Sad story for both the driver and the parents. The kindy my kids used to go to opened up straight onto a main road with no footpath. I would never let my kids out of grasp until they got into our car. However, as much as I hate to say it, the Japanese parents were far less careful and there was a kid hit by a car there last year. He wasn't killed, so it didn't make the news. And, of course, the kindy has done nothing about changing the entrance to make it safer for the kids and the parents still let their kids run out the door unaccompanied. I feel mostly for the driver. I know the article does not give any real details, but I also know how careless and carefree Japanese parents can be with their toddlers.

Gees! Take it easy honey. It's only lunch time. - I doubt if this guy's intentions were to kill her, but no doubt he let loose with a large dose of spent up emotion in his attack.

Radioactive rain? Yeah, we all read the warnings about it. But, rain falls over a very wide area, which would leave one to believe there is a lot more radiation in that area and many other areas too. One of my friends took readings at his place in Ibaraki and got extremely high readings in the street gutters and, the roof of his house and certain areas of his garden where rainwater collects. He and his family now live back in Oz. Obviously, the spread of radiation is much greater than the news is reporting and I dare say these 'hot spots' are gonna start popping up more often as more members of the public buy there own radiation detectors.

Personally, I find this image refreshing and lighthearted. However, to me lingerie is a waste of money cos from my experience, it is only ever worn for less than five minutes at a time. :D

Ha! Yeah, easy to read, for sure, but understanding why it happened is quite difficult. What the heck is wrong with these people? Nearly every day you read about someone snapping and taking to others with a knife. Yesterday it was a carpenter attacking his neighbor with a hatchet. Is everyone so strung out the only reaction they have is to kill someone? Shees!!!

It is quite ironic that Samsung make of the components for Apple machines. Regardless of this case, it won't stop me buying Apple products. Anyone who bashes Macs has never used one.

I have to sympathize with the Japanese a little on this one. They have been faced with an unprecedented task and have no idea what to do about it. Yeah, they are naive and, to a certain extent, ignorant, but shutting down these reactors is not like turning off a toaster. Sadly, there have been many offers from international agencies to help shut down this debacle, but they have been refused. The French wanted to send 20 specialists in to shut down the plant, but the were denied. The radiation is contained to a specific area and it has been evacuated. Of course, there are hot spots triggering hysteria within the society, but if you are outside the exclusion zone you are not in danger of contracting any form of radiation sickness. You may be exposed to a small amount of radiation from different sources, but it is not dangerous. The risk is higher having two or three X-rays a year.

l always ask my students if they know their neighbor's names and only one out of ten would say yes, and usually only cos they read it on their mail box. Japan is a nation of 130 million strangers, 30% of which have some sort of mental or emotional disorder. It is wise to meet your neighbors just to be sure you are not living next to a psycho like this loon.

It's weird that people straight away assume that the only people coming into Japan are westerners. News flash! Only 20% of tourists and immigrants are westerners. Most are from other Asian countries.
