Ozawa testifies he knew nothing of how his campaign fund was managed

I remember a judge telling me some thirty odd years ago that ignorance is not an excuse. Good luck Ozawa!

The NPA said the three disaster-hit prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima actually saw a decline in the number of people who took their own lives, compared to 2010.

These prefectures also saw a decline in their overall population. Could that be related to the results?

ihope2eatwhales - whale research has been undertaken in both the north pacific and southern ocean for many years. Gathering suitable data to help facilitate the commercial whaling resumption is an important objective in both cases, of course.

You didn't finish the statement! Their research showed there are not sufficient numbers of whales left in the northern pacific to hunt whales commercially, hence their trips down south.

My guess would be the whale was hit by a ship. Fin whales are the slowest of the whales and are somewhat 'donkusai'. :D

ReformedBasher - As a tax-paying Australian resident, I take offense at this. Please DON'T waste MY valuable tax dollars on this rot.

Well, I am an Australian residing on Japan and I take offense to my taxes and tsunami relief donations being used to support the so-called, 'research'. Does that make us even?

As an Aussie resident you should be quite pissed by the fact that, the last two PMs have made election promises of stopping this farce and here we are, five years later and still no resolution what-so-ever!

Investigating officers told the press that the windows in the room were shut and that the employees had forgotten to switch on the extractor fans. Without a ventilation system in the room, police believe a build up of carbon monoxide is likely to have occurred.

    My comment is, "No comment!"

John Constantine - I would think that a 35 year old having sex with a 15 year old would be the issue and that paying for it would be a secondary issue.

Why do you say that? Is it the age difference that bothers you? Or, the fact the girl is a minor. - My Mrs is nearly 20 years younger than me, but she is not a teenager either.

The National Police Agency said Friday it had instructed all officers to memorize the names and physical features of criminals on the wanted list.

Um, yeah, OK! They are too busy remembering bicycle registrations to worry about anyhing else.

Eh? New legislation to ensure safeguards are in place? does that mean there were no previous legislations for that purpose?

pamelot - exercising her right granted in the second amendment to The Constitution, contained in The Bill of Rights, that gives its citizenry the right to bear arms.

And, in the fine print it reads: You also have the right to blow the head off an intruder.

YongYang - I regularly see old guys drink driving. I've even seen them sitting in their cars at a combini chugging down a chu-hi before they drive off. It seems, in this case, the young people of Japan are more responsible than the older ones. However, I do agree with your sentiment of punishment. If you kill someone while driving drunk in Australia the charge is manslaughter and carries up to a 20 year sentence, plus the driving infringements.

A bit of a new year wake up call! It is a good new year reminder to check your earthquake survival kit. I was at the door ready to go with my earthquake kit in hand.

Yeah, I agree there should be some reflection of the the events of this year, but the number of people killed by the tsunami is only 2/3 of the amount of people that kill themselves in Japan every year. That is something to not reflect on.

And, December 21, 2012 will be the end of the world. So, if there is anything you really need to do you should do it soon! :P

It's odd that in these threads and the article SS are referred to as activists and environmental terrorists, yet in international newspapers they are referred to as whale crusaders.

It"S ME - Ditto for the "Steve Irwin", etc did they get permission from the estate?

Are you serious? Or, is this just a rhetorical question?
