatively low" public support for the 2016 Games - just 55.5% of Tokyo residents backed the bid in the poll conducted by the IOC in February - was a concern

So they did not see through the staged event in the park where 5,000 school kids just happened to be on a "field trip" at the same time as the IOC inspection....
