You didn't finish the statement! Their research showed there are not sufficient numbers of whales left in the northern pacific to hunt whales commercially, hence their trips down south.
My guess would be the whale was hit by a ship. Fin whales are the slowest of the whales and are somewhat 'donkusai'. :D

Well, I am an Australian residing on Japan and I take offense to my taxes and tsunami relief donations being used to support the so-called, 'research'. Does that make us even?
As an Aussie resident you should be quite pissed by the fact that, the last two PMs have made election promises of stopping this farce and here we are, five years later and still no resolution what-so-ever!

Why do you say that? Is it the age difference that bothers you? Or, the fact the girl is a minor. - My Mrs is nearly 20 years younger than me, but she is not a teenager either.

pamelot - exercising her right granted in the second amendment to The Constitution, contained in The Bill of Rights, that gives its citizenry the right to bear arms.
And, in the fine print it reads: You also have the right to blow the head off an intruder.

YongYang - I regularly see old guys drink driving. I've even seen them sitting in their cars at a combini chugging down a chu-hi before they drive off. It seems, in this case, the young people of Japan are more responsible than the older ones. However, I do agree with your sentiment of punishment. If you kill someone while driving drunk in Australia the charge is manslaughter and carries up to a 20 year sentence, plus the driving infringements.

Yeah, I agree there should be some reflection of the the events of this year, but the number of people killed by the tsunami is only 2/3 of the amount of people that kill themselves in Japan every year. That is something to not reflect on.
And, December 21, 2012 will be the end of the world. So, if there is anything you really need to do you should do it soon! :P

It's odd that in these threads and the article SS are referred to as activists and environmental terrorists, yet in international newspapers they are referred to as whale crusaders.
Are you serious? Or, is this just a rhetorical question?
