I think people will hesitate to donate to Burma because they are not sure that the aid will get where it's going. I don't think China's stance on Tibet will get in the way of donations, as China is in fact using donations of time, money, and material to help the victims.
Posted in: Do you think reports of the Myanmar junta hoarding cyclone relief aid and China's stance on Tibet will make people think twice about making donations to disaster relief in those two countries?

Many foreign men have crossed the ocean to be away from foreign women, so I suppose they're lurking somewhere out of sight.

Challenge is a verb and requires a human object in most versions of English. "I challenged JoeBob to a game of checkers." It is often used with non-human objects in Japan, though, and is sometimes used without an object in cases other than those flammenwerfer mentioned.
My question is if you challenge the Tone River and you lose, are you toast, or are you just wet?

I don't care for McCain, but if you watch the clip, at least the clip in question, he is talking about occupation, not war. His platform is so crazy in so many other respects that I can't understand why anyone wastes time criticizing what he DIDN'T say, and making a false point the center of an ad. There are plenty of true things to criticize.

The escalating violent protests will eventually put a stop to the Olympics, and won't help Tibetans a bit. Certainly the Chinese government will suffer economically, but the world will have lost a traditional worldwide event with a lot of history behind it.

My impression is that the quality of parenting in general is going down. I'm not sure that this phenomenon is confined to Japan. Lately, though, it does seem that the papers in Japan have been full of accidents involving children which, at least from the details given, should have been preventable.

Well, I really think Carter has been a much more effective ex-president than he was a president, and hope he can do some good in the Middle East.
Still, skipthesong is correct that Carter has been accused of Anti-Semitism in the past, rightly or wrongly, on more than one occasion. If anyone is interested, here is an old article from the Jerusalem Post, which concludes that he is not an anti-Semite. It doesn't offer a very positive view of him, however. http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull&cid=1164881982714
Personally, I wish Carter and his peace mission well, but there is some history there that might continue to make Israel have doubts about him. Knowing the history might help people understand the distrust that is being expressed.
