VOR - lets us all adjust our moral compass to accommodate a father's desire for retribution. Why on earth would I want to watch the murderer of my daughter put to death. I am sure if he had stayed home the execution would have still gone ahead. I can't help but to think there is something unusual about that desire. To refuse to watch it would have brought more dignity to himself and his daughters' legacy. Even the Japanese with its sad, pathetic history of executions conducts it in private.

This notion of closure is an Americanism. The idea that one feels better because the convicted has been executed is patently stupid. If they want to deal with their grief then they should seek help from a psychologist. To advocate death for those convicted of a capitol crime is sociopathic

I have been away from my computer for a few days but admittedly have been watching a lot of the Fox News broadcast. It is just amazing that nowhere in the news on the Fox network has this story appeared. Talk about bias and narrow, sure "they must really be looking out for us" as their motto goes

Sarge- it is only a figure of speech, and you have got get over this obsession with military service and its qualification to be commander and chief. Some of America's greatest presidents have never been near a bunker.

NAJEE ALI: An open letter to Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. July 10, 2008 *Rev Jackson, your vulgar tirade caught on tape by Fox News where you said you wanted to cut Barack Obama's nuts off and accusing him of talking down to Black folks by giving moral lectures at churches is the last straw for me and a growing number of African Americans who are outraged at your comments. There are many Blacks across the nation, myself included, who are appreciative for the work and contributions you have made in your civil rights career. But at this point, you're hurting Black America and Obama. In September 2007 it was clear that you were frustrated by Obama, when you stated in an interview in South Carolina that Obama needs to stop acting white, because you felt he was not engaged in the Jena 6 movement enough to your liking. Rev Jackson your continued verbal attacks on Obama are unwarranted it's as if you're jealous that Obama has eclipsed you and both your campaigns for the Democratic nomination by actually preparing to win it as the 2008 presumptive nominee. Jesse Jackson & Barack Obama For years you have been criticized as an ambulance chaser and opportunist. Many of Dr. King's insiders and aides say that King did not trust you. 40 years ago in Memphis as King lay dying from an assassin's bullet your first thought and action was to smear your shirt with Dr. King's blood. You then proceeded to appear in Chicago the next day on several news programs wearing the same shirt you deliberately smeared with his blood as if you were the heir of King's movement. Obama's recent comments about Black fathers not abandoning their children and accepting moral responsibility in our lives is a lesson you apparently needed to learn when you were younger. If you had, it may not have caused you to cheat on your wife and father a child out of wedlock with a former staffer. Maybe that's what really bothered you about Obama's message to the church that Black fathers should be responsible for their children; you certainly haven't been.

Yes right, Dubai is not the place to do anything. I suspect that the stories of nudity and public affection have been blown out of all proportions. We are talking about a society with very strict draconian rules targeting women while men are allowed to act with impunity in terms of their dress and just general attitude to women. The notion that while in Rome do as the Romans do contradicts the long standing view that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. This is a society that cuts people's harm off as a means of social justice and places an unfair burden on women to be the flag bearer of their pathetic standards.
Dubai is a society that seeks to operate in the 21st century by applying 14th century standards to its domestic policies. I categorically reject their pent up ideas about sex and the place of women in society, and these strict useless laws is one way of continuing to advance these notions.

They just can't have it both ways in Dubai, they want western technology and know how but is offended by westerners kissing in public. I am so glad that these pent up, dark ages cultures don't run the world.

Imagine after abusing children on the scale that they have, yet they still expect to be taken seriously. Imagine the crimes they committed against the Aborigines, and yet they hope to smooth it out with some pathetic apology that has no ongoing structure for compensation or future prevention. The Pope should just get lost!

JeromeInJapan- I agree with you, I am 6ft 3inches and I hardly meet any African that is as large as I am. This idea that they are disproportionately larger that others is a fantasy put out there by those who wish to label the Africans as different. A lot of them tend to have more money that brains, and the notion that power is a corruptive force is perhaps more obvious in Africa because of widespread poverty and fiscal mismanagement. But that does not detract from the fact that they are essentially like the rest of us

Here we go again, the big black square not being able to fit firmly into the round hole they have provided. They have a right to seek alternative accommodation if what they had was not suitable. This notion that Africans should be happy with anything because they are largely under develop is a whole sale lift from the book of colonial teachings. The Japanese has bought into that attitude and it is evident in the kind of imagery we see in Japan that has anything to do with Africans. There are lots of things I like about Japanese culture but sleeping on the floor is not one of them. It is at first uncomfortable and certainly is requiring getting use to. The Africans seemed to have been very tolerant for enduring it for a few days.
