That would veer off topic. There is so much information out there for young, curious minds. You dont need some guy off the internet teaching you about Imperialism in Asia or the Tournament of Shadows (look it up, you would like it).

Well, you dont know me or anything about my academic background - so not sure why you would cast such an aspersion.
Nobody would deny that the Middle East has not had a long and fractious past. But to say that the US has only been involved in the region for 30 years is to be very uninformed.
Correct. Iran has land-based missiles that could secure the Strait. America would need to launch a major boots on the ground invasion that would make Iraq look like a summer stroll. Going to be a very expensive exercise.

????
The CIA overthrew the Syrian government in 1948, overthrew the democratically elected Mosaddeq government of Iran in 1953, involved themselves in the Suez crisis, the Six Day War, helped make Saddam Hussein the leader of Iraq in 1968 and helped murder thousands of civilians in Black September. The US involvement in the Middle East is long and bloody.

The please enlighten me and the rest of the world as to why.
Well, Iran does agree to IAEA observation under the terms of the NPT. The IAEA carried out inspections in Iran in August and November 2011. As a signatory, Iran is allowed to enrich uranium to a certain capacity. Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano hailed Iran as a "peace-seeking" state last week.

Is Israel really under threat though? Israel not only has nuclear weapons but the American tax payer has just gifted Israel with a missile defence shield in case of any attack. While hundreds of thousands of Americans get by on food stamps and have their houses foreclosed, Israel gets a missile defence system that it doesnt need.

When they get pushed into a corner, they will take desperate measures. Plus, it will hurt the rest of the world too. Not only does Irans oil go through the Strait but also does Iraqs, Saudi Arabias, UAE and Kuwaits.
This will lead to a big jump in oil prices, which will further hurt the American economy and Obamas re-election hopes. Dangerous times we are living in.

Well, that was the whole point of my comment. And I dont understand why it isnt discussed. If the money isnt good enough, I dont want to waste their time or mine on a 2nd interview. That isnt arrogance, that is just the way of the market. Companies want a commitment out of you and start talking about when they want you to start but still wont broach the subject of pay. I realise this article is about grad students but my issue was just something else that annoyed me in interviews.

The other problem is when you already have a job but you check out jobs that you are interested in. When you start quizzing the employer about the job they look at you like you have just asked them for a kidney. How long do employees usually last here? What is the best thing about working here? Is there ongoing training? And of course after a lot of smiling and nodding the big one has to come out - Can I ask about remuneration? The jaws start hitting the desks - like you were lucky to be even given a call back.
If you want to employ someone who already has a job, you have to sell them the job and a big part of it is salary. I am not going to walk out on a job only to find out the new one pays half as much, there is so much bitterness in the workplace and I am not allowed to take the holidays owed to me.

Love Jetstar - and haters gonna hate.
For me Jetstar is a flying shinkansen. Sit down, read your book and if you want a snack, give the staff a few bucks. How hard is that? I dont expect to be treated like royalty when I pay $700 for a return flight to the Goldie and frankly I dont want to be.
Japan needs these cheap fares so that people will get away from their stupid tour groups with their stupid little hats and flags and start seeing the world like other tourists do.
I paid 30000 Yen for a return flight to Manila in Golden Week with Jetstar and I dont have to use any of my holidays. Nice! And coincidently, it is the same price as a return trip by shinkansen Osaka-Tokyo.

Incredibly true. If you can answer people where you are from, you get a "jouzu!!" if you warn your nieghbour not to park his car in your space anymore or you will start inviting his teenage daughter over for "coffee" - nary a compliment.

Get the feeling that you arent.
Part of Japans problem, as well as the rest of the western world is that being a low to medium level salary man working in an airconditioned sweatshop is seen somehow as superior to being a qualified tradesman, manufacturing worker or farmer. That is until you start working 60 hour weeks or getting transferred to Saitama an leaving your family behind.

Oh! Can you? What insight you must have!
A 62 year old woman at 10:30 on a wintery Saturday night on narrow Japanese streets, hit by 3 cars travelling together - the lead car driven by a young man. Gee, that sounds like her fault.
What have I missed?
