The airlines should decide how much a flight including baggage, good food, and good service costs, and charge that amount. Anything else is going to make people feel ripped off.

Well, this guy isn't a shoe bomber...maybe he's a shoe lobber. (If so, could he be held for lobbery?)

In any case, throwing anything at another country's leader is and should be illegal in every country, no matter how annoyed you are at a particular leader. Otherwise all leaders everywhere will need to speak from behind garbage screens. It's sort of a mark of civilization that you show respect to the leaders of other countries, even those you disagree with.

Still, as Bush said,(approximately) "He wanted to get on TV, and he did." Our lobber isn't a terrorist. It's a misdemeanor, or its equivalent, and he should be punished for that, not for anything greater than that. I would scratch him off the invited guest list for next time, I think.

When you go to the fancy department stores, I suppose the helpful elevator operators call out, "Fifth floor! Toys, Women's Underwear, Men's Bras, Household appliances!" I don't know if I can get used to this....

There are lots of circumstances that justify it, but almost all those circumstances could be avoided if you have good intelligence, a good economy, and good diplomats. If you reach a stage where war is the only choice, it's 9 times out of 10 because someone is doing a poor job at nipping a problem in the bud.

Pretty soon, though, nukes, chemical weapons, and biological weapons will become so well-distributed throughout the world that we're going to have to get better at being peaceful or die as a civilization.

These folks believe in flying reindeers, fat men who see you when you're sleeping going down chimneys, unpaid elves that make toys, etc. When these people greet you, however they greet you, you'd better smile and then run away quickly. They're dangerous.

Christmas trees are a pagan custom, but I think calling them Hannukah bushes is a little silly. Still, if you know someone is Christian, and insist on wishing them a Happy Hannukah, it shows that you didn't really pay enough attention to their beliefs to greet them accurately. Happy Holidays is okay if you are too lazy to find out what holiday they celebrate. And then, it's rather rude to refer to Christmas as the Christian Hannukah. It's really quite a different holiday. Also, I think giant menorahs in the middle of city squares might also be a bit insensitive to the feelings of people who are of other faiths. We need to recognize diversity, and we shouldn't assume everyone is Jewish.

My view is irrelevant, I'm afraid. The US government will bail out the Big 3. The only question is whether the money will come from the amount set aside for another purpose, or whether it will have a different source.

I could support a temporary loan that would be repaid, provided there were strict controls over how the money was used, but in the case of GM, they have not listened to the lessons of the past about producing cars that get good mileage, and had very few options available when the oil prices rose.

In the middle of a recession, even though oil prices have retreated somewhat, that is exactly the kind of car consumers want, so GM's inventory is not easily saleable, in my opinion, unless they cut prices by a huge amount.

Ford, and possibly Chysler, is in a bit better shape, I think, and their ills are more easily addressed. Still, the government will bail out all three makers because they are looking at the effect of that many people, all the retirees living on a pension, and the people from all their suppliers, going on unemployment, and it doesn't look good. In addition, there would be a ripple effect on everyone's retirement plan of having all those companies and their supply companies going out of business.

It's going to happen, even after the government reads these comments on Japan Today.

Nice that confidential and free testing is now available. Since most people in Japan haven't gotten tested, it's hard to know how bad the problem really is, and this may be the only way to come to grips with the problem, late though it may be. The reality will no doubt be a shock to many.

That brought his mother, the camouflage-clad Rachel Smith, to Bob Moates Sports Shop on Thursday, where she was picking out that special 20-gauge shotgun—one of at least five weapons she plans to buy before Obama takes office in January.

His mother runs around in camouflage wear in a sports shop? I hope the salepeople were able to see her okay... Some people think if the have more guns, they are safer...seems a bit insane to me, but whatever..maybe it will boost the economy.

Judging by the vote, there are a lot of people who think Democrat policies are not so bad, and that previous policies have been disastrous. In any case, we clearly have some hard economic times ahead of us before Obama even before takes power, and the US economy will drag down Japan's economy in the meantime. This will be a worldwide economic recession or a depression. Sorry to hear your cooperative spirit is dead.

I don't believe people should falsely accuse people of groping, but I think there's a whole lot of groping going on that is for real. Hitting someone upside the head when it happens is more effective than any legal option, in my opinion, though some method of dealing with this legally is needed. As people say, though, evidence or witnesses should be required.

I don't think Japan really wants more foreign tourists...just more Japanese tourists. I'm not saying they don't want any foreigners, just that the number there are now is sufficient.

Well, having the US going into a deep recession or depression isn't good for Japan, so let's hope Obama can help turn that around. It will be a while before he can really act, though, and even when he can act as president, it will be some time before the plunging markets, closing factories, etc. does anything but go down. It will take Democrats and Republicans working together, I'm afraid...something we don't see enough of...

Should sex education be taught in schools?

Please no! There would be tests...lots of tests...multiple choice tests, diagram tests, fill in the blank tests. If it is taught in the same way that English is, nobody would ever have sex again.

I haven't been too impressed with Halloween as a holiday for adults... it has spoiled the atmosphere for Halloween as a children's holiday, as there are just too many crazy adults around.
