This guy may well be guilty. But we all would like to see him found guilty with the correct court procedure.

That's exactly the issue here and I would go further and say that I would like to see the human rights of the accused (presumption of innocence, no 26-day police internment or trial by media) protected during the process of criminal investigation and judical deliberation.

This country has the death penalty......

I agree with NORTH. This stinks of a set up.

I agree that there is a lot wrong with the Japanese judicial system, the media and the police, but the guy did stand up in court and say from his own mouth that he hadn't intended to kill the girl but.....

    right Dogdog?

Nope, this has got nothing to do with race. Japanese or non-Japanese, the cases of trial by TV in this country are frightening, Before the defendent - note that word defendent - even takes a step into a court he/she has been found guilty by the media and the hearsay of the police who leak to them what the defendent has or has not said.

The court case then proceeds and the police offer the most flimsy of circumstansial evidence but hey why do they have to break a sweat, the accussed's guilt has already been decided on the 'Wide' show.

Hayashi and the fairground poisoning, and the original suspect in the Matsumoto sarin gassing are just a couple of cases of indegenes being tried by TV that come to the top of my mind.

Stop seeing race in every human action that happens in this country, you'll be a lot happier.

It was widely reported in the news at the time.

Yep, say no more, trial by media.

The guy told the police that he has the devil inside him who sometimes takes control of him.

Could you name your source for this claim, please?

I don't understand why a 54 year old and 21 year old are paired together???? Can someone explain it to me?

Try to understand the role of the media in Japan. It's there, among other things, to broadcast the socialist dream of possibility for all.

The socialist dream for the young and ambitious Japanese = 'If that talento can make it with their zero abilities, there's a chance for me'

The socialist dream for the tired unhappy salary drone = 'If that oyaji can make it with that young cutie, there's a chance for me'

You're obviously too lazy to go and do the most basic research.

War was declared on Germany December 11, 1941, and war was also declared on Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Romania June 5, 1942. Maybe yur memory needs to be recalibrated a little bit. You're welcome for the information.

Go read a basic history book and find out who declared war on who

Miltarily laziness on the US' part. The Japanese had carried out a similar surprise attack on the Russian pacific fleet at Port Arthur in 1905. The only difference was that battleships were used instead of the then non-existent aircraft carriers.

Americans make me laugh with their historical immaturity and double standards. When did they officially last declare war on someone, before taking military action? If my memory serves me right, it was in 1917.

    Americans.....

My main point here is that you can spin the news anyway you want, Mr.Hilton, but the reality is that Japan's lost decade could very well be the lesson that keeps the entire world from having a lost decade of its own.

The Japanese model is completely different from the Anglo-Saxon model. The Japanese economy is burdened with over saving by the Japanese population and a populace on the whole who have second class living standards. Booting up the economy was tried thru encouraging capital, rather than consummer spending, with the hope that liquidity would eventually trickle down to the Japanese man on the street. Obviously it failed because the final part of the plan never saw the day of light with Koizumi's economic reforms penalizing, rather than enriching, the Japanese man on the street.

The present global economic crises is that the credit line at the top has cramped up and the consummer has no opportunity for credit, not that the consummer is hoarding money that might otherwise be used to stimulate the economy.

The present fiscal remedies being used to remedy the present crises make countries like Japan and Germany the problem, rather than a model to follow. A lot of the fiscal loosening being carried out in Europe and the USA, will end up placing more money in the savings accounts of Japanese banks, where they will stagnate, thru imports of Japanese, Chinese, Korean and German products.

The lesson of the Japanese model is that the Japanese, 15 years on, have not realized that it was a model that has failed them and if the world economies were to carry out a likewise policy, it would condemn the world to a 1929 type depression for a long time.

and earn a god damn crap fo that

Being friendly with a few guys who whale from the Chiba coast and over the years having quaffed a few beers with them over that time, I can assure you that the whalers are on good salaries with all their allowances and bonuses. As a couple of them have said, they do it for the money and if the money wasn't good, the whaling boats would be staffed at the non-officer levels with Indonesians and sailors from the Philippines; like the rest of the Japanese merchant navy.

I'm sure that Japan doensn't like being treated the same way Japan treats the rest of the world.

Why should they? they are perfect in thought, act and intent...........

    He is half white.

He might well be, but the only time the real Obama is gonna look that white is at his own wake.

The picture conforms to the Japanese racist perspective of the world pecking order. Whites, followed by the Japanese, followed by Asians and with black people of any nationality at the bottom.

I find it quite offensive, just like Japanese might find pictures of their own heroes touched up with a good coloring of luminous yellow.

    When will they learn?

31, and going on 18. Doesn't turn me on

Really says it all. The only bigger turn off is 20 and going on 12. I'm sure JT in the name of fairness will put up a picture of this other version of Japanese womenhood tomorrow.

Can a 16 year old girl really have the strength to strike out grown men?

Looking at a picture of her and looking at the metrosexuals who play pro baseball in Japan, Darvish for example, she'll have no problem.

The manga mentality, immediate stimulus with the minimal of intellectual effort, pervades all aspects of modern Japanese media. From the early TV shows which tell you what the morning papers say before you've read them to the ham acting dramas in the evening, which lay before you all the emotions and reactions of the participants, with the smallest effort on the viewers' part.

Is manga bad for you? For an adult I say yes. For a child, I say depends.

The state of immaturity is a child's natural mental state. The path to adulthood includes a path to maturity. 'Immaturity is the inability to use one's understanding without direction from another' (Kant). Manga, among other things, including the Japanese education system, is one of the biggest hurdles to the attainment of this mental maturity. Before someone jumps in with an anti Japanese claim, yes a large part of any country's population never attain this mature mental state, but the political elites of a supposedly developed state????

because any Japanese motorist would pick up a hitckhiking gaijin... laughable at best..

Try it, before you slander it. I've never had any problems hitching in Japan. As a matter of fact being a gaijin has probably got me more and better lifts than a native might get.

However I would like to add that after hitching all over the world in my youth, human kindness to a non-threatening stranger is a universal.

How many variants of 'Old McDonald had a farm' can you sing, which is what all his songs sound like? The guy is musically totally talent less.

Like most NHK programs concerned with teaching or presenting English to their viewers, the hidden agenda is puzzle them with quotations that bear no resemblance to reality or graded structure.

She isn't going to get far in the international film scene without English. A really missed opportunity on her part.

As for the domestic market she just isn't the type of woman that they are looking for. She can actually act, which is a definite 'no no' for the warped everyman socialist mentality prevalent here (if she can do it with her lack of talent, so can I) and she doesn't have that pre pubescent cutie look which is all the rage in Japan.
