I'm glad I don't drink coffee. I've got better things to drink that bitter brown water ... for ¥400.

This just proves to all those people a while back who accused the Japanese of being irresponsible vandals that the Japanese are far more responsible than the rest of the world (in general, not always).

    Uh, in what way?

Although you infuriate the rest of us with your butchering of the **English **language, I would like to congratulate our American cousins on their Independence Day.

It's my favorite day of the year! :)

I would like to make it an event where artists can cross borders

Sure, we'll just need your two index fingers and a photo before you cross them

My ticket to the US this summer is a whopping ¥260,000 with the #$%& surcharge. Christ on a trike that's taking it up the rear pure and simple. Especially since it's JAL economy, not 1960s Pan Am.

Salaries these days aren't exactly going up, how do they expect a gaijin to survive?

So I ask again, what do I pay taxes for? What does the government do to deserve my money?

http://www.japantoday.com/category/top-in-category/view/jal-ana-consider-cutting-flights-to-kansai but they want to buy lots of big, expensive planes? Who do they expect to ride on those planes?

I still don't understand how/why the Japanese have accepted him. Is it because he's part Japanese? Because he's kuo-ta-?

I'd say the random mass murder of a number of innocent clerical workers on the first floor of a government building would be just as bad as a random stabbing.

While I'm not for murder, government workers these days pretty goddamn stupid. I'd hardly call them "innocent".

I went to school with a number of "graf" artists. They justified putting pieces on building and tagging everywhere by saying it was "art". Talk about immature - losers have nothing better to do than scribble on walls and piss everyone off?

“To anyone who voted for me and is now considering not voting or voting for Senator McCain, I strongly urge you to reconsider,” she said.

Good idea. I'm not going to vote for ANYONE because what's the point? Neither of the two candidates now are going to do anything to change things.

So AA is actually planning on flying its planes now?

All joking aside, this will be cool ... for people flying AA and long-distance. My average flight with them is 2 hours. That's too short for me, especially to fork out $10 for.

American plans to charge $9.95 to $12.95 for Internet service, depending on flight length.

A few years back Boeing had an in flight internet service called Connexion. I used it on JAL going back and forth over the Pacific and it was $20 for 24 hours of usage. Surfing the interweb was a great way to kill time on an ordinarily boring flight. I would imagine if AA isn't too greedy or stupid (cough cough) then they'll price theirs similarly (or watch it die.)

What I'm wondering is, Boeing pulled the plug on their service because of lack of interest. Why does AA suddenly think it will work?

Some of you, in fact, may have been lucky enough to receive a “welcome wagon” from friendly locals, which helps to get you and your family acclimated to life in the new community.

Nope. I got a "you're the next kumicho. Grass cutting is next saturday at 9am."

This furoshiki thing sounds cool. I could have used this and the support when I first got here.

Read the Wikipedia article on him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsutomu_Miyazaki

In July, 2006, he wrote to monthly magazine Tsukuru and called capital punishment “an inhuman criminal act.” He said: “It must be ghoulish when the trapdoor opens and I drop through it. Every prisoner is forced to feel terror after being told of their execution by prison staff on the day, which is inhuman.”

Killing children is "an inhuman criminal act". I hope they kept his hood off when they opened that trap door- he deserved to see what was coming.
