I genuinely hope Beijing pulls off a great Olympics. But most of the problems we're now seeing on the eve of the games (heavy pollution, over-politicization, media censorship, muted supporting, etc) were well known long before the Chinese were ever dubiously awarded them. If the games are a failure in any sense, blame the IOC.
